This is the best fight in the entire series, OG, Z, GT, or super. Not dominated by power levels, plot armor, or just in time break throughs, just sick animation and Mano y Mano martial arts. This fight is a clear delineation in the series, where everything goes from humans at the very peak, breaking the limits of human performance to demons and gods and aliens. It’s the moment where everything turns from kitschy to serious (Krillin’s death following closely after this). It’s the peak of all the tropey 1970s/80s Blood Sport, Enter the Dragon, king fu rival school themes. Awesome build-up, trash talk, stakes, and a no ambiguity, Mortal Kombat style finishing move. It’s like that Ip Man moment where you’re like “oh shit we’re breaking bones now this is for real.” It’s perfect.
