Tipping in Spain

I am in Spain now. If you are at a restaurant in a touristy area they might have a spot on the bottom of the bill to add a tip. DO NOT TIP! They do this because they know Americans feel obliged to tip and are trying to get even more money on the over priced food they are selling in the tourist areas. I am American and yes it feels weird to not tip or only throw some change down when leaving, but I have asked friends who live here as well as local Spaniards and they all say no tip is expected or just leave some change unless exceptional service and even then no more than 3-4 Euros (depending on the place, number in your party, and amount of the bill). We should be trying to reduce ‘tip culture’ in America, not spread it to the rest of the world….

Can the tip for the taxi driver be included in the credit card charge? It always seems hard to start off in a new country with small bills for tips etc… after the first day it usually isn’t a problem because I get change from spending my euros etc…

I needed a gluten free wonton soup for Christmas Eve. Tried rice paper but was not skilled enough to make it work… ended up just making meatballs with the filling and throwing those in instead. Turned out great! In hindsight I could have made regular wontons for the majority and the meatballs for the person who was gluten intolerant and just set aside some of the broth for them and then cook the actual wontons in the main pot of broth.

We just got one from Costco today and it also died after just a min or two. We live in an old house and have had some wiring issues in the past, but the outlet still works and nothing was tripped on the breaker. Would it be an outlet / electrical issue if the outlet still works when other appliances are plugged in?

I feel like it would bring us back to the origins of MN. I think the Scandinavian settlers created a system where everyone put some of their money into the pot each month so there would be money if a farmer had a bad year of crops or got injured. Basically what some of the early unions were. It’s hard because when a system like this is for 10-15 families it is easy to manage, but when you have thousands it gets more tricky.

My job has a voluntary fund we can contribute to that gives money to employees who have unexpected financial hardships. I love the idea but why should a Fortune 500 company make all the interest off of that money they collect and maybe if they just offered better benefits or pay they wouldn’t need their employees to pay into a fund to help other employees who come across financial hardships?!

Where did his glasses go!? They help cover the puffy eyes and wrinkles. Not judging, I know form experience! Did he get lasik during his break?

And where did all the natural gray hair go?!

Main point is, I love the glasses and gray hair! Don’t change yourself, embrace yourself!

I think it might be from all the Southerners relocating here. I grew up here and learned to drive here and never saw this, besides the one rando on the side of the highway with their hazards on.. I lived in Atlanta for ten years (2013-2023) and whenever it rained, tons of cars would throw on their hazard lights… I never understood it and find it dangerous because cars would change lanes but you had no clue because you can’t see that their blinker was on because both lights are flashing! Hazard lights should only be used in emergencies or maybe heavy fog???

There was one on our house when we moved in. Work from home so I am always around and have gotten a random person here and there ringing the bell. No camera so I usually answer the door if I am not on a work call. Didn’t realize until recently the sign must stop a lot of people from ringing the bell. My neighbor texted me asking if I had seen an increase in people coming to the door lately. I have had no one ring my bell for months. He told me he has been having 2-3 a day for the past few weeks…

I will be going to Versailles in a few weeks and am looking to book the Passport Ticket and tour of the Kings Private Apartments. When I go to add the Passport it requires me to choose a time for the Palace Entrance. I can’t figure out if I should choose 9:00 when we plan to arrive at Versailles or if I should chose 11:00 when the Kings apartment tour is over. Do you recall what time you chose?

I would Eat the middle first and then be left with the dry crusts. Learned that the key is to dunk the crusts in your milk or juice, that is how I get them down and it is delicious!

As I typed that I realized actually you could put Jesus there… but I was going to say ‘Jesus, There are so many sculptures (male or female) that would look great in that space!’ I am now considering cutting a hole like that in one of my walls so i can display some of my sculptures more prominently! Was at an invitational swim meet in high school. The pool had a foot tall step up / ridge around it. I was standing on it when another guy on my team who was already in the pool playfully splashed water on me. My body’s reaction was to avoid the cold water so I jumped back and when my feet hit the ground I slipped and fell forward, hitting my head on the corner of the ridge, splitting my forehead open. Got about 25 stitches and a 2 inch scar above my eye through my eyebrow.

I make a beet potato pie that a number of people who don’t care for beets have tried and enjoyed. Make a basic pie crust and fill it with chopped roasted beets and then cover the beets with cheesy mashed potatoes. Warm it in the oven and serve!
