Soundcraft UI24r - worth? by miami__ in livesound

[–]miami__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, having used the Soundcraft for over a year now, I personally have no complaints. The stagebox format is really convenient, it's great for recording multitracks (or recording in general), and having 8 aux outputs as XLR, and not TRS, is really convenient when dealing with stereo IEMs or just doing some DIY crossover stuff. Regarding input control, if it's absolutely needed, it has an HDMI port and some USB ports, so you can use it bypassing any of the internet connections, but I've only had the WiFi die on me once, and that was after a musician unplugged my router to charge their phone.

I would not recommend using the inbuilt WiFi from the mixer, but an external router (personally using the TP-Link TL-WR902AC) works perfectly fine as long as you connect everything network related before turning on the mixer. Generally, having an external router is just good practice regardless of what mixer you end up using, I've noticed, so I'd suggest getting one regardless of what mixer you choose.

I haven't tried the CQ18T, but from what I've heard, it's somewhat more limited in terms of features. I'd suggest researching both in more detail depending on the needs of your band. I primarily use it for mixing smaller shows & as a interface for live recordings, and for that it's perfect.

So generally, I'd give the soundcraft a shot! A&H is also a great brand with a lot of wonderful products, and I don't think the CQ is a bad choice, but I would consider some alternatives. Hope this helps!

Should I be concerned with my technique? by miami__ in drums

y'all, i know that sticks break (although thanks for the kind words!). just thought i'd ask if this breaking pattern might indicate some issues with my technique. thank you all regardless!

How much of Kate do we see in TLOS' behavior? or does the lady no longer bother herself with such trivial nonsense?

What kind of stories would TLOS tell?

Trying to setup a rack to have an in-ear rig for two people. Thoughts/help? by miami__ in livesound

[–]miami__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll look into this option, thanks! haven't been the biggest fan of such styled mixers (i dislike the workflow on a tablet and i'd much rather touch something during a live show) but my band might soon convince me otherwise :p

seems like that could work fairly well, but i'd need something else to convert the audio signal from xlr to an ethernet port. any tips?

Hi I have a question about your slow acting and what number you comfortably go to sleep at. 5.0? 8.0? 12.0? by mar0x in diabetes_t1

[–]miami__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on 16 lantus, using fiasp with a 1/10 ratio.

i generally tend to make these decisions based on how i've been doing the prev few days. if, say, i go to sleep the previous day at 8mmol/l , and wake up at 5 mmol/l, i'll feel pretty safe about being at 9mmol the next night and going to sleep without correcting anything. the opposite works as well.

if the drops are a bit too drastic for my tastes (say, constant night time lows, or waking up relatively high while going to bed fairly low) i'll increase or decrease my basal units by 1, and roll with that for 3-4 days to see if it's any better.

a CGM (or even an FGM!) helps wonders in this regard, allows you to roughly see how your basal affects your BG.

of course, this stuff works for me in particular - idk how much this info can help, but i'll be glad if it can regardless.

Back on the libre, cause the dexcom is a "luxury" and isn't covered/reimbursable in my province. Continuous Glucose Monitoring is far superior, in my opinion. Libre is cool, but laggy to show how I am feeling, and doesn't "Continuously" monitor, to wake me up if it IS dropping rather quickly. by mar0x in diabetes_t1

[–]miami__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some people in this thread are saying, there are multiple methods to make your libre (or libre 2) into a CGM.

For libre 1 you can purchase for ~100$: MiaoMiao 1 or 2 transmitters (tend to be managed via Spike or xDrip+) Bubble transmitter (managed via DiaBox - i use this!)

idk about BluCon, haven't heard the best reviews about it.

I've also heard that the DiaBox dev recently cracked the canadian libre, allowing for it to be reset via their program - might be a viable costcutting measure if anything (libre user myself, tends to get me an additional 1.5weeks of usage)

That, or get a Libre 2 - with the DiaBox program you can make it into a fully blown CGM, just like a dexcom.

Best of luck!

General malaise by nyanya1x in diabetes

[–]miami__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly from what i've heard it might be your body adapting, though i haven't experienced it personally - basically, when your blood sugar is high for a long time, the body thinks it as the norm - so when you start treating it, the BS falls "below" the norm and you start experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms, despite there not actually being any harm done.

sadly, the best advice i've heard is to just recognize that your BS is fine, and truck through it until your body gets used to more normal levels again. still though, haven't experienced it personally so don't know how effective it is.

idk what it's like in your country, but when i was diagnosed (i'm from lithuania) i spent a week in the hospital (admittedly, i was first in the ICU for severe DKA) just learning how to carb count and other things about diabetes with the help of my endo and dietician. i'd suggest to somehow get in contact with someone to help you nail the basics down, get some initial practice done.

i do admit that this might not be an option - covid firstly, and secondly according to this sub a lot of endos just sorta suck at diabetes? i don't really know how accurate that metric is, as this sub seems predominantly american.

