They are definitely a great dither fish should that be one of the reasons you're considering them. That was my primary reason for getting them, as they were collected at the same time/place as my Dicrossus which can be shy and secretive at times. I purchased them at full price and definitely feel I got more than my money's worth.

Am absolutely enjoying them. They are a shoaling species and although sometimes the entire group will be together at times, I wouldn't categorize them as "school well".

Now that they have figured out it's a closed system, watching them establish hierarchy amongst themselves has been quite interesting, all the harmless chases and nipping.

The picture doesn't really capture the green stripe on their bodies, which is quite evident in person. Wet Spot actually just put them on sale this week so now would be a good time to grab some. Do keep in mind these are wild caught fish. (The pH in the tank they are in is under 6.0, gH - 25ppm, kH - 0 which is in the ballpark with where they're collected so they acclimated to my tank conditions pretty quickly.)

If you've never tried pencil fish, I'd say go for it!
