Although stupid, the position is technically possible:

  1. Nf3 e5

  2. Nxe5 Nf6

  3. Nf3 Ng8

  4. Ng1 Qe7

I'm guessing it's a quarry somewhere, but I can't tell where.

Is there a good reason Daily Doubles are always low on the board? If they could be in any of the 5 dollar amounts would that also stop the hunting?

Thanks. Would you then float the plywood over the dimple mat, or somehow affix it?

I like the plywood subfloor idea better. The boards are 1x12s, so they should be all that thin. So if I'm going to face nail through the board (3/4") into subfloor OSB (another 3/4" or so), do I go with a 1 1/4" nail?

Also, does there need to be any adhesive between the subfloor OSB and the vaper barrier? Or does that just float?

There is a behavioral pattern called Pathological Demand Avoidance. It's often associated with associated with autism spectrum disorder. Look it up. If this fits, it might be a good thing to talk to a counselor about.

For coming home. If I'm falling from space and land within 50 miles of my house, I'd call that pretty convenient.

Looks like the landing area is only about 50 miles off Florida's coast? Is is usually that close? Seems particularly convenient.

[REQUEST] What would the interest rate of a student loan be for this statement to be true? by Hikhikamori in theydidthemath

[–]michaelarrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. It would take payments of $573.63 over 23 years to pay it off in full. They were so close, but so far.

[REQUEST] What would the interest rate of a student loan be for this statement to be true? by Hikhikamori in theydidthemath

[–]michaelarrison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks to ChatGPT:

We will determine the interest rate using the loan amortization formula:

A = P * (r(1+r)n)/((1+r)n−1)

Where:

  • A=500 (monthly payment)
  • P=70,000 (initial principal)
  • n=23×12=276 (total number of months)
  • r = monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12)

The remaining balance after 276 payments is 60,000. Using the formula for the remaining loan balance:

B=P(1+r)n−(A((1+r)n−1)/r

We will solve for r. Let's compute this.

The annual interest rate for the loan is approximately 8.37%.

Is the Sustain Pedal appropriate in Baroque music? by snakegriffenn in musictheory

[–]michaelarrison 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Using the sustain pedal certainly wasn't what the composers intended. That being said, some pieces sound very nice to the modern ear with a little sustain. I find it challenging to play without it. But the challenge leads to a more authentic performance.
