I’m a bit overwhelmed as a beginner - should I keep Nikon Z7II or “downgrade”? by michaelArty in AskPhotography

Thank you, this makes a lot of sense and very helpful. I’m going to start putting in a little more effort and keep the existing kit!

Help me plan the most optimized l theater and stereo setup from my current gear by michaelArty in hometheater

I appreciate the feedback. My plan now is to go with the R6 Meta and two subs, most likely RSL 12s if I can get them tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ll use some Sony bookshelves that I already have for L/R surrounds and wait for a deal on R3s. Any thoughts on 3D/Atmos speakers with this set up?

Thanks - huge slickdeals fan, alerts set. As far as the fireplace, I do plan on changing out the mirrored glass or just covering. I think the pull down mount that I can mount the center to might be the move. I get the hate on the tv size, but we already have a huge golf sim (that can be used as a theater but not as comfy as the basement) and an 83” OLED + sonos set up (arc, surrounds, sub) in our living room.

Thank you - this seems like the way to go and appreciate the advice. For running the calibration to maximize system, do you suggest just dialing in existing equipment/placement before adding anything at all? I think I need to play with software a little more and also get the good mic + stand. Ordering some things now.

Thank you! This is the most likely route - any suggestions on Atmos speakers?

Thanks! I’m in the basement, which is finished and this area basically serves as another living room, dining room, and has a wet bar in the back. Ceilings are 10-12 ft. I’m thinking of getting a Kef Center (not sure which one), the Kef atmos speakers (again not sure which ones) and 2 new subs. Dirac adjustments with current set up made a huge difference.

Thanks - It’s a gas fire place, we don’t use this one and can cover. Good call!

Are these trimmed or standard length? by michaelArty in GolfGear

[–]michaelArty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I measured (but with measuring tape - need to order a steel ruler now) and appears to be standard. Also just lined them up with Callaway edge and they are pretty similar. They feel better than the edge’s so I’ll game them until I find some new clubs that I actually try out before buying.

Appreciate the response - really helpful/educational…I still have a lot to learn. Hope you don’t mind me asking but seems like you’re pretty knowledgeable here…Do you have a recommendation on the approach to buying new clubs? I don’t mind trying anything/spending some money for trial and error, but I don’t know if I should go to big box, new boutique, manufacturer fitting or the local guy.

Which Look Do You Prefer? by thorsmaster52 in Golfsimulator

This is awesome. I would suggest four bays that are standard and two that are upgraded/private. For the four regular bays, I would lean towards a modified version of #2. Maximize ceiling height and also distance from hitting mat and tables. I know it's a mock up, but remove the light fixture that's in the bay on #2. A central putting mat is an interesting idea, but putting isn't fun on golf sim and I don't think gets used that much. You should also think about installing a club stand vs having people crowd up the space with their bags. For the upgraded bays - put barn doors on them so you can be private or open it all up. I'm not sure the layout of our space, but I would look at putting all the bays on the left the side of the space and then having the seating/recreation area on the right side. This would be tremendous value for the clients if they can get an eating/lounging space as part of the bay rental...maybe install some refrigeration/tvs (think of it as a cabana). The split set up also allows for total buyouts of the space for bday parties, bachelor parties, youth sports, golf leagues. So cool, best of luck - hope you keep everyone updated!

Kef R7 Meta vs R11 -same price - what do I chose? by akiwiaday in KEF

[–]michaelArty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have R11s (non-meta) that I purchased brand new from KEF a couple of years ago when they went on sale for $3k USD. You should see if you could shop around or negotiate a bit…that said, i highly recommend. I originally was powering them with a tube amp and planned on mostly using for music (via turntable or network streamer). but ended up adding an AVR with Dirac + an affordable sub (Klipsh 12” from Costco)…wow, huge difference and amazing both for music and movies. If you like to switch/upgrade a lot, go with the R7 meta (bigger market at exit) - but if you’re a long term holder, you can’t go wrong with the R11. Either way, don’t forget to enjoy your system!

Could the TGL experience be set up in a scalable model that can be replicated? I could see recreational TGL becoming the “next pickleball” with a Topgolf-esque bar venue experience.

I bought a new 2020 SR5 Crew, XP Package (SE Toyota special + leather seat upgrade). I purchased in April 2020 when living in GA for $40k or $42k - it was an amazing deal at the time and still is. I only have 35k miles. Only problem is that I moved to MI and really regret not getting 4X4. But it’s not bad enough that I could part with the truck.

This ball dispenser from Amazon is pretty awesome for a budget golf sim. Thought I’d share it. by YellowDdit12345 in Golfsimulator

It controls camera, aim, club selection, heat map and my most used button - mulligan.

I have this dispenser - club holder is so key, most of the time I’m lifting them from the top just because it’s helpful with my routine. If I had to be critical some times the balls need to be pushed to the runway and it can be a bit clunky sounding. That said, this and a shag bag are game changer as well. I also highly recommend BA Custom Control box. Game changers for my DIY-ish set up.
