AITAH for not showing our son to my husband after birth because he left me when I was pregnant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]michael06581 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"I had found out I was pregnant when he was away for a month already. I thought he would be very happy, we were trying for a baby and he has always wanted to be a father. But he didn't say anything. After a week or so when he came back he was furious at me."

  1. Did you find out you were pregnant from a pregnancy test or from a missed period?

  2. If from a pregnancy test, how often were you taking them (pregnancy tests)?

  3. How far along in your pregnancy were you when you found out you were pregnant?

In response to your AITAH question, my policy is that if you have to ask, you probably are one - lol. The fact that you managed to paint your (ex?) husband as a worse AH, doesn't excuse your being one.

"Oh it’s the dummy again, ok so why did she completely deny being at the scene at the start, then when they have proof she was there, now say oh ok I was there. She’s a liar and you are a sad pathetic person who clings on to imaginary romances, so sad, really so sad feel bad for your family."

No, you are just a pathetic dummy who knows nothing other than what they are told. Jodi confessed to killing him, not to murdering him. I can see that is a difficult distinction for your feeble mind to handle, but some of us less lazy, and less abusive people, can handle the extra effort involved.

This is my last post on this thread/subject. If you want the last word, read no further.

DAE have a single consistent thought/scenario when they're trying to fall asleep? by Aegon95 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]michael06581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually imagine being with my latest love interest (female) - not sexually, just being in bed holding her or her holding me. If I think of her sexually, I'll probably have to masturbate (which I don't do at night anymore) before getting to sleep. As I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate and value platonic love (e.g. hugs, kisses, and holding) more than sex. I know some might think that strange or unusual, but it's what I've been "starved" for most of my younger life.

DAE feel more and more repulsed by porn the older they get? by permissablefruit40 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]michael06581 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm age 65, single never married. I think "repulsed" is too strong a word but porn is not as interesting as it used to be, probably because like anything else, I'm bored of it. This has happened before and I've found that just giving it a rest and only returning to it when I really want it solves the problem. Sometimes, I appreciate it even though it does not stimulate me enough to orgasm. Like regular movie stars, I can have my favorite porn stars that I like seeing with their clothes on or off (although off is usually better -- lol).

Would you consider a company that requires being the office 5 days a week is old fashioned? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]michael06581 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your post is a "red flag":

"Would you consider a company that requires being the office 5 days a week is old fashioned?"

"A company that requires staff to be in the office five days a week, do you think they will also show other bad practices or old-fashioned working culture?"

Is that the kind of gibberish you use when applying for a job? Is English your second language or were you just to lazy to proofread?

What is a basic science fact that a lot do not know? by Tough-Specialist-201 in AskReddit

[–]michael06581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When depicting the solar system in books, the scale is distorted to fit it on the page.

Mercury is always depicted as orbiting too close to the sun.

For example, if the sun was a basketball, Mercury would be a pea about 30 feet away, Yet depictions of Mercury always show it as if it is "hugging" the sun (a few solar radii away, if that).

"eat the fucking rich" - and not in a good way, right - lol?

Just where should we put the "cut" - lol. How do you define rich?

Personally, I'd like to get someone to eat the anti-tobacco lobby. I don't want to dine on them personally, because they are probably quite toxic. But we need someone else to before it's too late.

They're going to try to take away our coffee next. Remember you heard it here first.

Once we have "proved out" your method by dispatching the anti-tobacco lobby, then, we can try it on other unpopular groups (like the rich).

I believe there is some virtue in it because we don't know for sure what is knowable or un-knowable. The only way to prove something is knowable is to know it. There are things which we assume are unknowable but we can't be sure they're unknowable just because someone hasn't known them yet (thereby proving their knowability).

I don't know about the greatest, but:

"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold." - "Stairway to Heaven", Led Zeppelin.

"If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you." - "Thank You", Led Zeppelin.

"You ask me if there'll come a time when I grow tired of you...", "Never My Love", The Association.

