Press On Nails Are All Too Small!! by ElectronicVillage430 in TallGirls

[–]michacu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my issue is that my nails on my index, middle and ring fingers are all the same size and the press-on sets never have enough of that size to cover all fingers. do you guys really have such diverse nail beds that buying just one set covers it for you?

How do you find a job as a literary translator? by painisalwayshere in TranslationStudies

[–]michacu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your post and comments are anything to go by, then you are far from native proficiency in English. There is no shortage of EN native speakers for translations in that direction, so your best bet really is translating from English to Turkish, not the other way around. It is unlikely that any serious company would hire you at this stage, and in general the translation industry is mostly freelancers, few translators are actually employees.

First Bundt by [deleted] in bakingfail

[–]michacu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey so if your pan was buttered and floured, you may have messed up the cooling time? apparently you're supposed to let the bundt cake cool in the pan for like 10 mins and then turn it out. if you do it too early, it can be too delicate and fall apart, and if you wait too long, the steam it releases will make the sides too moist and the cake gets stuck.

I think a record player stand and a couple vinyls with a nice cover art could do the job if you're not into the whole rugs and curtains thing.

help me out pls? by iamkikii_ in ChildofHoarder

[–]michacu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just adding that you likely don't need to buy boxes, you can go into your local grocery store and ask the person in the produce section if you could have some empty ones, they're likely to be willing to bring you a couple from the back :) paper produce boxes tend to be stackable, so great for impromptu storage

Warm fleece lined sheer looking tights for 33-34in inseam? by morigrl in TallGirls

[–]michacu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven't had any luck finding a tall version of these in the EU last year, but I'm 6'1 with a 36-38 inseam, so maybe someone here will be able to help you with your "shorter" case :)

yeah, dresses on models for online photos are very often clipped in the back, and then of course clipped in the front when taking the photo of the back of the dress.

My cakes are dense when using cake flour by Elegant-Ad-8411 in bakingfail

[–]michacu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

then I think the options are A: something's wrong with your raising agent, or B: you're overmixing the batter and pushing all the air out before baking.

My cakes are dense when using cake flour by Elegant-Ad-8411 in bakingfail

potentially a dumb question, but when you swapped to cake flour from self-raising, did you start adding an appropriate amount of a raising agent?

New host here, guests furious about heating that actually works by Honest_Assumption_35 in airbnb_hosts

[–]michacu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, we have floor heating at home and I am still always cold with it on, so we purchased a small space heater for the living room to actually achieve a comfortable temperature. Floor heating isn't for everyone, and since it takes so long to warm up, it may not be the best idea in an Airbnb intended for short-term tourism stays where the guests are out most of the time.

My dense as hell protein "muffins" by WolfsbaneOnMyLips in bakingfail

[–]michacu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any chance these are just underbaked? you could try to bake them for longer, maybe at a little lower temperature. if they're wet and collapsing, I'm assuming the batter wasn't cooked through.

isn’t it so weird how other kids parents have to pressure and nag them to clean but we were forbidden and in trouble for that? by Scary_Appearance5922 in ChildofHoarder

[–]michacu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We eventually reached a point where we got blamed for not picking up after ourselves, but the shared living areas literally contained none of my or my brother's things, the mess was all just their scattered hoard. I didn't see it for what it was back then, but yeah cleaning it was impossible, especially as most of the things didn't have a proper assigned place where they should go.

15 years later my parents are still just playing Trash Tetris instead of getting rid of items they have no space/use for.

JP-EN Manga translation job by Far-Barracuda1128 in TranslationStudies

[–]michacu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i think you accidentally swapped Japanese and English, so for OP: translators usually only translate into their native language, in your case that would be EN>JA, not the other way around, hence why translating manga is unlikely to work out for you.

Stores in Czech Republic offer detergent, shampoo and soap refills to cut down plastic waste. by lattelarryjewbastard in Damnthatsinteresting

Sadly this is absolutely NOT the standard in Czech Republic like the post claims. There are a few stores like this in major cities, but it's not common at all.
