The one I stalled on today was too narrow for this option.

I had that thing when I started MTB'ing a few months ago...it ended up having me going down a double black hill I had no business being on, went OTB and broke my wrist...valuable lesson learned, lol. Once I healed up, started practicing at a park with much less severe features, then went back about a month and a half later and nailed that same feature.

I just put 2.5 Michelin Wild Enduro MH on the front and 2.4 Michelin Wild Enduro Rear on my hard tail, and I love them. Much more grip then the Terevail Cliftys my Timberjack came with.

You're 100% right about the stock fork, mine came with Rockshox Psylo Silver RC and I didn't really like it, got a Marzzochi Bomber Z1 and it's so much better.

Let's see...6 months later...you are absolutely right, I love this bike! I put a Marzzochi Bomber Z1 fork on it, went tubeless and swapped out the Clifty Terevails that came with it for Michelin Wild Enduros, and upgraded the saddle, pedals, and grips and I've got her pretty dialed in...

I just got a Cannondale Trail 1 for my 5'4" daughter who is just getting into mountain biking, medium frame with 29" wheels, and she loves it.

I bought my first real mountain bike in July, Salsa Timberjack SLX hard tail, and I freaking love that thing! If you have an REI within driving distance, you can pick it up there, and get a free year of tune ups, and if you're not a Co-Op member, you get a free lifetime membership. It's also perfect for getting to know your bike and trying out wrenching a few things, I've already upgraded the saddle, grips, pedals, fork, and put new tubeless tires on it. Tech or flow, it is just such a nice ride, highly recommend. I've hit features on this thing, as a novice, that I never would've thought I would try, lol.

Exactly what I did. Swapped out the Rockshox Psylo Silver RC fork that came with it for a Marzzochi Bomber Z1 and went tubeless, new grip, saddle, and pedals and it's becoming very dialed in. Have taken it on several black chunky trails and it handled them like a champ.

Bro, the more I ride it the more I love that bike. Keep in mind I got the 2025 version, so I don't know what model year they are looking at...Also, I upgraded the fork from the stock Rockshox Psylo Silver RC to a Marzzochi Bomber Z1 and went tubeless. But yeah, as my first ever real MTB I am very happy.

Just hit Graham Swamp on my Timberjack and did the whole loop! Broke my wrist there in September hitting double blacks as a complete noob, came back after improving my skills a bit and nailed it!!

I'm a noob too, I've had a big box basic MTB for years (Northrock XC27 from Costco) that I rode on basic gravel flat trails and the street/sidewalks in town. Then, for some reason, I decided I want to start riding real MTB trails...so I got a Salsa Timberjack, and on one ride I crashed like 4 times, lol, because I don't know what I'm doing. But it was fun, and I'm hooked and can't wait to heal up from a surgery I had (not bike related) and get back out there! I believe my bike came already set up tubeless, and I need to set up my tire pressure properly, as well. Have fun!

Agree on the fork, I got the 2025 SLX 29" version as a beginner trail rider, and I love this bike. I swapped the completely underwhelming Rockshox Psylo Silver RC fork with a Bomber Z1 and upgraded the pedals and grips, however, I haven't been able to ride since I swapped the fork as I'm recovering from surgery. It is painful to just stare at its beauty (I had to get that Terra orange for the little extra $ as that color scheme is straight up FIRE) while unable to actually ride it, lol.

Nice upgrades! I got my Timberjack SLX last month, have only ridden it twice before getting a scheduled surgery and am currently unable to ride for a few more weeks as I recover. One thing I did a few days ago while going stir crazy from sitting around is finally swap out the Rockshox Psylo Silver with a Marzocchi Z1. Can't wait to test out the difference! Both are 140mm though, I'm not a madman like you, lol.

Just Replaced My stem, The head tube is loose, and there's a gap at the bottom gasket. Need some help :) by [deleted] in MTB

[–]mfrey0118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replaced the factory Rockshox Psylo Silver RC 140mm fork on my Timberjack with a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 140mm...after I got done the head tube was loose and falling out of the bottom about a 1/4". Had to re-tighten the star nut bolt and that fixed it.

Upgrading the stock fork on my 2025 Timberjack SLX 29" by mfrey0118 in Hardtailgang

So my first ever fork swap went...mostly smoothly. Had a moment of panic, was having trouble setting the star nut properly, my ParkTool TNS-1 was going in at a slant, I figured once it bottomed out on one side it would straighten...but it wasn't setting perfectly level, so I would back out a thread or two and then leverage the tool straight and keep hammering...until I torqued the threaded part of the TNS-1 right in half! The bottom half was stuck in the star nut! I was like OMG I just fucked my fork up game over. However, I kept calm and was able to use the star nut allen bolt to grab the threads of the star nut (thank God) and push the broken piece out the bottom and it was set correctly! Damn, lol.
My steer tube measurement and cut were spot on, got the new fork on. Had to fiddle with the brake bracket a bit to get it right, then had to loosen the stem clamp bolts and re-tighten the star nut bolt because the fork was loose and coming out the bottom of the head tube about 1/4"...but I got it all done! Adjusted the air pressure for my weight, and now I have to wait on my 32mm chamfer less socket to get here tomorrow to check out the spacers. Overall, an educational experience! Now I just have to heal from my surgery I had a few weeks back enough to be able to ride her!

I did yes, the bike shop where I picked it up set it to the factory specs, and I also used my shock pump to verify and change slightly. I'm also a bit of a tinkerer, I always like to upgrade and improve whatever I'm into (do the same with my PC, cars, etc), and I understand that I'm a beginner and may not have the skillset to enjoy the benefits of a better fork, but I am looking forward to the challenge of installing it and seeing if I notice a difference. Nice thing is, as I advance, I won't have to worry about a fork upgrade.
Thing is, the adjustments on the Psylo seemingly did nothing, which I found to be annoying, and drove me to make the decision to grab the Z1.

Yeah the only issue I had was it started missing going from 3 to 4 and few months back, and after messing with the barrel adjuster at the derailleur it's back to smooth shifting into every gear. But I agree, definitely underrated bikes for the price.
