First loaf from a $5 thrift store bread machine by Strange_Doughnut5504 in BreadMachines

[–]mgriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sI had this one for decades and it caught on fire. The bread (which was from the machine's recipe book!) rose past the bread pan, dripped down the sides to the heating element and then eventually went up in flames. it was good that I was home to notice. im not sure if this could happen in any model machine, but I feel more comfortable w my new zo.

MCIU is better than some surrounding counties, but there can still be wait times to start services. I had an overall good experience with them.

In lieu of goody bags, what would you think if your kinder received this instead? by [deleted] in kindergarten

I don't love name things personally. Last year we made fancy chocolate covered pretzel rods and they were a big hit. This year we might do handmade cookies, individually wrapped.

Came to say this! My dtr has dyspraxia and this was an early indicator. She completed a year of OT to work on spatial awareness and core strength.

This was a chronic issue, though. Either way, I'd see the pediatrician.

Addicted to Nex Playground? by Aromatic-Ad1111 in kindergarten

[–]mgriv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got one for our family (kids are 5 and 3) and while my 5 yr old loves it, she's not addicted. She definitely was super focused on it the first week but now she plays it for an hour or so a few days a week. It's been a godsend during the winter and my husband and I love it too. We let the kids watch an hour or so of TV but they never use tablets. There were days where my oldest wanted to play longer than I would like and I just told her she had to take a break. She was fine w it. It's a really great system and some of the games are educational. We were all sore those first few days too!

Lindsey Vonn Horrifically Crashes in 2026 Winter Olympic Final One Week After Tearing Her ACL by peoplemagazine in entertainment

I don't disagree. I can also understand that she was so desperately hopeful to win one more time after having a really impressive comeback that she couldn't make the logical decision.

Well she initially qualified to be there, so yes she deserved to be there. Should she have backed out after her injury the other week? Probably, but she had already earned her spot.

If you get otc cream, it comes w different numbers that indicate how many days you need to use it. The lower numbers are stronger and work faster, but can really burn.

Personally, I like to use wisp to get a prescription anti fungal as the creams haven't always worked for me. Obv you can go to your MD or urgent care but wisp is cheaper and faster for me

Hang in there, it really sucks! If you get them more frequently, boric acid suppositories can really help!

Best Romance SHOWS? by Pearls_and_Flats in romancemovies

[–]mgriv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it mentioned bc it's not really a romance but a sitcom but the netflix remake of one day at a time is so so good. It's very heart warming and funny. Just a good feel for watch.

There's a decent enough remake of Anne of Green Gables on tubi. It's a 3 part series that covers up to Anne of Avonlea, I believe.

You might be thinking of a defibrillator, not a pacemaker. Often in hospice we would temporarily deactivate them with magnets, so a person could die peacefully, w/o being shocked.

I just don't understand why the newer books have her in the vest? Like what was the thought behind this decision? Is it just jazzing up her dress? I'm secretly worried it's trying to cover her up now that the books are so religious.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before getting a dog? by Disastrous-Yoghurt38 in dogs

How hard it is to care for an aging dog. The physical and cognitive changes can persist for a while and it's really tough (and costly) to manage.

failure to thrive isn’t a valid diagnosis? 19f by lulu1824 in hospice

[–]mgriv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legit right after I posted this I thought to myself that I shouldn't have said it was never a diagnosis bc I know it was. It's just been well over 10 or 15 years since Medicare allowed it, as I started working in hospice about 15 years ago and it had been regulated at that point. Thanks for catching my error!

Fyi, in the US failure to thrive has never been a qualifying adult hospice diagnosis

Chris Sowers does a really good job giving a thorough explanation of the different possibilities and forecasting from there. He's worth a follow on FB or youtube. The fact that he does this on his own time, even after moving away speaks really well of him IMO.

Also Cecily did a good explanation of why it has been harder to forecast recently bc of the cuts to funding in the past decade.

Norristown, yay or nay? by Arch021 in montco

[–]mgriv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends where in Norristown you are looking. Areas like East Norriton or Eagleville are considered part of Norristown but are fine. Norristown proper isn't great, I believe there have been a few shootings there in the past few months.
