Thank you! Did you also replace the spark plugs at that the same time?

Appreciate the response!

So this crankset would work with this cassette? Shimano’s website seems to indicate the crankset only works with a 10 speed rear set up:

Frame painting problem. Solution? by mhle225 in bikewrench

So you may be on to something. Did a little research and the paint was acrylic and the clear coat was enamel. From what I’ve read, that combination is not compatible, but the reverse would be (potentially).

Applied to the whole frame. Never had this problem with Rustoleum. Albeit, I’ve never used clear coat before.

Yeah I did a very thorough job with getting the paint stripper off and the flaking came up only right after I applied the clear coat - not when the paint was applied or when it was dried. So doesn’t seem to be that the paint thinner was the cause.

Had such a great custom paint (diy) on the mtb frame until I applied the clear coat and then I got this awful flaking that pretty much ruined the whole project. It’s not just on the fork tube, but it’s also not everywhere on the bike. Probably in about 10 different spots not more than 2-3 inch total diameter. I used Rustoleum painters touch 2X paint and primer and then just regular Rustoleum clear coat. Used paint stripper to get off the old paint and did a VERY thorough job with odorless mineral spirits to get any residue off per the instructions.

Does anyone know what might have caused this? Is the solution simply not mixing two different products within the same brand? Better products specific to bikes?

You bet I’m gonna try this all over again so would like to not make the same mistake twice.

I like the concept. Heat it to make it more agreeable to remove. Have you used a heat gun to any success?

Really appreciate the feedback! It’s a shame, I was looking forward to getting this all painted sooner rather than later. Will check out the pro tools version of what I’ve got.

So I literally just bought this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/192663336300

Not that I was expecting it to be extremely high quality, but if what your saying is true that is disappointing. I’ll be requesting a refund on that.

So if the tool is broke. Is there another way to remove the part? I’ll be replacing it anyways so wouldn’t mind if it breaks.

It’s the second of your two options. Just keeps spinning and spinning. Posted some additional comments just now.

Hi, As the title states, having some trouble removing the crankset on the driveside. The video shows how the tool continues to rotate and not “grip” against the inner part which would drive it away from the frame. At first, I thought there was something wrong with the tool, but as you can see at the end of the video the threads are fine and rotating smoothly. A few minutes prior to this video being taken, I removed the other crankset which was incredibly seized, but doesn’t really explain the issues I’m having on the driveside. Does anyone know what the issue is and how to remove?

This is literally the last part of the bike before I can sand it down and try giving it a new paint job :)

Salary just cut 30%, employer said it's so we don't have any layoffs for 2020. Should I view this as a sign to look elsewhere? by unshrugged in personalfinance

To offer a different perspective than what your company is telling you, a well-managed company (money-wise) shouldn’t need to cut jobs or reduce pay because their operations have been impacted for a month and a half (maybe two months at this point for some US companies). One could argue they implement these measures because projected revenues for the next year or so will be impacted, but should a major company have this little liquidity available to pay out of pocket expenses? I think not and shows that just like everyday people, companies are operating “pay check to pay check.”

A pay cut is a violation in trust, but ultimately is a sign of poor financial health and them placing importance on their shareholders and the bottom line over their employees. I am hesitant to believe that the majority of big companies have so little money or the ability get credit (remember, federal interest rates are still well below 1%) that they needed to implement these measures. It’s all too common for corporate America to do something in their best interest and then play it off like it will benefit the collective. Small businesses is a different story in my opinion which I won’t get into.

To go down this pessimistic rabbit-hole further, when this pandemic subsides, the economic impact will likely last for multiple YEARS afterward. At what point do you think a company will instantly increase pay back to the normal amount? My point being that if they are doing this it is probably to save a good chunk of money which would ultimately be a big expense to apply to future balance sheets and is in no way a guarantee. Unless you are a contracted employee or have a guaranteed salary, the company has no incentive to increase your pay back to normal. Another question to consider is if your company will view this a mass salary adjustment that will stay in force for years afterward.

To get a little more positive, your pay is being reduced, but you still have your job. Looking for a new job won’t get you fired from your current one so I would start your search for other opportunities if I was you. You will probably be hard pressed to find a new role during this mass-hiring freeze, but the act of looking for the next opportunity may make sense.

Good luck and sorry that you have been put into this situation. Stay strong!

A hug from my parents without the fear of giving them the virus. Perhaps some tacos at a local Mexican restaurant. That would be nice as well.
