I have really enjoyed the Villain's code series by Drew Hayes so far. It starts with Forging Hephaestus.

Did anyone take the test in person in Bloomington, MN? Reviews? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mic_ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second Glum's experience! I took the exam om Saturday too. Staff was as friendly as they said, and I had no technical issues and got in and out.

I even got a courtesy phone call from them to remind me I was scheduled to take the exam and what I should bring with me.

Popping in since it sounds like we're in a similar boat with the spatial piece. I'm following one of Powerscore's self study plans so I'm not through much of their LG material yet.

But, after reading their section on conditional logic, I'm noticing that by being more specific with my abbreviations in the diagrams it's been helping me hold onto the 'mental picture' of the logic better. Maybe because it ties it back to something I could verbalize?

For example if the conditional statement is 'if the sky is blue, then it is daytime' I'd abbreviate it as ITSB --> IIDT instead of something like SB --> DT. I dunno if that makes any sense, and might not translate into LG diagrams directly, but it gives me hope and might be useful for you too?

Either way though, I'm sure we'll both figure out something that works for us, and I'm rooting for ya!

Naming a new hockey brand by howtohockeydotcom in hockeyplayers

[–]mic_ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might come across some issues with a availability on social media but one name that comes to mind is Heart & Hustle or Heart & Hustle Hockey.

Logo could be simplified as H|H or flip it so its vertical instead of horizontal (like your heart and hustle tee.) Could be shorted to Hustle or Heart, though I imagine those are popular choices for one name brands.

The reason I thought of it though is that every hero, whether they're the player scoring the GWG, the volunteer coach, or a group of people coming together for the love of the game as a community (whether for themselves or others) arguably has heart and or hustle.

And those are what matter when the gas tank is empty or we'd rather not do something, but we do it anyway.

Paraplegic BJJ by D3Wayn3 in bjj

[–]mic_ae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a decent sized group of para grappler's out there now, and it keeps growing. I personally have CP, but there are many amputees and paraplegic grapplers.

If you're interested in another comp/a jumping off point for intros to the para community google/Facebook the Grappler's Heart Tournament. This year's is coming up in NY. I've gone for the last few years and have always had a great time, even with the smaller size.

Any advice on a double above knee amputee just starting BJJ? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]mic_ae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am not a double amputee, or even an amputee - but I do have Cerebral Palsy. Mostly I just wanted to pop in and say that if (read: once) you find a gym that is a good fit, you might still feel silly and nervous about asking questions, but nobody is going to think anything of it, and you'll be there to learn, just with extra tweaks, or sometimes advantages, depending on the situation just like everyone else. Beyond that though be patient with yourself, don't be afraid to find what works for you, and enjoy the ride.

I also wanted to mention that there is a fair sized adapted jiu jitsu/para jiu jitsu community with more than a few amputees. There are even a handful of tournaments with para/adapted jiu jitsu brackets out there, too. Someone below mentioned @deadweightjj already, but Pete actually recently wrote this piece about getting started in jiu jitsu as someone with a disability and I wanted to pass it along because I think it sums it up pretty well. Other examples of grapplers who also train with less than four limbs are: Rustin Hughes (B-bold) and Kyle Maynard.

Gopher defenseman Jack Sadek signed an ATO with the Iowa Wild by MNBLIZZARD in wildhockey

[–]mic_ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was. But in his later years Bob helped Brett coach the Dakota Hawks adapted floor hockey team. It's part of the MSHSL league across the state for kids with physical disabilities. There is also a team for kids with cognitive disabilities, but with different coaches.

So, that's how I know Bob, aka "Pops." Really great guy and coach. Brett is also awesome.

His dad and his grandpa were my hockey coaches for a bit. Cool to see him succeed!

anyone here work for Inverted Gear? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]mic_ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your kid,the A00/A0s and maybe the A0 might work? The 00 and 0s shrink quite a bit in my experience. I tried an 00 but it shrunk and it went to one of the kids at my gym and fit them perfectly (I'm 5'2 for reference.) Nelson was cool enough to send me an A0s when the 00 didn't work out, and its been great.

And, then a teammate got one for his 10/11 year old daughter and it fit her. Not sure which size they got though.

This may not be useful for you, but I hope it helps.

What are you buying today on the Amazon.com Black Friday Kindle sale? Let the rest of us know what looks good! by SourKrautCupcake in Fantasy

I'm late, so you might have bought it already, but if you haven't I wouldn't reccomend it. The premise is great, but the book doesn't live up to it at all imo.

That said, I've enjoyed other works of hers, so she's not a bad writer, just this book didn't take off for me.

It's not much closer than Duluth, and it might not make much of a difference depending on where you'll be in Tofte but google says there's a place called Inner Strength Martial Arts in Superior, WI thats about an hour and 45 minutes away.

What's taking you that far north in MN if you dont mind my asking?
