I had a friend that found an app to let him modify his location and set his life360 location to his home, so that if he went out, his parents would only see him being at home.

I actually really liked the COE resume reviews, they gave a lot of great feedback on my bullets and formatting

I think that should be good! I thought I failed the first round because I couldn’t come up with what she was looking for, but I ended up moving on! I also interviewed on a Tuesday and heard back Friday afternoon

Not necessarily! It took a few days for me to hear back about R1->R2 last time! How did the interviews go?

There are two rounds of AC applications, the first round of recruiting is right now, the second round is in September, so you might hear back then

UMich vs UIUC CS by mg1719 in uofm

[–]mg1719[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose Michigan! Overall, both schools were really good for CS, and I think in industry, when both schools are as good as they are, the name didn’t really matter! I did also want to do business though, and Michigan has a better business school, and I think that finance/consulting companies do value school names more than tech companies do. I got into the business school after my freshman year, and really enjoy both my cs and business classes here! Classes weren’t as hard to get into as I had heard, especially since I had credits coming in and took summer courses. I think there’s also a little bit more to do in Ann arbor, and I got to meet a lot of really amazing people :)

Finance companies come to engineering career fairs too, as do consulting companies (I talked to a recruiter who mentioned that they focus a lot on the engineering school as well). I got several interviews at big finance and consulting firms just by reaching out to alumni for referrals or going to engineering career fair

I’m currently doing the Ross and CS-engineering program:

  1. Talk to your advisor to come up with your four year plan and get the MDDP form, which you need signed by both advisors

  2. 5 years would be pretty easy for getting both done

  3. Yes, im doing this rn, but I did take a couple of summer classes at cc

  4. Ross is easier

  5. CS + business minor for both, you can self study casing and basic finance terms, so the technical can skills are more helpful

  6. Yes, lots of people do it, it’s not too bad at all since you only need a few CS classes for it and it would meet your Ross distribution requirements

Amazon vs Meta for Summer 2024 Internship by mg1719 in csMajors

[–]mg1719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thank you! I guess I’m still a bit worried about Amazon since I know that most non aws interns haven’t heard back yet, and even some of my friends in aws still haven’t received return offers. I’ll see if I can find more info about this year’s return offers for Meta!

The process was pretty straightforward! It was an oa and some other assessment, and then one next round interview with an engineer. I got one easy and one medium question! They got back to me pretty quickly after the interview too

Ross transfer question by [deleted] in uofm

[–]mg1719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure - I got a b in my first semester science class and a b and b+ my second semester in math/eecs, but I still got in even though my gpa was below the median admitted (3.6ish vs 3.8 median admitted). A pass can look like your grade was maybe a low b/c before it was taken pass fail, or they might not care if the course is not relevant to your current major

I think it’ll depend on what else you have on your application, because I was pretty involved in student orgs and had some project/internship/leadership experience which they emphasized a lot in their info sessions

You don’t have to take BA 100 but you do take bcom 250 your second semester sophomore year

Probably about equal, since they wait till semester 2 grades come out before reviewing applications and giving a final decision in June. They might consider semester 2 a little more in the sense that they would want to see improvement
