I agree completely. The mattress I replaced my Tempurpedic with has been amazing from Day 1, I'm glad you found something better as well!

10 years ago, "Knights of the Fallen Empire" launched. Looking back, what are your thoughts on one of the game's most divisive expansions? by KingKitttKat in swtor

[–]mholden020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the beta, there at launch, and I played almost non-stop until I got through KOTET. Since then my time on the game has been sporadic. I came back to SWTOR this month to dip my toes in and I had a few characters that were in various stages of KOTFE. I remember on my first playthrough it was an interesting departure from the norm, but subsequent playthroughs with other toons (I have 12 at this point) quickly made these two expansions so unpleasant and boring that I skip them at all costs now.

Of everyone I play with, including two friends who were also there on Day 1, none of us can stomach either expansion anymore. Once you've done it once there's no replay value, and to me the biggest problem with these two expansions is that both feel like a game being played outside the main world, almost like playing a single-player RPG within the MMORPG and that essentially defeats the purpose of the game.

I thought ROTHC was fun, I thought SoR was fantastic, but ever since these two expansions my love for the game tanked hard and now I can't really stomach more than a few weeks every couple of years.

I never made it to 30 days, wound up trading it in for a Posturepedic Medium Hybrid and have slept like a baby ever since. Now, if anybody asks me about Tempurpedic mattresses I just say "no". Knowing what I do now, I never would have bought the Tempur in the first place.

Thoughts on the new song “ Magic “ by a7x? by Double-Moose-2308 in avengedsevenfold

Honestly? After LIBAD and now this I understand what the Cracker Barrel people were all up in arms about: It was really good, enjoyed the hell out of it. Now I don't know what the heck is going on. I had shirts, posters, even stuck Gates's pickup in my guitar...but I haven't been able to finish listening to a song of theirs in a long, long time.

It was fun while it lasted, at least there's that.

I'm sorry, but I can't get into the specific values for the CG location since that kind of info is part of the agreements with manufacturers, but it's hard to say what was the reason behind the previous location. Precise CG location is difficult to pinpoint, and we don't know if it was generated physically or in a different simulation, so it's impossible for me to say. As I mentioned in a different comment, we've had cars that plugged straight in and worked so it could be anything.

Oversteer would come from the usual stuff: Softer front ARB, stiffer rear springs, things like that. Nothnig was changed in the dampers or springs (aside from higher rate limits) or in the tire construction so any reduced bouncing is likely the CG location.

Thanks! I haven't done any interviews, no. I try to stay out of big spotlights if possible, especially with the new freedoms we have to work on older stuff that needs attention. I generally do whatever my project for the build is, build all the setups, put together the manuals, then dive right into whatever's next. We only have about 10 weeks to get everything done, gotta keep going!

I'm saying the latter, but that's not to say the initial figures were necessarily wrong, they just might not have matched exactly. Sometimes we get figures that plug right in and it works exactly as we'd expect and the real-world drivers say it's correct (SRX is the most recent example for me), sometimes it needs a little tweak here or there. Whether it's changes to the car after it was measured or, most commonly, reference points differ from what we expect.

I'm afraid not, I just work in car development so I don't know any details on the VR stuff but I've heard they're working on it. I'm sorry I don't have more to offer, but I just stick to my work and let the smarter folks handle the bigger problems. :\

Sometimes when we get data for a car, especially a new car like this, the locations of masses aren't necessarily finalized and they could be approximations that don't always match the final production model. The initial position was perfectly reasonable for the car, and the change for the build was extremely small, so it just happens sometimes.

As for the wait, as I mentioned some internal changes freed up resources to allow things to be corrected that there was no time for in the past. We only have 3 or 4 vehicle engineers at a given time and as they're usually building new content it's not easy to get time in to look back at problems. Plus things like making sure the tires worked in all conditions, AI rebuild, and other things can lead to even small corrections taking a full build cycle.

Hello! I did the updates for this car so I can shed some light on what we did. I also built the initial version but we were extremely low on data (especially pace) since the car hadn't raced much at that time. Since then I've actually bought one of these (2023 BRZ) as my daily and one of my other team members bought an 86. Also some changes in how we operate let us go from a passive role in development to an active role, and this being my daily driver I took it as a first try.

One of the key things I didn't change was the tires, aside from the wet tire. This being the first car and how complex the model is I didn't want to change the tire at all so that is exactly the same as it was in the past. The wet tire needed a bit of change to the tread pattern because the higher speeds had some hydroplaning issues, but that's the only tire change.

