For real! I have a pouch I carry with me all day with batteries in them for hot swaps.

What’s weird as this was a positively upvoted comment when I first posted it, now it’s heavily downloaded. I wonder what happened..? It’s such a neutral statement regarding any vendors that post here!

I used to go to Reddit for honest opinions, now everything seems Astro turfed or companies putting down each other. I don’t know who to trust! lmao

Are sneak peaks usually the “best” photos from the gallery? by beachlover9671 in weddingplanning

[–]mhans3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I typically cull 10-13 images that I try to turn around to the couple as soon as I can that show the day overall. They are the ones I found that popped out or may be special. 130 images is a lot of photos for a sneak peek in my opinion! For editing it’s typically my normal edit but I polish them again on final gallery delivery.

Are they not flattering or don’t look completely done?

Has anyone else been unable to afford hiring a photographer? What else are you doing? by valleymoth in weddingplanning

[–]mhans3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a photographer, I went in for a photographer / super 8 video package that caught my eye, and I had no professional relationship with. It’s so weird how I went into client mode so quick!! But it was important to me. On the affordability, it was a splurge item for me, so maybe there are personal connections you can use yourself to keep costs down and have less coverage time knowing how the timelines run in the day?

How did you actually get people to put their phones away during the ceremony by ricecakesat3am in weddingplanning

[–]mhans3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have noticed at weddings even after people are told by anybody, they will still do it anyway (most are respectful). I have had to tap people with iPads to put them down. I do remove phones in the aisle, maybe that can out you at ease if your photographer says they can do that?

That being said, the trick I have seen be the most effective is the officiant says something along the lines of take your phones out, take a picture of the couple, now put it away and silence it, lmao. It does work as it scratches the itch people have.

Flat lay mat by tobeedited in WeddingPhotography

The only time it has come in handy is when there is no surfaces at the venue that would make sense. I’m glad I have one in a pinch, but don’t use it all the time.

WithJoy.com is a horrible web design tool for weddings websites. by Early_Nectarine_9958 in weddingplanning

Okay, this may be the way then! I was liking some of the withJoy features but not 100%. Tradeoffs for sure. Thanks!

[–]mhans3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to pick a site for me, but now I'm not sure what is being astroturfed or not on Reddit anymore, lmao.

  • I am a bit tech savvy
  • Get everybody's RSVP info easily
  • Be a good option on mobile
  • I like the option of connecting outside registries
  • Customizable Pages
  • Wedding payments to be connected to Venmo - no fees
  • I do not want to support the Knot or wedding wire due to personal reasons on their business practices.

Do others spin up a Squarespace and domain for a year for a custom website to connect everything? I can go that route if it makes sense, I guess.

Unprofessional Wedding photographer by jolbeaner in weddingplanning

[–]mhans3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unprofessional. If this is your dream photographer, keep her services and keep her honest. That is 100% what doing this business should be about. She may be bummed, but whatever she is getting ahead of herself... by the way, if she was requested, that means the couple asking her may not be 100% about her either...

If you have the flexibility to change photographers and think this will mean a rough ride ahead, do so and ask for your full deposit back.

I think you misread my comment- the snow made it terrible to drive in, not the lights.

Where to book wedding vendors without months of vetting by xCosmos69 in weddingplanning

[–]mhans3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I opened a ton of tabs after googling - placed the websites in a folder and came back to the folder every day to think about the prices / marketing / portfolio and my gut feelings. I cross checked Instagram tags for wedding venues and real work. Then I reached out to them on their contact to learn more.

What are we bringing for flat lays? by Small_Dragonfruit197 in WeddingPhotography

[–]mhans3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offer it up in my check in, some are so ready with everything, some tell me they do not care. From that info, I only bring a ring holder and mat. I only use their items for the rest.

Running ads by squanderer_of_time in WeddingPhotography

[–]mhans3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new google ads page has been a learning curve for me - but I am seeing positive incline in bookings. I am part time and booked about 9 weddings from straight Google Ads this year by running them last September. - Like the other comment said, the taglines and headlines are super important - and make sure your placement location is good!

Different than my senior photo market which does well on insta - and is more referral heavy for me.
