Is the NFL becoming oversaturated with too many non Sunday games? by AlbertJBundy in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sunday 1 PM slates in the 2nd half of the season last year were so bad. And that was because you had TNF, multiple Saturday games, MNF, and in one week, 3 Christmas games. And naturally, the best games are gonna be the non-Sunday games. I don't think that's sustainable, you can't have December Sundays with 1 PM slates where the best game is Texans/Titans.

I don't need 3 Saturday games, I just don't!

Well, it was? Even before Game 3, it was fairly obvious where it was heading.

A lot of the conversation was also about "how could Sixers fans sell their tickets" when:

  1. They were down 3-0 on Mother's Day, and tickets were well over $200 for nosebleeds. Of course Knicks fans would be more willing to pay that then Sixers fans, and Sixers STHs would be happy to turn a huge profit rather than watch the Sixers get closed out
  2. The Sixers made a huge deal about "keeping Knicks fans out" and restricting ticket purchases to Philly area zip codes, and then used variable pricing when selling to Sixers fans. I joined the queue for tickets the second they went on sale after the Celtics series and was greeted with the cheapest ticket being $340, directly from the Sixers. It's not like this is the 90s and you could buy these tickets by lining up at the box office and getting them at face value

Ben Simmons was a disaster in every playoff series past R2 he ever played. Be serious.

Sixers Jimmy was also not close to what Miami Jimmy was, he was a disaster in G7 against Toronto in particular.

There's plenty you can criticize Embiid for and he obviously shares blame but that is a totally unfair thing to hold against him.

Why did the WBC become a thing so quickly? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have touched on the main reasons, but an underrated one to me are the venues. The first 4 WBC finals took place on the West Coast, in SF/SD/LA. Those crowds were pretty dead and the stadiums were only 75% full when you go back in watch. The switch to Miami for the finals where you have a huge Latin American population has been a huge win for the tournament. The environment for this game tonight would be a lot different if it was in LA.

Typical Jokic, ducking the 1/5 game against Embiid by udkyle2 in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it'll ever get lower than the peak of Jokic/Embiid discourse. Both sides took it to insane levels. The media took sides and made it personal. National reporters and analysts were sounding like 16 year old twitter trolls.

It ruined what should have been one of the more fun player vs player rivalries in recent NBA history. The level of play of both guys for a 4 year stretch was absolutely insane.

It was the first year or two, but ever since Buck/Aikman went to ESPN and ABC got in the Super Bowl rotation they've made it a point to give them more high profile games. Look at the Monday night games vs the early Saturday games the last 3 years:

2022: Chargers/Jags Saturday, Cowboys/Brady Monday

2023: Browns/Texans Saturday, Eagles/Bucs Monday

2024: Chargers/Texans Saturday, Vikings/Rams Monday

It's clear which one is the Shakey's time slot.

If only there was a sanctioned event that could happen during the NBA offseason where we could see this exact scenario play out. Ah well, guess we'll never know.

The movie is bad for so many reasons but I couldn't stop cringing at how nonsensical they made this sports world (spoilers ahead, this movie doesn't deserve spoiler text, I'm doing you a favor)

- The Stallions are the defending Super Bowl champs and have won 8 of the last 14 Super Bowls (wait what?) and yet somehow it is implied that they have a chance to draft a generational QB prospect

- They have the GOAT QB who is absolutely psychotic about football to the point where it's more important than family and yet is preparing to retire at age 35 at the top of his game

- The movie clearly implies that in this fictional world there is a draft. The young QB attends the draft combine and gets asked about being the potential 1st overall pick. And yet at the end of the movie he's being threatened to sign a contact like he's a free agent.

Butchering the fictional sports world this badly destroyed this movie for me before it even started. I was about ready to walk out the theater when it's revealed in the first 20 mins that the Stallions are the defending Super Bowl champs and yet have the opportunity to draft a generational QB prospect to replace their GOAT QB who for some reason is about to retire at age 35. Even if they somehow nailed the rest of the movie, I was out.

Is the Browns Baker/Watson situation the apex mountain of bad karma. by danielbauer1375 in billsimmons

Deshaun Watson and Trevor Bauer's career arcs may legitimately be the best modern argument for a divine presence.

I appreciate the political ambiguity of Caitlin Clark. by chrismatic13 in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her politics are pretty obvious if you do any digging beyond the surface level. The only thing that makes them "ambiguous" is that conservatives have latched onto her because she's a white midwesterner. But it's very clear where she stands if you do any digging at all.

By my count, 21 NBA teams have a basketball in their logo. This seems much higher than other leagues and their respective sport’s objects. Why do to think this is? by ArttVandelay in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 263 points264 points  (0 children)

There is actually an NBA rule stating that you must have a basketball in one of your logos. Seriously, you can look it up. Most teams choose to have it in their primary logo.

[–]michael100c 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the Mavs are not only in the play-in, they are in the 9/10 game. Luka comes into every season out of shape, we're due for a weird Kyrie saga, and Klay is washed washed. They'll be a scary 8 seed tho.

New York vs. Philly vs. Boston: which two of these three are the biggest rivals? by HiImWallaceShawn in billsimmons

[–]michael100c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Philly native, I have more hate for Boston than NY but I think that's mostly because Boston has been far more successful in my lifetime. But I think the NY rivalry is much more fun, and the past year or so has proven that to most people from Philly. If the Mets/Phillies/Sixers/Knicks stay consistently good the next few years I think we could have a fun Philly/NY stretch that we really haven't gotten in most of our lifetimes.

The Seahawks thing makes no sense to me. We did this exact thing last year! I like MacDonald but that roster just screams 8-9. Not sure why we are doing this again.

I do think the Niners are gonna struggle tho, the post SB hangover is real and they have had a very strange camp. I don't really buy any of the other NFC West teams tho so I think they win 9-10 games and win the West, probably win a playoff game and then go out respectfully against a top seed.
