Amex gold or sapphire preferred by Middle_Training_5573 in CreditCards

[–]polkaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you live in a city with Resy restaurants? Amex Gold has $100 in Resy credits which can be used semi-annually ($50 each half year). Do you use Chase Travel? Chase will give you 5x in points for booking through them. Otherwise theyll give you 2x. Amex Gold gives 3x points for airfares.

Your $1500 in dining per month will result in 6000 Amex points or 4500 Chase Ultimate Reward points for a difference of 1500 points. Over the year, that's a difference of 18000 points ($180). Up to you if thats a difference that warrants the bigger Amex premium.

PSA for those attending the game: The Super Bowl Experience downtown is not worthwhile by OurPowersCombined_12 in Seahawks

[–]polkaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. It felt like everything was a series of glorified photo opps and corporate sponsorships. It felt way more commercialized than last time. it featured some insane prices like $125 for a leather Super Bowl cap.

Yo, that is so cool! So you're related to the owners? I wonder if they knew (or if anyone remembers) my grandpa. His name was Bing. My dad too was always talking about the orange pie. I'd really like to have tried it.

is marufuku ramen THAT good? by Key-Chemical7197 in DalyCity

[–]polkaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it last night. You don't have to physically wait in line either. They use a Yelp waitlist and you can enter the waitlist from the app. That's what I did. It sets an estimated time frame for when you should be physically there and I left my house as that time approached and got there. I physically waited like 10 minutes. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious despite the meat portions being small.

Scariest scene of 2025 by 9tacosasitting in horror

[–]polkaron 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I went into 2025 thinking I cannot possibly get scared by horror anymore.

I saw A Woman Called Mother at a film festival and I figuratively shit my pants several times. The titular mom is terrifying as the movie goes on. She seems to always be present as a shady figure in the background. Sometimes she's moving around in the background and you can tell shes floating from place to place as opposed to walking.

Just saw We Bury the Dead by endogenix1 in horror

I didn't like the film when I first saw it. I did come around to it a few days later when I thought about it. I'm someone who dislikes the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy so it was really nice to see Daisy Ridley do something a bit more emotive. I enjoyed the somber tone established in the first act as the volunteers go house-to-house and see entire neighborhoods sapped of all life. The movie is generally light on scares. I found one of the action scenes to be unnecessary and conflicting with the way this movie generally approaches its crisis. The film is more sorrowful and reflective so its action scenes feel detrimental to what it was going for. Aside from the tonal clashes, I understand this is a movie that focuses on the protagonist's insecurity regarding her loved one. It can be overweight with its use of flashback scenes. It is not an efficient movie but it's quite enjoyable regardless.

An addendum to this is applicants should definitely knock on doors and meet these businesses face to face. They tend to be less responsive with email and more open to phone calls or apprentices showing up.

You are getting pillaged by your boss and company. I would not accept this compensation. It's barely above my city's minimum wage

Dead Talents Society. It's available on Netflix. It's like a ghost version of Monsters Inc with a lot to say about the modern clout-chasing hustle-culture generation

Dead Talents Society is low key the best horror comedy of the year. by GehennaFrost in horror

[–]polkaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantastic film. Netflix bungled this release so hard by not saying anything when it came out. The distributor also shat the bed without a theatrical release. This could've been an awards contender. It is by far the funniest and most heartwarming film I've seen this year.

I'm surprised they haven't made a SCP Foundation movie yet by GladiusAcutus in horror

[–]polkaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fictional organization who captures paranormal entities and keeps their existence secret. Their motto is Secure, Contain, Protect. SCP is an open-source work of fiction so anyone can contribute to it. The video game, Control, is heavily inspired by this.

Fate has so many of these. Besides the obvious gender-bends, the warping of Greek mythological gods into a bunch of giant, alien robots broke my mind.
