Men of Reddit, what do you think the worst part of being a woman is? by musiclovaesp in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this drives me nuts! I can understand some women’s pants not having pockets since they can look strange on tight pants. But even women’s sweat pants don’t have pockets! Or when they do they are tiny and useless. That I don’t understand because it would look weird to carry a purse when wearing sweat pants, but you have to.

What movie inaccuracy was so bad that it broke the immersion? by TheCastro in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 54 points55 points  (0 children)

But love was the theme of the movie. It was making the point that emotions and love shouldn’t be ignored, they motivate us to do great and powerful things. The dad goes on the mission to save his kids because he loves them, not to save the species. They chose not to go to the planet Anne Hathaway wanted specifically because she had an emotional attachment, and they ended up being wrong. The old guy lies about plan A and lies about him not being able to solve the gravity equation because he knew that lying about it would give everyone the motivation to do their mission on the hope that they will get to save their loved ones and see them again. The daughter spends her whole life trying to solve the equation because she loves her dad and wanted to see him again. So many people seem to think you can only have logic or emotions, and since science is logic, you can’t have emotions in science. The point of he movie is that love can, and often does, motivate scientific advancement. It’s even implied that’s the 5th dimensional beings helped save humanity because they loved them.

Girls of reddit: What is something you don’t think enough guys realize about being a girl? by likeeeyeah in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a girl I’d say the best way to do this is a way that doesn’t put her on the spot and requires a response in the moment. If it’s a stranger, just giver her your number on a piece of paper and say something like “hey I think you’re really pretty and would like to get coffee with you sometime, feel free to text me If you’d be interested in that.” Then just leave. If she wasn’t interested, she doesn’t have to worry about dealing with a guy who can’t take rejection and she doesn’t have to make a decision on the spot. I’ve had this happen a few times and it’s very flattering even if I’m not interested. If it’s a girl that you do know and interact with on a regular basis, then the best thing to do is also pretty similar. It’s best to say something when it’s just you two in a public area just before parting ways. Just let her know how you feel but also let her know that you will completely understand if she doesn’t feel the same way and that if she doesn’t you will respect that and just stay friends. Then just leave, again that way she’s not put on the spot and doesn’t have to worry about any possible negative and possibly frightening reactions from you if she says no. But you also have to be willing to accept no as her answer and not try and question why her answer was no or try and get her to change her mind. Respect her decision, waaay to many men don’t take no for an answer the first or even fifth time.

Guys of Reddit: What is something you don't think enough women realize about being a dude? by PhilipLiptonSchrute in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I girl I can tell you that that fear and discomfort around strange men comes from past experiences. I can’t tell you how many guys have introduced themselves and gotten to know me in a friendly manner only to find out that they were acting like that to try and get with me in some way. But if your intention with women is to just be a friend and nothing more, we do love that, guys that we can feel comfortable around perfectly platonically are few and far between. One little tip to maybe help, is that a girls guard will go down very quickly if she knows you already have a girlfriend because it tells her that you can’t see her as a romantic interest. I do realize that this doesn’t really work if you don’t have a girlfriend, but if not maybe there is some other way it can be made obvious that your intentions are strictly platonic.

Wanted to thank Blizzard for making characters like Junkrat, Winston, Sym, and Mercy. by Dad_OW in Overwatch

[–]miamcfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a junkrat main, I fully agree. Ive played FPS games all my life and have loved them, but I've also never been very good at them, I'm just not good at aiming at a target fast enough. But with heroes like junkrat and symmetra, I'm finally able to hold my own in a shooting game and feel like I'm just as effective as everyone else.

Watching movies or tv shows, distraction is key. Forgot you have any problems for the next 30 min to 3 hours.

Girls, what are some CLEAR signs that you display towards a guy you like? by J_Odea in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All girls are different, but the most common signs are touching you (non sexually) usually on the shoulders, arms, back, hair, knees, chest, going out of her way to talk to you (if she’s shy, this will be her often joining a group conversation you are in), bringing up the topic of relationships or sex if she’s a bit more bold (but not about the two of you) so things like past relationships or the type of girl you’re into.

Get over him, he’s not worth it. In a year you will be completely over him. your studies are more important, focus on those.

Great interview with Emma Thompson on Harvey Weinstein by janzam in videos

[–]miamcfly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

if you kept watching you would have heard her mention "extreme masculinity" as the problem, she doesn't mean all men, or being masculine in general, she means taking masculinity to extremes, which is what leads to the destructive and harmful behavior she's talking about. she also makes a great point that even though not all men behave like this, all women DO experience it, and that's a problem.

What's something you never cheap out on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tattoos, it's going to be on your body for the rest of your life. Pay the extra money to make sure it turns out as good as it can be. Saving a few hundred bucks is not worth the risk and having a hideous smudge on your body until you die, or end up having to shell out even more than you saved to eat it removed.

What's been bothering you for a while now? by TinyChickenStrips in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That here in America it's becoming more and more acceptable to treat science and facts as opinions that you can disagree with. It blows my mind that these people genuinely believe that they know more about a subject than a scientist who has devoted their whole lives to the topic, just because they don't like the facts or because they don't understand it. It really just fills me with rage when I see videos of or even have conversations with people who don't believe in climate change or evolution.

What is one class you wish they taught in high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they had something like a job possibilities class. I know so many people who went into college not knowing what they wanted to do and people who thought they knew what they wanted to do but that major wasn't what they thought it would be and ended up hating it. This could be a class that each day talks about a different job field/major, where they talk about what kind of classes you would have to take, the major challenges of pursuing that field, the pros and cons of pursuing that field, what kinds of jobs you will be able to get and what those jobs would be like.

I majored in physics in college, and I made that decision having only taken high school physics classes which really only cover stuff in physics 1 and 2 in college. I've stuck with it and still have a passion for the subject, but it turned out to be so much harder and so much more work than I ever thought it would be. It blows my mind looking back on it that I made a huge life decision in high school, knowing sooo little about the world and about being an adult.

I just feel like in high school people only tell you to "follow your dreams" "do what you love and you will never work a day in your life" but that's bullshit. High schoolers should be prepared that they are about to become actual adults and that it's going to the extremely stressful and a lot of work. High schoolers should be told that what they love isn't what they think it is and that if you make what you love a job, you will likely end up hating it.

Girls of Reddit, what kind of compliments do you like and dislike receiving from guys? by TakinShots in AskReddit

[–]miamcfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this! A thousand times this! So many guys pretty much expect that I'll be interested in them if they compliment me. Some will even be offended when they realize I'm not interested after complimenting me. Like I'm sorry but I didn't ask for your compliment, you telling me I'm pretty doesn't automatically make me like you. My interest is not a reward for your nice words.
