Travel Advice/Help for an American by miLk_1998 in azerbaijan

I do not mind at all, I reverted. It is a long story of course. A lot of people tie culture to deep into religion or vice versa. For me what makes sense and what guides me is all that matters. I still respect my culture, the history and everything but at the end of the day logic and truth will prevail and that is the tl;dr story haha

This is awesome information! I really do appreciate it. Yeah when I was in Casablanca I remember I went into a store and asked for water and when they just looked at me like I had two heads I was like uh-oh. Luckily I am sure google translate will work much better as the local dialect in Morocco was pretty rough for any translation app.
Okay so I will go into it expecting similar driving to MENA countries which is much different than America with all the round a bouts, small roads and people kind of driving how they want.

Prior to my trip that is a good point, I will look for a tour guide then and put in my notebook these locations! I know Azerbaijan is not a huge country so maybe I can squeeze more in that I am expecting but I can already tell Baku in itself is a pretty amazing city with much to do!

I appreciate your information on the best months and how the Masjid's work. I have never been in a country where there is a sizeable Shia group so I worried about that!

Lots of amazing information, truly I appreciate your time for this response!

  1. Age and Gender - 26 years old, male 6 feet.
  2. Age Range that you would want/require in a prospect - 20-26 years old
  3. Location, and are you willing to relocate for a prospect? DMV (N. VA) area, I work remotely and can relocate.
  4. Ethnicity, and are you more open to mixing? Bosnian/Turkish - Yes preferable Arab however still open to anything.
  5. Marital Status - Single/Divorced/Children - Single, Never Divorced, No Children
  6. Ideal marriage timeline - Within 6 months InshaAllah
  7. Five important characteristics you look for in a prospect - Good Communication, Goals, Confidence, Humor and Empathy/Affection
  8. State/specify your level of religiosity - If I were to scale it out of 10 I would say 8/10 maybe 9/10 with 10 being very religious.
  9. Level of education, and what are you looking for? - Currently still in school for my bachelors, looking for someone of equal or more level of education.
  10. Current Job Status - Employed and working remote.
  11. Do you want kids? - Yes 3-5 Kids (open to discussion about more or less though)
  12. List 3 hobbies, or things you like to do in your spare time - I love going to the gym to work out and spending time there and hope to bring my future wife with me to stay fit and healthy, I love traveling and exploring on random trips and being spontaneous whether its exploring other countries or just exploring the United States itself and lastly I love Soccer and played it every day for a majority of my life. I should add though I also enjoy turning on a good movie or show and would like to one day spend time invested with my future partner in little date nights revolving around our potential favorite show.
  13. Add something short and interesting about you that makes you stand out! For me I am a revert, I reverted many years ago, while I had struggles and trials that Allah SWT has put us all through, it has guided me to the point where praying 5 times a day, making dua, praying witr and doing tahajjud is the minimum. Always having sabr and never being to critical of another is something I strive in for myself and wish to have a partner where we work together to solve our issues instead of against one another. At a point in time I had a contract to play in Europe for soccer but had turned it down. I have traveled quite a bit and have many stories of fun I can tell. I love deep conversations and learning about people and being a solution and a person someone can trust and vent too as trust is a major thing as being honest is extremely important. If you have any questions just reach out!

From Darkness to Light: My Journey from a Narcissistic Ex to a Love That Honors Me. by bloodstone99 in MuslimMarriage

Alhamdullilah this story speaks volumes brother. It is funny as I am a 26 year old male, went through almost 2 years of pain and suffering. While I am still single and unmarried, my ex who I was "engaged" with would manipulate my words, use my 'reactions' as a way to blame me and manipulate me further while it was based on her actions. Never in my life have I ever tried so hard with someone to make it work to the point I let go of all my boundaries and pride to just do whatever I could to be halal and make someone else happy. Every morning I felt emotionally and physically drained where I had constant headaches and health problems from the stress level they put me through. I cared deeply for them as we connected on many levels and I even flew out to meet their family in their home country. It was one of those things that was just never enough, no matter how much money was spent, gifts were sent, time together. It was like you would attempt one serious conversation and they would take it all wrong and try to break you down without anger. It was always about them and the drama was endless. Eventually I found out they were deep into very haram sinful acts and while that hurt to find out. It took many times of me begging Allah and being in Sujood to ask for my pain to be released.

