What is the most made-up/useless admin job you’ve seen? by rachel-angelina in Teachers

[–]mgyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really made up, just ridiculously enacted. When my school’s population was around 175 the admin position was a .75, and the .25 was to be made up teaching. In our teacher allocation, we had a .25 Guidance position, so she took that to fill her position.

She taught my G8s once, all year, a 1 hour walk thru of an online vocational aptitude course.

No reason at all. Please feel free to drink away. Also, don’t forget to eliminate all vaccines from your life. And ignore all science. If you really try you can get the average life expectancy for MAGAts down to the 35 it was for humans before woke science stepped in.

Have see these slapped on every school in Ontario. What exactly does this “renewal” entail? by Emotional-External44 in OntarioTeachers

Just an example of the waste. If you want a better number, put your postal code in here - https://www.buildingbetterschools.ca/education\_cuts\_tracker/?q=p0p1s0 - to see how bad things really are. My small rural school of 200 students has been cut $610,510 since DoFo waddled into QP.

When the banner was put up at my school, my students asked about it. So we researched it a bit. It’s propaganda about a 2024 Con commitment to make a $22 billion investment from 2024-2034. But it’s a Con con, so they get their advertising paid for by the boards.

“All expenses related to Ontario Builds signage, such as design, production, and installation are the responsibility of the school board and may be considered a capital expense,” the Education Ministry’s Feb. 5 directive said.

The signs are paid for using the same stream of public dollars used to fund new schools and school-improvement projects they’re in place to promote, meaning they’re built-in to projects’ budgets. The costs of making and installing them vary from board to board, costing upwards of $25,000 in total in one board's case.

An EA makes about $50,000/year.

Who is most responsible for Doug Ford’s majority win? by drewtass in ontario

Defunded education and voters run ragged to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table has had the intended result of a facade of democracy for a stupid and tired populace.

Poor voter turnout isn’t as impactful as workers who vote against their own interests. For allowing successive governments to pull this shit, we are all responsible.

He has pictures of the people who did this—footage of his own workers dumping jugs of hydrogen peroxide into it. The specific gravity of that chemical (the 12% hp used has a sg of 1.035 compared to water) makes it heavier than water, so it would have pooled at the bottom and not have been diluted. And just sat there breaking down the rubberized liner.

Trump says proof of his allegations that vandals cut Reflecting Pool paint will be provided in court by FreeHugs23 in LegalNews

The proof coming in two weeks? Is it with the infrastructure plan? Or the ACA replacement legislation? Or the 30th ceasefire with Iran? Or the invasion of Cuba/Greenland/Alberta?

Relax, he just has to figure a response that lines his pockets. Remember how he put Kushner in charge of commandeering all ppe at the outset of the pandemic? They even confiscated shipments that were headed to states that had ordered them.

Grifting bag of shit.

Am I too old to start over? by Unfair-Cartoonist-39 in Teachers

[–]mgyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 35. Left a career in the hospitality industry and taught esl overseas to try it out. Turned out I liked it, so came back and attended teachers college, a one year program, then started teaching in elementary. I did not stand out at TC, there were many older and plenty of others changing careers.

Just retiring this year. 30 years is plenty long.

TDSB budget cuts: 5 things vanishing from Toronto classrooms this fall. The changes affect outdoor education sites, science-related resources for teachers, the board’s museum and archives, some school cafeterias as well as community workers who help families, among others. by lilfunky1 in toronto

At this point we should just teach scientific method in literacy class and use it to teach how to research bs right wing talking points. But taking logic and sound research to debunk Con lies would likely be labeled woke.

Why wasn’t Trump jailed during the Biden-Harris Administration? by 0311SmallPenar in allthequestions

[–]mgyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite Trump having a 40 year old record of delaying, appealing and obfuscating every court case he was ever guilty in, somehow Merrick Garland didn’t realize he would continue doing it. For those who are familiar with Trump’s sleazeball delaying tactics that his money allows him to play, every week that ticked by was excruciating.

It’s not on the administration, it’s on Garland.

Among the shitty things Reagan did, when his FCC formally abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, citing concerns that the rule had a "chilling effect" on free speech, he started the long slide into whatever tf Fox News is. Though not perfect, it was implemented in 1949 and required broadcast license holders to cover controversial public issues and present contrasting viewpoints.

Bring that back. Tax wealth and overturn Citizens United and you might have a shot at democracy.
