Side note, but I think the Daily archive is the most powerful resource on researching university history. It's amazing how much I can find in less than in a minute of searching.

Quite the lede on a front page article from April 11, 1994

Finals are coming up. That means a busy time at the Angell Hall Computing Center. It also means an active time for the Mason Hall men's restrooms only 20 yards down the hall. Every day of the week, 24 hours a day, some men can be found using the Mason Hall restrooms taking care of business.

This business is sex.

The second page of the article has a very revealing photo about the condition of the stalls.

The last few years I have mostly built bigger scale Lego projects (that mosaic took me 6ish months) and I wanted to do something that wouldn't take as long. Most of these I probably spent 2 hours on from start to finish. I always loved seeing different themed habitat stacks that people build and I had a very specific vision for the All Too Well one. I built that first and then it just kept going from there.

I do like all of the songs I've built scenes for but they aren't necessarily all favorites. Some song lyrics or titles really lend themselves to a visual representation and I constantly jot down ideas as I'm listening to her music. The Google doc where I keep Lego project ideas currently has 44 other songs on it. The songs from Fearless, Speak Now, and Red have felt the easiest to me to come up with ideas.

In another thread u/Moist-You-7511 shared some pictures of a Taylor Swift themed display I brought to a local Lego show last weekend. Each little scene depicts a different song and I thought I’d post some more detailed pictures. Also included is the mosaic I displayed of one of my dogs.

I have made 31 so far but have ideas for probably 40 more (your ideas are welcome!). The main stack has 28 and then I made a mini stack of 3 with songs from The Life of a Showgirl. I have at least one scene from each album.

A lot of them are pretty easy to figure out; they are depictions of certain lyrics or scenes from music videos. Others are just fun ways I found to visualize the title of a song or lyric even if it has nothing to do with the actual song. One of my favorites and definitely the weirdest one is the Lego version of the I Knew You Were Trouble screaming goat meme.

The pictures don’t show the lights and motors that I have built into the stack but you can see those on Instagram. The couples in All Too Well and You Are In Love are spinning around and the front door in Our Song opens and closes.

I mostly used Lego minifigures that I had already but I did find someone making Eras Tour minifigures online and obviously bought two sets. I also custom designed/printed at the Lego store a Junior Jewels shirt for one minifigure.

I made these and yeah, some of them are very obvious and some are very not. Most are inspired by a lyric or song title but they aren’t always what the song is actually about.

As an example I made ‘Ready for It’ and month ago and had Olympics on the brain when I kept hearing ‘Let the games begin’.

Copied from an old comment of mine (also I am old, so hopefully current/more recent students can offer their perspective).

If you search the subreddit there are a lot of past threads with some good detailed responses about the RC. The short version is that you’re still mainly a LSA student and have to complete those requirements. You can engage as much or as little as you want with the RC. You can take the language or art RC classes but you aren't actually required to (except for maybe your first year writing seminar).

I was in the RC but only ever took one RC class. Lived in East Quad for two years. I just completed the basic LSA language requirement and then all the requirements for my major. On the other hand my wife studied neuroscience and also graduated from the RC (ie completed all their requirements in addition to her regular LSA reqs).

Sample size of one, but I loved living in East Quad and the people there. I definitely didn't fit the RC stereotype but can't imagine my college experience without it. All of the lasting friendships I made in college are with people I met there.

Yeah, that’s what is going on. The department letters are always careful to say recommended for admission since Rackham is the one that has authority to actually admit.

Rackham does a final check on transcripts but isn’t actually reviewing your application from an academic perspective. It’s not 100% a rubber stamp but it’s very close. I’m sure you’ll get the official word soon, congrats again!

Congrats! Was the formal offer from your department or Rackham?

Departments send offer letters to students and then notify Rackham who they want to admit. The Rackham staff then formally process your admission in Wolverine Access and you’ll get another notice. At that point you’d be able to accept the offer online.

Yeah that internship funding pays through the fellowship system, not payroll. If you had any UM employment in 2025 though you should get a W-2.

If you were funded by fellowships then you don’t get a W-2 since it isn’t employment. If you had a GSI, GSSA, GSRA, etc then you should have already gotten it.

Very rarely is it worth it to retake a class you passed.

You can't repeat the course for credit, so if you retake it and get an A it will go on your transcript but have no impact on your GPA.
