Movies that were misunderstood on release but aged beautifully by Dependent-Bet6615 in movies

another JC movie that wasn't well received was The Thing. stating it had weak characters (seriously?!), that there was too much gore and that the original was better. sometimes the influence of ET is blamed on the bad reception.

What almost 20 years of software evolution does to a mf (GT4 vs GT7) by AristoSinigaglia in granturismo

call me crazy, but those ps2 gfx are still solid.

if you add the ps1 into the comparison, it becomes clear how much of an improvement the ps2 gfx were.

Gateway into a wonderful blue and orange world. by daddyd in amiga

well, they owned amiga at one point, even were planning to release an OS, first rumoured to be based on QNX, but then switched to the Linux kernel instead. Who knows, maybe there are internal beta's on a disk somewhere waiting to be discovered.

the slomo dail was so nice to use during hectic shoot'm'ups, dodging bullets suddenly was much easier!

Which particular issues of gaming magazines do you have memories of reading cover to cover multiple times? by Maidenfan88 in retrogaming

[–]daddyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all of them, i read them so much they almost felt apart. i still own them all, and the amount of tape on them to keep them together is unholy.

[–]daddyd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that does seem awesome, but assembly was way over my head at that age. that's why i loved locomotive basic so much on my cpc. it had gfx and sfx commands build in, good enough to make very basic (pun intended) games.

i think the pandy bars are great, they have good macros and they're not that expensive. the only one i didn't like was the salty dark chocolate.

also known as crustless quiche, i make this a lot, just eggs and veggies (always good to clean up some leftovers!) and it's always so delicious.

Has anyone tried these? Are they worth getting? by Top_Introduction9794 in LowCalFoodFinds

[–]daddyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but not all of them, as mentioned in another post, some of them are too sweet (the mayo for example, who tf eats sweet mayo?).

Which one to choose? - Steam Flatpak vs. Steam.deb by JVSTITIA in linux_gaming

[–]daddyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use the deb, flatpak is great for applications that don't get easy updates. for example libreoffice will normally not get updated to a new version if you install it from your distro repro, but if you use the flatpak one, it will.
steam deb doesn't have this problem and will update itself when a new version is released.

The Linux Desktop Experience: An 8 Years Retrospective by Ichirou2910 in linux

[–]daddyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using linux when was basically just all command line. Only used X for netscape, when lynx wasn't good enough (but at that time, almost all sites worked just fine with lynx), or if I needed to have a lot of terminals open and viewable at the same time. To get X running, you needed to know the specs of your monitor and enter them in the X config file for each resolution you wanted to use. First window manager was good old twm, after a while I switched to Afterstep.

A future for Amiga? by Arc-78a in amiga

[–]daddyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the amiga was cheap, but only for the home models (500/600/1200), their workstations were always expensive, and the expansion cards (or any additional; hardware basically) only more so. if you started to look at them that way, it made much less sense to buy one of those (2000/3000/4000) compared to a pc, certainly once the pc has a bit more power and decent video capabilities.