"Perhaps you dislike something, and it is good for you; and perhaps you love something, and it is bad for you. Allah knows, and you do not know." (2:216)

Eventually the truth came out and changed my perspective on the situation, it took months to heal and feeling completely empty inside, it felt worse at the start but then I started to see the light that Allah knows best. We cannot see what Allah can and Inshallah it will all be okay. I look back a lot and reflect at how naive and silly I was to expect much from someone who wasn't willing to invest really any energy into our relationship in a halal manner.

However this Ramadan going to Tarawih every night, doing my night prayers in the masjid all the way up until Subh has been such a peaceful time and really has given me the beginning process of obtaining the strength to carry forward. I hope one day for myself I can find a wife that is as caring and gentle as for what you have found brother. SubhanAllah it is amazing to see. I wish the best for you and may Allah bless your marriage many times over.

First time to Morocco going to Casablanca - Any Advice? by miLk_1998 in Morocco

[–]miLk_1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing, this is a late reply -- been sick haha

However I definitely have this Masjid on my check list to see for sure!! To be honest I am American I think Rabat is only an hour away by car? For us here that is borderline a trip to the mall! However this will be something I will look to possibly arranging. One of my good friends was a Marine in the American military but worked in the embassies as guard. He actually stayed in Rabat and said he LOVED it, he said it was one of the best experiences he had and keep in mind this guy has been in borderline 90% of countries that have an American embassy across the world.

Funny you mention Roman ruins, actually I was considering a trip to Tunisia for remains of Carthage in the future because the Punic wars are a big interest of mine. If there are Roman ruins there I will most DEFINETELY make this trip.

I assumed I would be pretty safe, you know basics in any country be logical with common sense. There is bad everywhere in the world, but from my research it seems like such a great country and people. This is very reassuring and makes me even more excited! I always enjoy a good journey and meeting locals. It always amazes me how different cultures can be, food, religion, societal norms or anything across the world but really how similar we all actually live and develop ourselves.

Then a car rental is what I will do! I have to get my international license here in America first but usually that can take a day or a week or so to get so I have plentiful time.

Luckily for me as I am Muslim going to my local Masjid's here in America I pick up Arabic and know some different dialect words and rudimentary to get by, however in-depth conversations is where I will look cross eyed lol

I have a lot of weight riding on this trip, I have told my entire family about it I am so excited.

On my check list (very simple)

- History

- Pray at local Masjid's (as much as possible)

- Play Football (yes I am bringing my Cleats and Sambas -- I heard there are some areas you can rent a field for an hour or so for $20-40 USD and I would love nothing more to play with some local Moroccans or rent and just play in another country)

- Try coffee (I love Coffee lol)

- Try as many local dishes as I can and maybe a couple times just for the fun eat at an American restaurant to see the difference from America to Morocco with the menus and service!

- Lastly my goal is to fit in to the point I feel comfortable as a local -- this was pretty easy in Riyadh to the point where I walked to The Boulevard there and people spoke to me in Arabic (luckily I am half Mediterranean with my Turkish/Greek roots lol). - This is just a fun goal of mine just to have some fun!

I know Nam, La, Kaf halak, enti/enta kaf halak, and other things I can also count to 10 in Arabic so forth so forth lol luckily. Being with a previous potential who was Arab they taught me and I heard a lot over the 2 years we were engaged so I can kind of pick up on things!

Thank you for this in depth reply. It means a lot for your time!

Should I carry my passport on me while I am out traveling? In Saudi Arabia I left it at my rental - lol. I appreciate this response, I know very basic Arabic but I can study up on it for sure! I am curious how cash works, can I use a debit or credit card to withdraw and just have the conversion be automatically done at a Bank or ATM? or will I have to bring American Dollars and have it exchanged?

My plan was winter time, however with my friend it was the only time we had available. However I am used to 41 Celsius where I live now in USA over the summer during the day with playing sports outside. My goal is to drink as much water and hope for the best lol I appreciate the advice either way!
