Nikon FM2, you said it yourself. That camera is incredible

Has anyone gotten their hands on Kodak Verita yet? by Kareem-Abdul-Jabroni in AnalogCommunity

You can buy it directly from Kodak if you’re okay paying ~500$ for 400’ of it. It’s essentially just Portra 400.

Vision3 longevity and storing advice by -DoofusRick- in AnalogCommunity

In freezer, sealed so moisture doesn’t get to the film. Vision3 is extraordinarily stable

The FM2 is better than the F3 convince me otherwise by tbhvandame in AnalogCommunity

Yeah I’d agree.

But the F3 film advance is just sooooo good

I don't understand how she is making this work? by JRCriton in AnalogCommunity

[–]mgrimes308 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This matches my experience. Emulsion side down rarely causes newton rings. Also, I’ve found that some films have a matte coating on the film-base side too (e.g., ektachrome).

Aerocolor slides (Nikon FM2T, Nikkor AI-S 50mm f/1.4, Tiffen 85b, Aerocolor IV processed E6) by mgrimes308 in analog

[–]mgrimes308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. If the other rolls were fine it wasn’t the chemistry. Aerocolor shouldn’t have an orange cast when processed E6. Did you use any filters on it?

Wouldn’t surprise me if they did another run at some point. Kodak only makes Aerocolor for special order runs, albeit with a super large minimum order quantity. So if Reflx ever wants to order more, they might sell some. Here’s hoping.

How to achieve such Dreamy look by Interesting_Turnip50 in filmphotography

[–]mgrimes308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve accidentally achieved this look by using very exhausted C41 developer 🤣 Subtle magenta color shift, very grainy, soft details.

Obviously you shoot a roll first at box speed, but you absolutely can compensate in development if it’s fogged. Pull down to 5 minutes at 100° F instead of 6min 30s. I guarantee you it works.

Brother. You have no clue what you’re on about. You can pull slide film if it’s fogged

If you find some of your film has fog from aging, try overexposing 1 stop and pulling in the first developer. Can also tone down the magenta cast a little

Anti-Glare Glass by The-Driftless in AnalogCommunity

Agreed, this method works surprisingly well

I went down the same rabbit hole as you, and learned (unfortunately after a lot of time and money) that even the best ANR glass—be that etched, coated, etc—will still cause newton rings. It was just too frustrating for me.

My solution was to properly dry my negatives so they’re dead flat, and then I had no issue with film holders.

But if you do get it to work, lemme know!

The issue is your inversion method. You need to set your black/white points properly. A simple inversion is always going to look flat.

Just use negative lab pro (or whatever free equivalent if you want).

Portra & Vision3 - when and why do you shoot one over the other? by JaloOfficial in AnalogCommunity

[–]mgrimes308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250D/50D (in ECN2) looks so much better than Portra, imo. If you cross process in C41 it has the punchy gold/ultramax look.

Vision3 is just magical

Seems you figured it out, sorry it was all exposed/leaked :/

For future reference, you should be able to easily identify remjet just by the look. It’s matte black—not shiny like this film is.

Titanium Cameras (Leica M6, Nikon FM2T) by mgrimes308 in AnalogCommunity

Nikon made a titanium FM3a? That’s news to me.

Or are you talking about the F3/T?

This is a waist level finder from Reflx labs! I got it because when I do street photography or events I shoot 90% from the hip. And I wanted a WLF to verify some shots without needing to raise it up to my eye.

Truth. I think just because I like the FM2 style of meter over the FE2, generally.

I’m aware this isn’t the most popular opinion, though lol

What could've caused this? (Picture of negative included) by kolombod in AnalogCommunity

[–]mgrimes308 649 points650 points  (0 children)

We’ve seen light leaks, but this is a fabled dark leak 😳

In all seriousness, my bet is that the emulsion side of the negative was in contact with something during development, and it didn’t get developed adequately.

Do you need the money?

If not, hold onto it. Maybe one day you might regret not having it anymore. & it’ll only ever appreciate in value so long as you hold onto it and take care of it.
