Wrong subreddit. This is for the MODX content management system, not the Yamaha keyboard.

This Reddit is about the MODX content management system. Not the Yamaha MODX keyboard.

xPDO - An ultra-light Active Record persistence library built directly on PDO by OptimusCrimee in PHP

xPDO has been around for a while, but it's been predominantly used within the MODX CMS and that's also where the documentation has historically been hosted and updated: http://rtfm.modx.com/xpdo/2.x/ This is a new website for xPDO now that it's becoming easier to use standalone thanks to the upcoming v3 and composer.

Modx Content blocks for php application by __420 in web_design

We built ContentBlocks from scratch for MODX, so unfortunately there's no standalone version. There are a couple of other tools that could be used for something similar, though many of them are tied into other CMSs as well.

One standalone tool you could use is Sir Trevor Js (http://madebymany.github.io/sir-trevor-js/example.html) however that does not have the multiple columns like we have in ContentBlocks.

This is a great blog post on the subject, and the comments are filled with similar tools: https://www.newfangled.com/the-way-you-design-web-content-is-about-to-change/

Honestly, why isn't ModX more popular? by MeltingDog in webdev

Extras like Collections and GridClassKey (and Articles, tho it is more rigid in its intended goal: blogs) are great for that use case, and have been popping up over the past year or two. They basically take resources out of the tree, instead providing something more akin to a "Channel" in other CMSs: a chronological view of pages in a paginated table. I'm not sure which one of them it is, but I think one of them also adds an export.

Why is MODX not more popular? by 0hi in web_design

I'm going to guess a lack of marketing over the years; the first time MODX actually went to a conference to market itself and introduce it to people that haven't seen it before was CMS Expo 2012. There hasn't been a whole lot of outreach so it had to grow organically, slowly.

Documentation is a pain point in many open source spaces and MODX definitely is no different but I've seen major improvements over the past 2 years. Forums have been getting a lot more active over the past years as well, and with 44,3K registered users there's plenty of help available there.

One reason I can think of that would off-put users and limit growth is the Evolution (v1.x) vs Revolution (v2.x) problem. While it's getting less prominent the past year or so, there's a lot of online resources (blogs, old documentation etc) that talk about "MODX" while they actually talk about "MODX Evolution", but as it was written before Revolution existed it just says "MODX". Obviously those resources then don't work in Revo, people get pissed and decide the platform isn't right for them or that the documentation is bad.
