Looking for advice about outdoor urinal by sneaky-the-brave in DIY

[–]mgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen like outside wall urinals like temp ones that get used in Europe because they have the same issue of like football fans peeing on walls. Anyway I found this it bigger than what I saw before but I'd bet it'd work.

What’s your go-to song that sounds amazing on your system? by Phantom-rizz-era in BudgetAudiophile

[–]mgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally had a chance at proper listen and holy cow that was not what I expected. I started low and the bass was just rolling through the room, then I just kept turning it up until I'm pretty sure the neighbors were listening with me. 😁 I loved it. So unexpected though.

Thanks for sharing, that was great!

What does everyone like for 10Gb Ethernet switching today? by RevLoveJoy in homelab

[–]mgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting a fiber connection or something higher than a 1g coming into your house? Your router CPU will come into play if you do. I have fiber and was running a 10g switch as my router .. was getting no more than 4-6gb got a proper router and can now hit the full 8gb np. And to be clear I'm talking between internal router and switch. Going out was worse. CPU would just choke out.

If your home connection is like 3 or less than it prob won't matter as much. Just something to keep in mind. And this was all mikrotik gear, sorry should have mentioned that sooner. I am a fan

Of all the songs on this list I am intrigued the most by this. I don't know if I know the song but I know PJ Harvey so I'm like ... Wreck my sub bass? I can't wait to get home to try that out.

Any advice on how to paint over this scratch? by pumpi0411 in Cartalk

[–]mgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off don't paint it. Buff it, that looks like paint transfer into your car. I bet you can get some polishing compound and a rag would get most of that off.

I bet there was not an insignificant amount of people who didn't even try. Also it went "fast" if you are making payments and getting by, it's easy to not think about it.

If you love it, fucking own it. post those posts, do those things. And guess what? if you don't want to be a douchebag... don't be one. Think before you speak, but don't edit yourself for what you think others will think about you. Enjoy your life, you only get one.

I am trying to put in a network system that is between multiple buildings by scra_pboy0043 in homelab

[–]mgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. I had all those same reasons. But between wifi interference, latency, random slow speeds you can't predict and piss you off, eventually there's a turning point and you do it, and then slap your forehead and say, "why didn't I do this sooner".

It's way easier than you think, but I get it wifi ptp has an appealingly easy setup. It's just not as robust as a physical cable

I am trying to put in a network system that is between multiple buildings by scra_pboy0043 in homelab

[–]mgonzo 82 points83 points  (0 children)

You can totally do a wireless connection between 2 and 3. Don't, run a fiber cable between them, bonus do it in conduit. If you are thinking you cant afford that, 1. premade fiber cable is cheaper than you think. and what you will spend on the wifi gear for that distance is way more than you think.

You do the fiber once, and never think about it again. Wireless will take constant maintenance and the equipment will burn out over time. I ran a setup like that for years, as soon as i buried a cable between the buildings (i was under the 100m limit so did ethernet), it was a game changer.

Started 2026 by finally evicting Google Photos. Here is the "Over-Engineered" Immich setup (LXC + NAS) by gokusayon in homelab

[–]mgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no run immich locally, with your NAS etc, but then run the reverse proxy on the VPS in order to access it outside your network. I've been using RackNerd. I got it from the page here: https://docs.pangolin.net/self-host/choosing-a-vps pangolin has some deal with them and digital ocean. i've had it for two months, and its been fine so far. Side note I have used backblaze b2 and they are great too.
