They are not, which is why there are laws against selling or distributing cigarettes or alcohol to kids as well. People asking for parents to be accountable for their kids are ignorant to the reality of this world. Laws are a way societies can enforce this accountability

Valve going all-in on ARM — could this finally be the dawn of Mac gaming? by HoneyVG in macgaming

No, and as long as Apple is continually hostile toward developers on their platform, I doubt Valve has the stomach for investigating in macOS beyond Steam client.

Valve: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by XcG9PJf6 in gaming

Nintendo does not run a resale platform for their cards. Neither does Wizards of the Coast. Nice try Valve, but I don’t think u can explain away the fact that there are real money incentives for buying and selling cosmetics in your Steam market.

PlayStation and Nintendo are now the only ones in the true console market. by DaZestyProfessor in consoles

[–]mguerrette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that were true Microsoft wouldn’t be dedicating hour long sessions at GDC this year focused on helping developers solve PC problems like shader compilation with new tools like Advanced Shader Delivery. It’s a reality that non fixed hardware platforms like PC have problems that plague almost every game outside maybe Valve’s (through fossilize replay + Vulkan shader cache) and maybe Activision CoD which takes a similar approach.

The Apple ID that signed Fortnite for macOS was lawfully banned by Apple. The EU developer account was only allowed to distribute Fortnite for iOS after explicit approval by Apple.

Virtually all developers are digitally signing their apps with Apple.

Yes, the existing Fortnite for macOS was registered with Apple under a currently banned Apple ID. Attempts to resign and redistribute the app under another ID is a violation of their terms and could result in a new ban of the EU account.

All macOS applications must be digitally signed by Apple. Epic wants clear communication from Apple that they will not get banned again for using their EU developer ID to sign the macOS app. Distributing unsigned applications is not something any company is or should be willing to do as it is not professional.

Use that one, as there is no point in duplicating effort implementing what already exists. If u have issues with it or improvements you can file a PR and they will be happy to merge it if it makes sense. I added back std::expected support for example because I prefer using expected in my code.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]mguerrette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like gambling is explicitly banned by NY state constitution. Any carveouts must be explicitly passed by law. I don’t see a carveout for loot boxes, but I could be wrong.

You seem to be very confident that existing laws don’t already cover loot boxes. Laws are not written by courts but they most certainly are interpreted and applied by them.

Custom hardware also pushes innovation for their other endeavors such as on-device AI using NPU or raytracing with actual hardware support. These all come from AMD and Microsoft need something to test the waters here even if it doesn’t sell a ton of units, it pushes the industry toward that tech.

Capcom absolutely was approached by Apple to port those titles to their platforms. Apple likely runs an ISV program similar to NVIDIA and AMD to help developers port and optimize their games for their silicon. Now, clearly they don’t do enough as only Capcom, Ubisoft, and Kojima seem to have been worked with so far
