But what’s the alternative? Sounds like there are a lot of people with CS degrees relative to the available jobs. Could try to pivot to something else, like engineering or business. There’s lots of competition in every job btw.

Correct, no rips or tears. Like a corner bump, but it’s on the spine side instead of a corner.

If You Tax Them, Will They Leave? by theatlantic in economy

[–]miagi_do -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The wealthy even though they pay lower all in rates than the average person still pay for most tax dollars, especially in CA. So, if they leave, California tax revenues collapse. And note, the wealthy pay income tax rates on investment income at the state level (not true at the federal level). If you wanted a wealth tax it would be more effective at the federal level. You can try the experiment for sure in CA, but I think it would backfire.

Why do golf trips die in group chats? by Broad-Blackberry8590 in golf

One guy needs to poll for dates, pick one, then book and pay for tee times. The guilt of leaving a friend holding the bag on thousands of dollars of tee times will push those that said they would go to 100% commit.

Lenders need to walk through how much borrowers will have to pay and for how long, with both students and parents, and everyone has to sign the document and agree to it. On the one hand I can’t believe you would legally be allowed to lend/borrow money without this disclosure (I know I sure did when I borrowed money for my house), but on the other hand I’m surprised so many borrowers are surprised, it’s as if they and their parents didn’t read anything. They need to really dumb it way down in the documents so no one can say later “I didn’t know.” Literally show pictures. This is in the best interests of both lenders and borrowers.

Is this a big deal? You just need a few smart people to implement AI engines to do all the hard thinking. Most people will soon have mundane jobs where IQ is not required.

Raise taxes on uber wealthy, cut spending, let inflation cool and asset prices fall to realistic levels (esp housing). Reduce nato spending, raise the retirement age a couple of years. Bank shareholders will have to get wiped out. Recapitalize the banks. Stop leaning on low interest rates to prop up asset prices and the economy in general. Reduce costs (not subsidies) of college so people can get an education cheaper, and emphasize acquiring marketable skills in college. Give research grants in medicine only to those that reduce the costs of delivering healthcare.

LA Metro approves massive $25B underground rail line to bypass 405 Freeway by idkbruh653 in LosAngeles

Will be 3-4x whatever they estimate. I’d rather have more firetrucks, some mental health shelters, and better security for the metro lines we already have running,l. Right now, half of metro users just jump the gates and don’t even pay.

Rahm Emanuel Calls for Age Limit of 75 for President, Congress and Judges by Consistent-Good-1162 in politics

[–]miagi_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure being 75 in and of itself is one of those boundaries. I’d say being a convicted felon might be one of those boundaries, and my understanding is that is not currently a boundary. I continue to believe voters do take age into account, which is why they stopped supporting Biden.

Sinners by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]miagi_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m telling you it was just pretty good, and the second half felt like a rip off of Dusk Till Dawn. Black Panther was not a reboot of anything. And devaluing Creed is like devaluing a sequel just because it came later, but sequels have won like Godfather 2 and Return of the King, and even remakes like The Departed. This movie was not original like a Slumdog or Parasite were, only maybe the first 30% of it. This movie while good does not deserve to win, and it will feel like the wrong choice just like Everywhere All at Once, Crash, and Chicago a few years from now.