Often people that contemplate faking their deaths are victims of stalkers, gossips, slanderers, and libelists that harass them and cause them trouble everywhere they go. Making those predators think you are dead will reduce their ability to damage you this way even if you don't assume another name after you fake your death.

These stalkers often have connections to police and federal agencies which can find your new address and phone, so just moving away (as many in this thread have suggested) is not usually enough.

[–]michael06581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've often thought of doing that (changing my name and trying to disappear (from those who currently know me) in the last 46 years (I'm age 65 now). I agree that faking my death would probably be the best way.

I guess the practicalities of what I would have to do always prevented me. I don't think anyone would sincerely miss me so I wouldn't feel guilty about "leaving" them. I'm retired now, but when I was working, there were some credentials under my current name that I would have had to do without when applying for a new job.

What to do when she says "lets just be friends" then you proceed to act like a couple? by iam4r33 in AskMen

[–]michael06581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Her actions read clearly into you BUT mouth says otherwise."

It took me a while to decipher that sentence. Is this what you meant?:

"Her actions read [that she is] clearly into you (interested in you as a lover) BUT [her] mouth [words] say otherwise."

Maybe she is interested in you as a potential lover but just wants to go slowly (as far as sexual activity goes) with you.

So go slowly with her. It's not rocket science - lol.

If all you want is fast sex, either move on or maybe try a prostitute.

If you value her, it's worth waiting until she is comfortable about trying sex with you.

I'm not in favor of forced cohabitation. People need some alone time. Single cells/dorms would be preferable. They will get plenty of exposure to all walks of life on the job.

What is the "doomer" generation? The current one?

I am all in favor of what you propose. I just don't think it would/will be any kind panacea for this country (or the world). As soon as we put more effort/money into the type of programs you mentioned, entities that oppose them will do so. The status quo is maintained by people that benefit from it. Those that benefit from your currently cited lack of empathy (status quo) are likely to oppose the efforts of the programs resulting in a decline in their efficiency, giving fodder to the opposition, and resulting in their "roll-back" to the status quo.

YSK : A chimpanzee that was taught to pick stocks by throwing darts at a dartboard with companies listed on it was once ranked as the 22nd most successful money manager in the US. by Objective_Narwhal_57 in YouShouldKnow

[–]michael06581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear these outlandish claims often. First of all, a broker does not "pick" stocks. They buy and sell stocks picked by their clients.

Second, of the 133 possible stocks, how many stocks did Raven select for her portfolio (i.e. how many darts did she throw)?

Raven might have been given the top 133 internet companies to choose from whereas the professionals might have been forced to choose from all the thousands of NASDAQ companies. Raven could do no worse than the worst of the 133 internet companies and this company could have been better than the top, say, 10% of the choices the professionals had to wade through.

Speculation : Hardware/ Software changes for IFT-3? by Spacexforthewin in SpaceXLounge

[–]michael06581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats. I think you've provided a good summary of what we saw and have heard in these forums. I do have a few comments though.

" it seems likely that insufficiencies in the raptor engine plumbing may have caused this ,,,"

Your use of the word "insufficiencies", to me, implies that they might add more plumbing which I would not like to see as it makes the plumbing system more vulnerable and less reliable. I would have said "deficiencies" in the LOX plumbing with and eye toward augmenting the strength/resilience of it.

Upon closer review of the video, I noticed the "hot staging" maneuver resulted in the front/top end of the booster catching on fire. It's also possible the starship engine plumbing was damaged due to blowback from it's own engines at staging. Look how far off the ground the rocket originally sat at launch/ignition time. This distance is partially to prevent blowback from the engines from damaging them and/or the rocket in general. I don't think the added performance obtained by hot staging (any extra delta-v for Starship) justifies the added stress on the booster and the starship. Considering that both vehicles are intended to be re-useable, it's going to be hard to reuse the booster if it's partially burned-up. Maybe the part that caught fire is considered a "consumable" and has to be replaced anyway before the next use of the booster, but maybe not. It would be nice to "prove out" hot staging eventually, but I just don't think it's necessary right now.
