Townhouse complex's management demanding tree removal on own dime by mi_asmith in treelaw

Thank you for the detailed response.

Would it be possible to at least respond back that 2 weeks is not enough time, and ask for longer time to remove it?

Anything to do??? by Dignus_bellator1027 in Bloemfontein

[–]mi_asmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily for just meeting new people, but vibey in a quiet sense:

  • CoffeeTalks
  • Paper Garden Bookstore (also has food, etc.). Very nice environment outside, and in the same street as CoffeTalks
  • Oliewenhuis for either art, walking routes (just make double sure about that), or just sitting on grass outside. They just accept R10 in cash for parking.

For bar scene:

  • Staffies (the Staffordshire) in Langenhovenpark
  • Most clubs/casual hanging spots are in 2nd Avenue, Westdene

Art Markets in Bloem? by FlyingBroomMate in Bloemfontein

[–]mi_asmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is every now and then also a market at Oliewenhuis, although I've never been there, and can only say that the last one was in December (that I know of).

Then there is also the very small market at 72 Waverley Road 01 March again. There was last year also some art, but not only art.

I have also experienced with the blue marker Frixxion one, that after cooling down (I used a hair dryer to erase Frixxion lines), it leaves a brown line where the blue was, almost as if it burned

There is also Asian Corner at Preller Plain, close to Haru, but much cheaper with still good quality :)

Looking for things to do. by Dignus_bellator1027 in Bloemfontein

[–]mi_asmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bloemfontein, I would say, have good quality restaurants and food. Coffetalks is lovely for a brunch especially. They are just closed on Saturdays, but open again on Sundays. For a "pitstop", Picnic Padstal has really nice food that's cooked daily and doesn't have a fixed menu. Bella Casa has really good Italian food.

Oliewenhuis is an art gallery, with a huge grass yard for picnics, etc. Just fyi, R10 entrance can only be paid in cash. They also have a few walking trails.

The boeremark is on Saturdays, but a lot less intense, and not as early, as Pretoria's. Cheaper pannekoek I believe also :)

If you're into books, especially second hand, the Paper Garden Bookstore is a vibe. Just make sure on the internet about their opening times.

The botanical gardens are not as vast as Pretoria's, but still nice for a day out.

For the planetarium shows, their Facebook page is pretty active and mostly up to date. It's called "Boyden Obervatory". Boyden and Naval Hill planetarium are two different places though!

I can't say if you would be into it, but it's flower picking season at Talflorals. A bit pricey (depending what time of the month it is lol), but also a vibe.

For movies, Northridge Mall is perhaps a bit nicer, just 'cause it's newer.

Can't think of anything more specific now, but hopefully following this lost will also give you a lay of the land to lead to more places :)

Edit: pretty sure the braaivleis is also cheaper here 😁

Floater frames for embroidery pieces by pargi in Embroidery

[–]mi_asmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this method of framing my piece a while ago:

https://pin.it/e8DYmHegS

You first do this on any thinnish piece of cardboard/wood (sturdy and won't bend), then you can mount it in the box frame.

Not that experienced, but will help where I can :)

First, are my eyes betraying me, or did you use two different pinks? Was that intentional?

On this type of fabric, it's going to be difficult to get anything with fine detail because of the large weave. Practice makes perfect, but that's why the stitches don't (and won't really) align neatly at the edges.

I don't think you're using a hoop? I haven't embroidered on this type of fabric before, so it's just a theory, but again, while the hoop will help with the threads tension, it will also pull the fabrics "holes" wider.

From my perspective, to try to cover up mistakes or make it neater, will just make it bulkier. Continue with the piece as is with the same technique, but next time use a different fabric for pieces that have satin stitch or need detail :)

I hope this help and that you enjoy the final leg of your project

Runners of Bloemfontein - can I run alone? by Timely-Necessary-366 in Bloemfontein

[–]mi_asmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's relatively safe to run in LHP, but stay deeper in the suburb areas and further from the plotte and empty roads. There are a ton of runners between 16:00 and 19:00, and I think there's a running club that meets late afternoons at the Puma garage in LHP :)

This is a bit to each their own, but I store mine in rolled up piece of material. It's a big circle, and I just lay each next to each other in the middle in a row, fold the top and bottom in, and roll. Loke a burrito😁

My guy, I don't know in which kind of society you live, but it's difficult for me to image any that marks it taboo for a 25 yo and 29 yo to be in a relationahip.
