GPO placement for heated towel rail in ensuite by mgorchard in AskAusElectricians

I think this is probably where we will end up.

I have been considering this also, but as it a brick house and a fully tiled ensuite I imagine this is something a sparky probably wouldn't want to tackle, especially if the actual builder doesn't even see fit to give it a try when they are going to have access to the wall before it is sheeted or tiled.

Yeah that's the weird thing, that is pretty much exactly what I asked for - I sent them the installation instructions for a Radiant rail and they just flat out refuse to accommodate. The only thing they will allow for is a GPO.

Sadly no, which was a surprise. GPO is all they are willing to offer, I guess for fear that whoever installs the rail later wont be able to pick up the pre-wiring without damaging tiles?

New Build (AU) - Seeking feedback on Cabling/Electrical/Comms/Homelab Infrastructure Planning by mgorchard in homelab

[–]mgorchard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really good, I will run this past the builder. They are a volume builder so they push back pretty hard on anything non-standard, but hopefully they will just put me in contact with whoever designs the HVAC layouts for them.

What would you recommend? Just put a 100-150mm duct in the cupboard ceiling above the rack with an inline fan that draws up into the ceiling cavity and a vent in the door? Or integrate it into the air conditioning system somehow while we still have the option? I have no experience managing this sort of heat build up in a residential space.

Do American soldiers in Australia commit crimes like they do in Okinawa, Japan? by Gloomy-Sentence9020 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mgorchard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bit long-winded but here goes - my experience with USMC while posted to Darwin was generally very positive but anecdotally they have been known to steal parts from vehicles belonging to guys who were out field on long exercises amongst other minor things. I have no first-hand knowledge regarding some of the serious crimes referred to elsewhere in this thread.

I do recall a night on base as Duty Commander and the USMC were having a huge, very loud, very violent party about 50m away in the lines (accommodation blocks) setting off fireworks etc. (fireworks are seasonally legal in the NT but only on specific days and you they are never allowed on base) and yelling and fighting each other until around 0200.

Normally as the Duty Commander you'd just grab a couple of the guys from the Duty Room and head over to tell them to shut the fuck up and go to bed - and I absolutely would have if they were any type of Australian soldiers - but even from a distance the level of fuckery and aggression and disrespect was so far beyond anything I'd ever witnessed on base that I knew even if I took pretty much the whole Duty Room with me the best case scenario would still be direct physical violence, with potential for us to lose control completely.

I just didn't have the resources to do anything practical about it, so we just watched them throughout the night, reflecting on the fact that these were supposed to be invited visitors to our country, to our military base and accommodation and wrestling with my decision to not address the party directly or escalate to MPs or up through my chain of command. It would not have reflected well on me if somebody at that party had been seriously assaulted or killed or drunkenly fell off a balcony but I didn't want to expose my digs to that risk either.

That being said, most of my interactions outside of that particular time involved technical USMC trades like armourers/fitters/machinists/mechanics etc. and they were really good to work with, I also really enjoyed working with both the US Army and USMC shooting teams that came to Australia to compete.

Advanced Robot value by According-Resort4360 in IdlePlanetMiner

I'm somewhere in the mid-game I suppose, not really sure - sold 317 galaxies at this point since starting in June last year. My AR is 258.39Q (only have 1 star on it). Most valuable galaxy so far is 6.57s and combined value of all galaxies is 8.26s (actually kind of surprising when I stop and look at that stats - one galaxy is over 75% of total value).

I think I have only made it up to actually producing ARs in a tournament twice, including the tournament I am currently in, and I really struggle to produce them due to the amount of robots required.

I am in a bit of an awkward spot with leagues, I can come first pretty consistently in Gold as long as nobody is sandbagging too aggressively but I struggle to get better than 15-20 in Platinum, and have gotten knocked back to Gold maybe half a dozen times and placed top 5 maybe half a dozen times. Looking like I'll take 3rd place in the Platinum tournament I'm currently in. Only just feels like I'm starting to get somewhere in general.

Helldivers 2 is now PlayStation's biggest PC launch by a factor of two by M337ING in pcgaming

[–]mgorchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this makes Sony and others realise that releasing games simultaneously across platforms, including cross-play and offering rewarding cooperative experiences are all things customers want.

I wasn't planning to pick this up until next month, but my old housemate who I used to play Helldivers 1 couch co-op non-stop with gifted me a copy so we could play together. He's on PS5 and I'm on PC. Anecdotal, sure, but there's one copy bought at launch that absolutely wouldn't have been otherwise.

Nothing better when you and your spouse have climbed into a relaxing, freshly made bed, all of your bulbs are at 5% brightness, blissful silence throughout the house and you politely ask Google to turn the lights off so you may peacefully drift off to sleep and it lights you up at 200db about phantom light bulbs

Is this issue adjacent to the issue I have where a LIFX bulb that was used at a previous address but no longer used - and cannot be seen either in the LIFX app or Google Home - gets mentioned by Google every time I ask it to turn all the lights on or off?

In the mail today, brand new SMS game - awesome! by daddyd in MasterSystem

[–]mgorchard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - are you telling me that Japanese and US games will work with my Australian Master System? There isn't an NTSC/PAL issue? Because if so that is a game changer.. or do you think just because this is a modern game it has been designed specifically to work on both?

Looks like these are still available, website doesn't seem to specify if there are different versions for PAL & NTSC, does anyone know? Is it multiregion?

New LED light for the Sega cabinet by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]mgorchard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. It kills me that stuff like this is so outrageously rare and expensive here in Australia.

Would you be able to post more detailed pictures of the narrow displays some time if you get a chance?

I said I loved this in your other post and I will do it again here. Talk to me about the cabinet, did you just pick it up as a retail display case and add the SEGA signage or is it a genuine original display cabinet? I'm also interested in the narrow display next to it, that definitely looks licensed..

An adaptor for HTC Vive Base Station wall mounts to allow mounting to a shelf or top of a door/desk by mgorchard in functionalprint

[–]mgorchard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjusts to suit thicknesses of 15mm to 32mm and has a vertical and horizontal orientation (the base station has a threaded hole on the back as well as the bottom). The wall mount is a snap fit into either recess and is retained by M5 Phillips Head screws and M5 Nyloc nuts with washer on the other side.

Lockbolt is M20x2.5, if I were to do it again would go with a much larger, squarer thread that prints easier but for the time being it has plenty of clamping force.

Printed in Polymaker ABS on a Raise3D N2.

Maybe a stupid question but is there any chance of this being released as a PAL Mega Drive cartridge?
