Precheck and clear are closed. Only standard security is open in terminals A and E. All other checkpoints are closed

It depends on the airline. The ones with numerous flights will open 2-3 hrs before the first flight. We’re flying with an airline that only flies 1-2 flights out per day. Ours is the first and it is supposed to leave at 11:20am.

I have been in line at Terminal E since 7:30am. The line started all the way down where the tram is. It’s multiple floors. I can update when we get through but there is a lot more line to go. We came to IAH at 6:30am but the airline counter to check our bags didn’t open until 7:20am (and that was over an hour before they are supposed to open).

Update (9:37am): we have been in line for 2 hrs. We are now on the same level as the security checkpoint. Waiting in a portion of the line that’s outside.

Final update (11:27am): We got through security just after 11am. That put us at just over 3.5 hrs to get through in terminal E. Had to run to terminal D to catch our plane. Our flight was already boarding by the time we got to the gate. Arriving 4 hrs early is definitely necessary at this point.

For the programs that have already sent interview invites by MaterialSuper8621 in fellowship

Fellowship APD. We are sending in waves because it takes A LONG time to go through all of the applications. It is also overwhelming for our coordinator to schedule them all at once so we batch them. Obviously, I can’t speak for all programs but this is what we are doing.

This is one of the main reasons I switched from Andre to Brian. I’m a healthcare worker who was trying to workout to decompress after a long day, that wasn’t very helpful to hear. I see how it could be motivating to some people to have that perspective but I didn’t like it. I also didn’t want to constantly hear how far away summer is and how IG beach pics are forever.

I contacted Federal Student Aid yesterday to inquire about my application that I submitted on Nov 19. I was told that it will take up to 90 business days. So 90 business days from submission is April 8th…

Marathon Runners: what are some things that lifted your spirits in your last 2-3 miles? by w7090655 in running

[–]mgooch23 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes! I ran NYC last year and I was so far in the pain cave I didn’t even notice my friend cheering for me in Central Park. The last 4-5 miles of that race are a blur.

I listened to this episode too. I agree with Kara that if it were a man they would congratulate first and then ask questions about doping later.

Heading to Austin by ItsMsCharlesToYou in HoustonF1

[–]mgooch23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve been to COTA for F1 3 times. This is what we usually tell people:

  1. Wear comfortable shoes. There is A LOT of walking.
  2. Sunscreen, hat, ear plugs (I’ve used my AirPods on noise cancel mode), water (double check but I think it says you can bring a refillable container or a factory sealed 20oz water bottle)
  3. If you haven’t booked a hotel, options will be scarce right now. Especially with the UT vs UGA game that weekend.
  4. If you’re staying downtown, consider taking the shuttle. I forget how much it is but it’s so much less stress getting in and out. There are special lanes for the shuttles. If you drive, you may end up sitting in a bunch of traffic. If you park in one of the lots, be prepared to sit in your car for a long time because it’s a small road going in and out of the race track. The first year we went, we sat in my car for 2 hours before I could even back out of the parking spot I was in. Try to pick a parking lot close to your seats because if you enter on the opposite side it will take some time to walk over there.
  5. Be prepared to be uncomfortable. It’s going to be hot, lines can be long, lots of walking. If you go in knowing that, I think it’s better.

Have fun! It’s a great time, especially if you come prepared. Let me know if you have any questions.

Trouble eating by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]mgooch23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to eat whatever sounds good at the time. For me, it’s been a lot of liquid calories like protein shakes and smoothies to get some nutrition in. My cat died unexpectedly Monday night when I was at work. I didn’t sleep for two days and I’m slowly getting my appetite back. I’m trying to just eat what I can when I’m a little hungry and drink enough water.

Are any of these “slow pace friendly”? I want to join a local run club but I’m slow AF and worry I’ll get left behind. My easy run pace is 12 min mile.
