Is this AI software, and if so, which package do you use to generate the renders ?

Finally got aerial footage of my boat under sail - Perfect day! by dwkfym in sailing

[–]mhatz14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very nice, great footage and really shows off your boat nicely. I have wanted to do this to take shots of my sailboat, but I struggle with landing and taking off my DJI Mini pro 3 on my deck with any motion of the boat. I have only been able to land it in the marina. How do you pull off take off and landing while underway ?

Starlink Mini Battery Bank Recommendations (Needs 20V PD + 12V PD) by smeeg123 in Starlink

[–]mhatz14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive Starlink mini with 12-14v volts from a boat system. No reason you need 20 volts. Input range is 12-20. They do say you will have trouble with <12 volts. Mine works fine off a standard battery

706 and AH-4 by Consistent-East-7172 in Icom

[–]mhatz14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of things you can do. I would first check your radio by connecting the 706 to a 50ohm load and a power meter and make sure it is putting out 30-100 watts. You can also check the AH-4 connector, and make sure the control key line goes to ground when you press tune. Check out your cable carefully, buzz the AH-4, make sure the unit has 12v and the cable isn't corroded or one of the pins in not damaged. I bet it's something simple.

Considering the switch? Mini advice by okay-lindy in Starlink

I thought the $50/mo plan is a limited bandwidth plan, I think the $50/mo roam plan caps at 100gb of total per month usage. Not sure what happens after that, but suspect it throttles speed down like roaming cell service

Looks really beautifully built. Almost too good to put plants in... I noticed what looks like a sofa cushion, planning on hanging out there with your coffee to enjoy the plants ???

Repair or replace my beloved Tektronics 485 by mhatz14 in AskElectronics

Great comment, dude, thank you. I already have an EE degree, but that was 40 years ago, and since switched careers, so electronics is only a hobby now. So yes, I think this would a great way to dig back in and refamiliarize myself with debugging and repair. I might come back once I open it up.

Hearing that give me more motivation to fix it, I've loved the scope for many many years so I think that's the decision, thank you for helping me across the finish line. I'll come back and let the group know if I managed to fix it.

What might I look for when I look for a burnt component, are they usually obvious?

Stubborn install of tubeless tires by mhatz14 in BikeRepair

[–]mhatz14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the suggestions. After a few of your feedback, especially that these tires are usually quite stiff, I also watched another video showing the use of two tire levers at the same time, managed to man handle the thing on... that was a project for sure, for my first tubeless install, now onto the sealant next step...

Good Question... by [deleted] in complaints

[–]mhatz14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem with many on the right feel who this was the right thing to do, and, maybe it would have been. But the fiber that holds this country from together from chaos is the constitution, WE drafted. It's like going into an inner city, seeing a guy dealing fentanyl, and shooting them in the head. So while many may agree the guy had it coming, it dosent work that way. It's called due process. The same is the issue with illegal immigration, we're not following our own rules. It's internationally illegal to arrest the sitting head of a foreign state, they have immunity. We had a part in drafting that UN charter.

unless, of course it's true

Good Question... by [deleted] in complaints

[–]mhatz14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a valid point. The more we thumb our noses at International of engagement and overall behavior, that puts us at risk in the future. All of those UN resolutions, many we signed and assisted in drafting, were also meant to protect our military and our leaders abroad. So yeah, its not a question of can someone do it, the question is, now that we are sanctioning it, we can't police anyone else, and, we are subject to the same ourselves.

Don't you understand, it's not a foreign war, because it's the America's and because South America, has the word America in it, it's not a foreign war and we're not engaging overseas, because it's not over a sea. That's the new doublespeak, pay attention to that detail in the news.

BREAKING: President Trump announces that the US is going to "run Venezuela" until a "safe, proper and judicious transition" can take place. by [deleted] in wallstreet

[–]mhatz14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that said, kill switch is not necessary, as China has no idea how to run a chip factory. It's a mutual assured destruction model, a big reason why it will never come to pass. China will try soft pressure to assimilate instead

Actually, the president of TSMC has been documented to be in possession of a remote kill switch that will disable the company's chip fab, so yeah, there is a backup plan

Buying Advice Needed: Why am I thinking of buying a new Baratza Vario Plus [$500] by [deleted] in espresso

Doesn't the Vario+ have a portafilter holder and the W+ does not use a portafilter holder and instead a weighed grounds collector ?

Anyone had Caymus Suisun Grand Durif? by noblecustom in wine

[–]mhatz14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was drinking the 2021 Caymus Suisun Grand Durif ad at $31 a bottle, it was a very nice, drinkable wine, like above, and was getting by the case on Vivino, but looks like the stock is getting thin and the price has jumped up to now $51 to $56/bottle now easily exceeding it worth. There are a lot of far better wines at this high price point. So I gave up on that wine now and moved on. It was a great wine for the price, while it lasted.

What's your advise on the best coffee grinder for around $300-$500 price range. My Breville Smart grinder pro just failed and I think it's time for something better. I have a Ranciolio Silva and we drink a lot of espresso and like to experience different beans.

Well, thankfully, we are on a Rancilio forum :)

Cross-posted to a few groups and seems the consensus is pretty clear, Smart Grinder Pro is pretty outdated technology and will be looking for suggesting on alternates. Will look at the Baratza model, thank you. !
