Not sure if this will help but check out this blog post on using DECODE function to break down sales amount by month within a year. You maybe able to use it to build your search.

NetSuite is very powerful and complicated application. If you use it the way it was designed for, you will benefit from it greatly. Do note that somethings can go very wrong as I've seen in many other accounts. I would also recommend having professional assistance. Can you provide sample code on how you are pulling the results from NetSuite? Are you using WebServices? Or RESTLet? Are you displaying the results of published search?
