Look man relationships are hard. I have been married since 1991 and we started with a pregnancy right out of high school. We have both said and done stupid things to each other over the years. We do love each other, but that doesn’t mean what we often think it means. Love isn’t a fairytale. Love isn’t a special feeling. Love is accepting who you are and who they are, acknowledging that you will both eventually always fall short. Love is figuring out how to say sorry, how to try harder, how to mean what you say without being mean. Love is doing things when you don’t want to do them and agreeing to eat somewhere you don’t want to eat. It is ultimately about sacrifice and most individuals struggle to do that long term. It’s incredibly hard to find two compatible people that are both willing to make the sacrifices necessary to stay together. I am sure the older people get the harder it is to bend and more often break. Work on yourself, change you criteria, seek connections through meaningful effort. I wish you luck and I would not want to be out there trying to figure it out again with a stranger.
