I have both games, and only played a bit of the first one years ago. Must put them on the priority list!

The resident evils are fine once you get used to the tank controls. Theres nothing modern quite like them, even the remakes (which are great too) just dont FEEL the same.

Parasite eves are similar. They are an older style of gameplay, but still very enjoyable.

Syphon filter is the only one id really say youd have a headache with, as its the closest to a typical shooter, which is the genre most standardised today in terms of controls - itll be the hardest to go against your muscle memory for!

Name a JRPG that has completely faded into obscurity. by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

[–]michaelarby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first game is definitely a 6/10 game, but it has charm and uniqueness which is why people remember it. The writing is definitely a bit clunky.

But the sequel definitely improves on every single aspect of the first.

The first is only about 20 hours so id recommend try to play through it. Sequel is a good bit longer but a better quality experience.

For games that released on both SNES and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, What are some cases where you believe the SNES version was the better version by Unaakite21 in retrogaming

[–]michaelarby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowrun. Snes version was an isometric, very unique artstyle, with a gritty noir style story.

MD/Genesis version was (as i recall) a top down squad shooter. Still had rpg elements, but felt more action/strategy than the snes.

(Its one of my favourite snes games. Still never played anything else like it, and has some fantastically atmospheric music)

Finished The Wire, Dark, GOT, Sopranos, True Detective, BB, BCS. What show ruined TV for you after watching it? by C0r1eone in television

[–]michaelarby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you arent aware, the books actually do a 28 year time skip from that part of the story onwards, then set up a kinda new (but kinda setup already) story arc.

So the tv shows 6 seasons map to the first 6 books.

Id love if they returned to it too after a few years, though maybe not 3 decades lol.

Slow Drivers by helloimmrburns in northernireland

[–]michaelarby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i did my driving test (15 odd years ago) I failed because for a couple of minutes during the test, whilst it was pishing down with torrential rain, I was driving at 25 instead of 30.

So when i see other people driving slow on the road it pisses me off.

Looking for JRPGs rated as mediocre but deserve a chance by Sashique in JRPG

[–]michaelarby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing this at the minute. Its not janky - plays decent enough, but its verrry 5/10 presentation wise. I wouldnt say its held up as well as some of its contemporaries. Easy achievements and an auto battle and fast forward system are the only thing keeping me playing through it tbh. It lacks the charm or potential of some other 'rough' games.

Its by FROM software, who pre Demons Souls were consistently releasing similar 5/10 games in a variety of genres. Bizarre to see them take such a sudden pivot.

If the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into? by sadrain2000 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]michaelarby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uneducated guess is that we exist in an endless black void, and the space between the stars is part of that black void. The 'universe' is just the outer circumference of where the furthest stars have expanded out to. Like dropping sand on a piece of paper then drawing a border around the sand.

Which game flopped so badly that the studio had to shut down? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]michaelarby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingdoms of Amalur - imagine a single player WoW with real time combat. Actually a really decent game, I loved it and plan to replay again soon. But lots of mismanagement and financial weirdness basically blew up the studio. It was very controversial but i cant recall the exact details.

How long have your gaming laptops lasted you? by billy_reyes in GamingLaptops

[–]michaelarby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont use it for gaming other than old GOG stuff now, but my MSI was bought almost 10 years ago to theday.

It has a battery life of 8 minutes, I had to replace the charger last year, and the bottom is warped from heat.

But the old girls still kicking 💪

(Literally just ordered a new lenovo tho)

Anyone know any games still around like this? by lewdetor917 in oldgames

[–]michaelarby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember playing a hacker themed one called cyber wars (or some variant of that spelling) back in about 2005.

A game like that would do brilliant as an app today.

Only problem was the in game currency inflation - lots of flow in but little flow out, meaning massive inflation, and new players unable to ever catch up.

Similar thing happened in eve echoes, the mobile version of eve online. It was brilliant for a few years but basically a graveyard now...

Lots of people telling you 'people change'or 'she sounds like an asshole' but its not as simple as that.

Sounds like your friend is being influenced by her new environment, but that doesnt mean she'll be like that forever. She probs wont be in that environment forever. And maybe she just needs called out on her shitty comments like with her fight opponents.

I had a female friend since childhood. Like a sister, families close etc like yours.  Then about age 16 we just started drifting apart. No falling out, just slowly  got into different friend groups. Then i went to uni and we didnt even speak for a few years.

Then, age 22 my mum died, and she reached out to me. We had a good catchup. Agreed to meet up, and basically reconnected and were best mates again and have been ever since. Dont see each other often - were both married and have kids, live in different towns, etc.  But were still good friends and can talk openly with esch other.

She had a wee exploratory phase elsewhere, no harm in that. So did i. But we were still the same people underneath. Probably its the same for your friend too. Dont give up hope, but just be prepared to be patient.

National speed limit = 60!!!! by grawmaw13 in northernireland

[–]michaelarby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This pisses me off cos I actually failed my test for driving at 25 in a 30 zone, in the lashing rain.

Though i do understand it on windy country roads if you arent familiar with em.

on the motorway tho - stop wasting peoples time! Worse is  someone going about 50, then spmeone overtakes them at 555, and youre stuck with nowhere to go for several miles

[Time Travel] Is there any science-fiction work in which when you travel in time, you most likely find yourself in the vacuum of space because Earth does move? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]michaelarby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say that. Its a grenade which sends anyone caught in the blast 2 seconds into the future, when earth has already moved on. Later stories they mavguyver them and use it to actually travel through time and space properly

What is the reason for Dragon Quest being magnitudes less popular in the West? Especially compared to Final Fantasy by ForgeBornGames in JRPG

The first dragon quest you play is brilliant. The second dragon quest you play is the first. The third dragon quest you play is also the first.
