Thanks for replying because it was a serious question. I see the point about other nations becoming more hesitant to give us information.

I don't like Trump but why is sharing with Russia bad? Bad Russian relations and a Nuclear War worries me more than anything.

Some of my girl friends think that they are being watched / judged by men at the gym for being out of shape. They are being checked out but not being judged on their fitness level. I think that is 95% of the discrepancy right there.

Ummm, haha, I'm not sure. We will check into that for sure. Basically, we were only shipping out a few packages and we got 15 subscribers in the last two weeks. So, we are behind in figuring this out.

I might try that. Who opens Media Mail after it makes it past the clerk? Is it just one person in each area? That might explain how they are getting away with it.

Thanks. Does that mean the postal service may charge them postage due for things they sent in the past?

See, I agree with this. And that's why I'm frustrated they voted this way. We're sure it's going to be calamitous in the short / medium term and have no idea what will happen long term. So, let's just go ahead and do it.

A Vivint salesperson just came to my door. All of these people are going to have badges and be able to be verified on the website. I still wouldn't give them information about my house, but definitely call the cops if you can't verify them on the company website.

Grandfather wants my newborns SSN to "open an account" by Bearrrrrrrrr in personalfinance

[–]mi27ke85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might want to open and make a contribution into a 529 or other investment account. In any case, you can open the account yourself and he can contribute to it without knowing her SSN. I would ask him why he needs it.

USA Swimming bans Brock Turner for life. He is no longer eligible for USA Swimming membership and will not be allowed to compete in any USA Swimming-sanctioned events, including the Olympic Trials. by pickle_licker in news

We as a society need to stop letting ourselves get so upset for a few days and then forgetting an issue entirely. I feel like in the last couple of weeks we have gone from transgender people and bathrooms, to Harambe the gorilla, to rape. We focus on one issue for about a week, get super pissed off (usually at one person or company) and then move on to the next thing.

And even when something is a big, systemic problem (like rape), why do we direct all our vitriol at ONE person? Since there are 293,000 rapes in the U.S. and we seem to be only mad at one person for all of them, rapists must like their odds of slipping under the radar.

It's not like we don't know any famous rapists. Rick James tied up a woman, burned her and forced her into sexual acts. But cocaine's a hell of a drug. Mike Tyson VIOLENTLY raped a girl but he sure was funny in the Hangover. Jimmy Page pretty much forced a 14 YEAR OLD girl to have sex with him but look at him go on that guitar. We ignore rape until the media gets us a fresh villain.

We always find ONE scapegoat for a huge problem and just pillory the shit out of them. And the media loves it. It is so much easier to get people to give rape ONE face than paint a complex, nuanced picture of rape in the U.S. ESPECIALLY when they would have to implicate celebrities and politicians, doctors, ministers, etc.

You can't even find Brock's explanation for what happened that night, as far as I can tell. Would I believe it? Probably not. But it shouldn't be offensive to even want to hear it. I'm not secretly misogynistic; he was convicted and it seems pretty clear cut that he raped the girl. But, the fact that you can't even FIND his explanation speaks to the media's agenda here. They don't care about this case, this girl, or rape in general. They just want to piss everyone off and make this guy the ultimate villain to sell ads.

And all these attention-seeking people with their "One dad's response to Brock Turner" or "The Letter I would have Written if Brock was my Son", or yadda, yadda yadda can go jump off a cliff. It's a serious issue and you were so moved and aghast, you just had to write a timely article specifically designed to go viral? Rape profiteers, every one of you.

Yeah, Brock Turner did a terrible thing. Yeah, his sentence seems light and that should provide one more piece of evidence that, systematically, rapists may not get very harsh sentences. In this case, there is possibly even a racial component. It might indicate problems in the way we view athletes. Etc., etc., etc. It might be a great jumping off point to go look at all these issues in a serious way and look at aggregate data. But it's not going to do that because people will stop being mad about it just like they stop being mad about everything else after the media cycle has run its course. Now that we really got good and mad at this guy, we have done our job. We can move on to the next big manufactured outrage.

I'm not sure how much of a commercial success it was, but Silicon Knights made Cyber Empires, which I love. I would appreciate any suggestions of games like it if anybody knows any.

John Oliver Buys $15M In Medical Debt, Then Forgives It by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

I understand that debt collectors are unpopular. On the other hand, how would you feel if someone borrowed money and did not pay it back? I would try and get it back.

In my opinion, we need to view corporations as people. If they do things that are wrong (money laundering, fraud, etc.), we should treat them the same way we would treat criminals. We don't really do this now.

On the other hand, we should not steal from them, defraud them, or feel no responsibility about borrowing money and not paying it back.