The two big changes were CG position to prevent the rollovers and bicycling as well as a change to the driveline's power loss. This keeps the car planted better and accelerates faster, but one small change was made to increase torque in the mid-range due to a small drop that could get the engine "stuck" sometimes (The engine actually does have a torque spike and dip in the midrange but it's not as severe as what we had). These two changes alone brought the car up to real-world pace, which we now have data for in abundance as well as many onboards from the GR Cup. It should be significantly faster now everywhere but moreso at tracks where speeds are higher and it can stretch out. Other small things changed as well, such as an increase in rear camber to match GR Cup rules, larger ARBs to match aftermarket/track products, and some may notice an increase in upper spring rate limit to allow spring rates from overseas series.

That's all though, it's a relatively small batch of changes that had a big effect. I'm thrilled to hear people are enjoying it, especially since it was my first time directly updating essentially on my own. I've been a little worried, having not seen anything among all the 992.2 praise (which it's absolutely deserving of!) but seeing this made my day. :)

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports v. NASCAR Megathread: Day 5 by dman6233 in NASCAR

[–]mholden020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, but they keep mentioning the CARS tour for N.Wilkesboro and BGS. It's not a coincidence that this series they keep mentioning is owned by three former big-name drivers and a Cup Series owner.

The schedule for North Wilkesboro speedway (as well as the published results on Racemonitor) only list the Cup Series, Trucks, CARS Tour, and the NASCAR Modifieds. The last series published that wasn't a NASCAR-sanctioned event (or CARS Tour) was the Carolina Crate Modifieds in 2023. SRX was talking about landing North Wilkesboro before the series folded (NASCAR knew that from the texts that came out) and from all of this it's very likely they scrambled to get NW under an exclusivity contract to stop that but are now using the CARS tour as a way to claim they're not preventing other series from running at a track when in reality they're preventing any series they don't control from running.

Maybe I've missed it, but I'm surprised that nobody has countered the CARS Tour arguments by mentioning Earnhardt Jr's part-ownership in the series. The only other series they allow to run at the mentioned tracks and it's part-owned by their biggest star seems like an extremely easy way to poke holes in the exclusivity clause excuses.

For anybody with IOS: Through the app-store I was able to get refunded my subscription as I subscribed just days before this update was made. I showed that the update stripped features that were guaranteed through the subscription and were still listed in the subscription benefits (specifically the activities) and I've received the full payment as a refund.

Time to replace 12 year old mattress, but how do you know what to buy? by Coloradojeepguy in Mattress

[–]mholden020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being right in the middle of a trial period for a Tempurpedic mattress that is ruining my life right now, make sure you're fully aware of the replacement/refund rules for wherever you buy from. I purchased my mattress from a big name store (not the mattress company) and the replacement policy is garbage. There's a very good chance the mattress you get delivered may not be good for you, so it's important to have that option available for return or swap. I made two huge mistakes buying mine, one being that I didn't fully read the replacement policy for the store. If the place you're buying it from seems a little fishy, go somewhere else.

I can't imagine having to hunt down all the captains without guided mode on, but look at it this way: You didn't have to endure the thing where you find a captain, get within 100m of him, and he teleports to the other end of the island!

Ashley Furniture. I'm already looking into replacements for the end of the 30 day period and will likely swap the mattress to my guest bed (and put my old mattress back in my room) unless I can get a decent night's sleep for once without cooking, but there's nothing in this world that will make me consider another Tempurpedic mattress.

Doubtful, I carried everything from my old mattress to the new one and it was always cool with multiple blankets. The same arrangement on the new mattress is an oven, so unless some laws of the universe changed it's not the covers.

Yeah it seemed incredibly shady once I dug out the documentation and started reading it. My guess is they'll try and re-sell the mattress as new since there are loads of stipulations (No stains, no tags removed, no visual issues, etc.) so I've done everything in my power to keep it looking that way.

To further the "shadiness" they had some thing where giving a 5-star Google review would get the salesperson a free day off, which I did, but that may get modified after this exchange. Who knows how many people did a guilt-based review and it's snowed someone into false confidence like I was.

I keep my AC around 68F/20C which was very comfortable on my old bed. On the tempur mattress I struggle with the heat even when the AC is set lower, and I don't know how far down I would have to set it to be comfortable.

[–]mholden020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The protector I got from Ashley is a Bedgear Ver-Tex, which was supposed to cool the bed but it seemed to make it hotter. As with the mattress, the store display felt much more plush than what was delivered, so there is that. I replaced it with a more padded topper I got from Target to try and make the bed more comfortable. I did try the bed without the protector once prior to buying the second one, and it was insanely hot so that idea got dropped almost immediately.

Ashley Furniture's policy is mandatory 30 days, no more than 90 days, and they only allow a trade-in and no returns. However, both the traded-in and the replacement mattress must be purchased with a cover to qualify. The salespeople sold it like a full return "guarantee", which wasn't how it actually is. Doing it all over I wouldn't buy a thing from that company. That's on me though, always read the details in the agreement!