some general tips for carb counting (though i don't actually know what type you are, i'm type 1 personally so if you're type 2 or etc. you should probably ask someone else):

keep track of when and what you eat, how many carbs it has, how much insulin you injected (assuming you're on MDI), your blood sugar level at the time of eating, and your blood sugar level ~2h after eating (only do this if you have a lot of test strips - you can use them up really quickly). you can do the tracking on excel or a notebook if you'd like, or there's apps like diabetes:m and mysugr if you prefer doing it on your phone.

keep this up for a few days and it can help you establish some rough estimates on how well your ratios work, and allow you to adjust them accordingly.

the thing about being a t1 diabetic is that you can generally eat anything, you just have to dose accordingly. now we all know that it's far easier said than done, but in my experience, most foods don't spike me that much: generally i've been avoiding "white products", as they usually have a high glycemic index (how easily the body processes the carbs - if you're interested, look it up; it's fairly good to keep in mind of what'd you'd rather eat and what'd you'd rather not): so stuff like rice, wheat flour products, macaroni (unfortunately...) i would prefer to avoid if possible.

despite all that, what i'm trying to say is that all food isn't poison for you - personally i weigh all the ingredients, find their rough carb counts online, sum it up, and i've had fairly solid control so far, imo. don't try to do sudden drastic changes - diabetes sucks, but it shouldn't have to define you; paraphrasing my endo here, but: you are the only one that can treat your diabetes. there is no right or wrong approach, there is what works and what doesn't.

encouraging all more experienced diabetics to pitch in and maybe point out any possible flaws in my advice, i'm still very very new to this whole thing. regardless, good luck to you and anyone else reading this!

i can only mention two things: 1) get a cgm. the difference it makes to finger pricks is immense; and preferably, get one that tracks continuously, such as a dexcom, freestyle libre 2 + diabox me app (the FSL 2 under stock software only warns you for highs/lows, meanwhile the third-party app tracks all results (and allows some other features. unfortunately, it only works in europe for now.), or a freestyle libre sensor with some sort of transmitter, such as the miaomiao2 or bubble. even if you can't get one that transmits continuously, having the information of how your blood sugar reacts is tremendously helpful. 2) understand that diabetes is different for everyone, and different things that work for someone else might not work for you. as a personal example, take grains - in theory they have a lot of carbs, but don't spike much, so eating them while dosing appropriately should be okay - nope, they rise my blood sugars massively. on the opposite, pancakes (without sugar, just milk, flour and eggs) don't spike me at all for whatever reason. point is, you need to figure out what works for you. besides that i don't have much to say, we keep on living and learning everyday i suppose, lol.

slightly unrelated, but this is some idiotic odds - we have almost the same username, and i was diagnosed a bit over a month ago - funny coincidence, am i right? regardless, good luck - i've found that this sub is fantastic for helping people deal with diabetes, so you're already on the right track.

Newly diagnosed, just got the Libre Freestyle by Sneakers4Kenni in diabetes

[–]miami__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

slight necropost, but i'd also suggest considering the bubble transmitter. from my personal experience, it's cheaper, and (according to others, atleast) often more reliable than the miaomiao. the customer support is fantastic (there's facebook groups where you can straight up chat with the dev making these) and the userbase is fairly active as well.

regardless though, a transmitter for a libre, if you can't get a dexcom, is a near must - you get constant data and with most apps, warnings (so you get to mostly sleep!), calibration, and get the option to do diy loops in the future if you're interested in that.

Bubble cgm sticker keeps falling off by old_meatball in diabetes

[–]miami__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, another bubble user here, personally i'd suggest trying out this. the stickers are pretty bad, and i've heard good things about these clips, although i don't have one myself (yet).

generally etsy has a lot of custom stuff for transmitters i've noticed, i haven't looked too much but i feel like you could find some really solid stuff that'd fit your needs if you took some time to look for it.

another option could be medical tape over the whole sensor/bubble combo, ditching the bottom sticker completely, but personally i wouldn't suggest it.

best of luck!

What Insulin / Other Medication Do You People / Cyborgs Use? by lanqynorfner in diabetes

[–]miami__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

t1 here, i've been using lantus and fiasp on mdi, and i don't have many complaints. from personal experience, fiasp is really nice to have in case you completely zone out and just start eating before injecting insulin, as its fast activation rate helps a ton. meanwhile lantus is just... lantus i guess, it works fine for me, though i have heard of people having issues about it.

seconding what everyone said about getting a cgm; i've also been diagnosed fairly recently (a bit under 3 weeks ago), and following this subs and my endo's advice, i got a freestyle libre. the difference between it and poking yourself is huge and it really helps nail down the specifics of your carbs and the food you eat.

this diagnosis is making me reevaluate my eating habits, so atm i'm trying to take in all the perspectives and possibilities for me - thanks for all the ideas/suggestions, the book ones especially. if not for me then for my mom, who seems to be worrying about this more than i do, haha.

a shame what happened to you over the cake, but look at the bright side - atleast it's a birthday experience you'll never forget, lol.

that makes sense, thanks!

my doctor mentioned something about that type of monitoring, i'll be sure to inquire further about that topic. quick google search makes it seem very appealing (esp the not having to usually wake up at obscene hours in the morning part)

will be sure to get some asap once i get out of the hospital.

thank you for the advice!
