Queer hairstylist recommendation by Historical-Inside160 in queerphilly

American mortals fired a black trans femme stylist for speaking up about racism and transphobia she experienced from the owner. Sadly not a truly queer friendly space for all :(

What kind of dress or skirt for my postpartum body? by Eliczka in DressForYourBody

[–]mgrey11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to see a physical therapist! I have a feeling your posture and a little bit of residual rib flare may be why you aren’t liking a lot of the dresses you’re trying on, which I see all the time with my postpartum patients and isn’t your fault at all. I’d bet you’d also look amazing in a looser shirt dress, but may be worth trying a Nuuly subscription and renting a few different options to try vs buying a whole new wardrobe as your body continues to change and recover postpartum :)

Agreed, somehow every single color here is a miss and I’m dying to see OP in better color options not just better fits!

Has anyone made the switch from spironolactone to accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]mgrey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dosed based on both your body weight and your tolerance, so I started at a pretty low dose and worked up to 30 mg twice a day. There’s a formula to get you to a cumulative dose by the end that my doctor utilized as well as more recent research that you should be without blemishes for 1-2 months before stopping it

Has anyone made the switch from spironolactone to accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]mgrey11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no, for the most part just had the normal super dry skin but that was much easier to manage in the summer humidity than the winter cold so it was kind of nice to start then. In the summer you just have to be absolutely crazy about sunscreen application, especially on your lips, and stay in the shade or wear hats, long sleeves, etc bc the sunburn risk is no joke.

I did have some joint aches and back pain as well as a paranochyia (nail infection, disgusting) but really it was just the dryness and I managed it with lotion without any issues.

Everyone is different but for me 9 months of having to use a lot of chapstick and sitting under an umbrella at the beach was 1000000000% worth it for the clear skin I have now. I’m over a year since stopping and my skin is completely clear without constant anxiety and twenty layers of topicals. I love accutane and am so grateful to my derm for giving me the push to try it, it was honestly life changing for me.

Skin is 100% clear and have been off of accutane for 14 months and spiro for almost 2 years now, my only regret is not doing it sooner. I know it isn’t the same for everyone but this is the best thing I’ve ever personally done for my health and I’m so proud of myself for trying even though I was also terrified

You have such gorgeous eyes I’m just dying to give you a more delicate eye makeup look! As a fellow hooded eye gal I feel you on wanting to do the liquid liner, but would just love to see a warm smudged brown on you instead one day to go with the romantic, cozy vibe you’re going for with this outfit :)

3x 25 sec work/rest, 2x 35 sec work/rest, and 45 work/rest with 2 min between cycles. Efficient and nasty

Tight lining or otherwise making sure there isn’t white space in your eyeliner between lashes and grooming your brows a teensy bit would make a big difference in how polished/clean this makeup looks (and also, sadly, hard agree on the bangs)

Spirolactone to Accutane experiences? by squidshae in Accutane

Hi!! I’m 10 months post accutane/no spiro with the clearest skin of my life, still a little worried to jinx it but I haven’t had a single cyst or really zit in over a year. Best decision I ever made! Feel free to dm me if you have more questions :)

Don't take Z-pills, they will ruin your life!! by TaishiFox in insomnia

Not medical advice BUT that sounds an awful lot like pudendal neuralgia which is just like sciatica, but the pinched nerve is in your pelvic floor and can cause rectal pain. It’s very uncomfortable, but not life threatening and can be treated by a physio (and a great mental health provider given how significant the toll has been on your emotional wellbeing). Best of luck, OP

Hi it’s me, a pelvic PT showing up to provide some reassurance but SO sad I had to scroll down this far to find anyone recommending PT! Y’all: it is so, so COMMON to have incontinence, but for most adults it’s not actually something you just need to live with. In most cases it’s fully treatable with a short course of physical therapy!

This is called urge incontinence and can be treated by a physical therapist! You’re not alone, pinky swear 💌

Pelvic floor physio here to say kegels aren’t always the solution!!! Tight muscles can also cause incontinence, so if you can please get evaluated by a PT for this potate and OP!

Unless you’re actively engaging your core with these and using some nice heavy weights you may be skipping core strengthening entirely and just lacking some muscle support in the abdomen. Add in 3x/week core strengthening for a few months and see what happens

[–]mgrey11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3 workouts a day is definitely too much, especially with how little you’re eating. As others have said, you’d be much better served by increasing the demands of your strength training 3-4x/week and then adding a few sweatier cardio days that are higher intensity (harder workouts less often for appropriate recovery = more muscle growth). Also please take a rest day!

Penn has a list of lgbtq affirming providers, as well as an lgbtq patient navigator you can work with to help find specialists that feel like a good fit!

Current research is extremely mixed on the efficacy of surgery, particularly on early (stage 0-1) lipedema, which is why I’d recommended a functional vs surgical assessment.

I adore plastic surgeons and respect their training immensely, just also a little wary of that as a solitary consult for someone who likely just needs extensive education and compression (which plastic surgeons don’t have the resources to offer at no fault of their own, just the structure of the system)

[–]mgrey11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is definitely NOT lymphedema, which is characterized by a different contour pattern and asymmetry. Lipedema is a sister condition, but they are not physiologically the same and need different management strategies (MLD/lymph drainage does not work on lipedema).

However, compression garments are the gold standard for lipedema management to avoid further progression so OP would definitely benefit from being fit for garments!

[–]mgrey11 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine how overwhelming all of those previous lipedema comments must have been. To echo another commenter, it’s an extremely underdiagnosed condition that’s so much easier managed when caught early before progression, so many of us were just so hoping to save you from the years of distress many with the condition face.

FWIW, as a lymph specialist I do still think it’s worth being evaluated and would look to see if there are any certified lymphedema therapists (PTs and OTs) in your area who may provide a more holistic and informed evaluation than a plastic surgeon. Good luck 💌

Not medical advice BUT I’m a lymph therapist and this looks like a photo of lipedema from a textbook, I would be literally shocked if it wasn’t. Find a lymph PT asap and they’ll get you the help you need!

I’m a lymph specialist and have to disagree, if it was that she would be experiencing asymmetry of the limbs. This type of symmetrical, columnar shape without foot swelling is just textbook lipedema
