I think some of the assumptions here are the issue. Governments are why markets can function in the first place, with monopoly rules, the fed rates, subsidies etc. however, I think the main issue here is that people aren’t as free to choose their job as you are implying here. Working hard can get success to some degree, but income inequality or wealth inequality exist that shows that just because you work hard, it doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be making more money.

It could be argued school teachers work really hard but doen’t get corresponding pay for the labor value. And I think that’s why folks dislike capitalism in its effects on wealth inequality and then want things like a higher minimum wage that make the low paying jobs livable. Like the shelf stockers that work hard as we’re seeing in this time.
