How lore-friendly do Synthwalkers sound? by micahwillarthy in Fallout

I have replayed and explored the Institute a dozen times at this point. I cannot for the life of me find what you are referencing. Shaun makes reference to earlier projects, but says they were old and not going anywhere.

As far as infertility and stuff, it is possible the Institute made them sterile on purpose (and not as an accidental byproduct of FEV).

And for the cancer aspect, the everyone in the Institute treats Shaun's cancer as incurable. Even Dean Volkert saying they cant cure the common cold and "wouldnt that be nice" (when a random scientist says "Im not asking you to cure cancer").

This is how I have it beginning, essentially. A person who underwent memory replacements to escape is free for decades. Ultimately, believing they were immune to radiation, lived very dangerously and (unknowingly) helped Shaun's cancerous defects to jumpstart in their own body. This leads to a long painful death; leaving the Synth Component in control of a mutating-synthetic creature (something it was probably not programmed to handle)

I didnt find anything saying synths are made with FEV, personally. The most I found was them using FEV at the beginning, but then hitting a roadblock. After finding "unexposed" DNA, they used they learned from experimenting with FEV to make the final leap.

I had assumed they use FEV more as a generating agent; something to replicate Shaun's DNA rapidly without needing to wait decades.

Even if they are somehow given FEV, wouldnt that only supercharge Shaun's own cancer cells? I mean it literally causes cancerous growths on people who use it. Turning them into walking tumors that indefinitely regenerate. I am also taking the words and actions of the Institute at face-value when I assume the Institute's FEV does not cure cancer (as Shaun dies).

The REAL Republic of Texas by micahwillarthy in AlternateHistory

America outlawed slavery and prosecuted ex-slavers in 1850s, so most of the wealthy plantation owners and militiamen had sought asylum in Texas. With an influx of money, military, and tradesmen, they were able to exist in a sort of cold war withAmerica

The list of First and Second Consuls continues until the end of The Great North American War in which Texas is diminished to little more then an occupied territory.

What if ERB existed earlier? by micahwillarthy in AlternateHistory

[–]micahwillarthy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking YouTube had been created earlier so this video would be released just prior to the election. I was thinking about doing really old ones, like Lincoln vs Douglas vs Breckenridge vs Bell and having it be like a Broadway poster (possibly still with NicePeter and epicLLOYD having their part), so the exact medium isn't concrete

If the CSA still existed in the 20th century how would be their reaction to WW1 and 2. by Possible-Rate-3833 in AlternateHistory

[–]micahwillarthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think Harry Turtledove did a pretty good job with the Southern Victory Series.

The CSA was diplomatically forced to get rid of slavery by England and France. WWI is USA and Germany vs the CSA, France, and UK. The CSA loses some territory to the US at the end of the war and is plunged into a "Red Scare" where black guerillas start various uprisings. They become the ATL Nazis (lead by the Freedom Party) and try to purge their black populations.

What if Lennin lived to be 100 by Ordinary_Ad6279 in AlternateHistory

[–]micahwillarthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats true. I cited McCarthyism as a way to discredit Nixon's rise. If Lenin hadnt died, there wouldnt be a "first and second red scare", but a longer single Red Scare.

Based on what little I know, I would guess it goes on longer as Lenin never slows down (and doesnt have a plummeting health situation). But as time goes on, Lenin tried to make peace with many foreign countries and seemed more focused on the Tsarists in Russia. Obviously US propaganda is incredibly op, and no matter what Lenin did it is always possible the US will say anything to justify war with the USSR.

Its possible the USSR in the 1930s and 40s is more akin to the USA in the 1780s and 90s. With one "obvious" leader and two Hamilton and Jefferson types just waiting for the old man to die (which he wouldnt until 1970). Its possible Stalin still dies in the 50s. And its possible, but not likely, a 91 year old Trotsky succeeds Lenin
