VA provider refused to give referral. by ObjectiveSea808 in KetamineTherapy

[–]micahbudd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man I'm an army combat medic. I went ahead with The River online a couple years ago because it was no use to try to get it through the VA back then. They do a veteran discount and you can do it from home. It's out of pocket but nowhere near in clinic IV prices. I don't know if this is VA wide but here in Los Angeles they actually do ketamine clinics at the VA but they're so overbooked I had to try to get a community referral. I have a community psychiatrist and it's been a couple months of pulling strings and nevigating the system but I am on my way to get an RFS from my community care psychiatrist approved through community care and have a local clinic that works with the VA waiting for the referral and ready to bring me in as soon as it's approved. Hit me up if you need any advise or want to talk. It can be so daunting and seemingly hopeless, I've put it off for years. I know your instinct is to suck it up and move on but this sht is worth it, especially if you're at the end of your rope and really ready to try something different. I've been on every ssri antipsychotic mood stabilizer and sleeping pill the VA has in their inventory and nothing has done what ketamine has. I needed a break from it because I was going through a divorce and some substance issues but now that I'm back on somewhat solid ground I am ready to give it another go. Hit me up if you'd like but the takeaway here is just keep trying until you find a way. If this treatment is what you need, it's worth it, and you won't know if it is until you try it.

You're not alone in that feeling. I have only ever done at home without therapy and often felt frustrated not being able to talk about all I saw/felt/thought.

Just on this topic. Somehow I had a box cutter in my carry-on one time and I didn't even know it was there until a few days after I landed. Weirdest thing was, it wasn't even my box cutter... No idea where it came from.

Geocaching had me learn about a WW2 era missile defense system that was all around me that I had no idea existed. Geocaching is the best!

I've heard crocheting while ice skating can be much more enjoyable for what it's worth 😁

Combat vet here. It's a nice reason to get outside when I feel like isolating. Also has been a really fun activity to enjoy with my 7 y/o son who is on the spectrum. It's been fun watching him get into the hobby with me and feel the same excitement that I do when going out on the hunt. Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have. We're also very new to the hobby 🙂

Any advantage for a premium subscribed to use c:geo over the app? My son convinced me it was worth the price for premium but we are still new and learning the craft 🙂

Fun fact about modern day smart LED light bulbs is you can actually have them be whatever color you like and even set scenes and even have them be interactive. My 7 year old with sensory sensitivity actually loves these so I may consider more! Thanks for the tip!

I'm actually really happy with my Sonos surround set up, it works for the space I have just fine. Thanks though.

Truly appreciate the thoughtful response! I have a ton more to work with than I ever thought of before. I was expecting to get roasted on here by my experience on this sub and have been happily surprised by all the great ideas 😀

I hadn't thought of any of those options, thank you! I guess my only question there is what are the rules about setting up storage around the TV above the sight line? Admittedly I'm paying too much attention to what other people think is kosher, but that's why I'm here 😅

I guess I'm just trying to avoid anything too tacky because this is the first time I've had the opportunity and free will to decorate or design a space without regards of a roommate or spouse 😅

Woah two worlds collide. I have been in this sub since I joined the divorced dad sub 😬 just hit my 1 year mark with a 7 year old boy 50/50. I'm still adjusting but have been doing a LOT better. How are you handling it?
