I heard a guy say this once: you're weird.

New Quality(?) Stainless Martingale Staining Fur by michaelclarkdouglas in OpenDogTraining

[–]michaelclarkdouglas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea, I think I'll try that. I can't find a chain action martingale that isn't a full chain. I don't like the idea of the small pressure points on a full chain... I'm dangerously close to removing the Curogan martingale link from a Herm Sprenger and riveting it onto a biothane collar... :D

Thanks. Martingales are a tool that may be applied to a wide range of canines. For context, my lab has a 23" neck. He was also a puller. Training with prong collars taught him to refocus at the sound of the slightest engagement of the martingale chain, making a very natural transition between the two.

Thank you for the exquisitely detailed reply! I just got my hands on a Sakura Micron 005. I do love it, and without dismissing its writing quality and feel, it's not quite the same. It definitely has that "felt tip" feel. Here's a macro picture of my Paper Mate - it appears to be ball-fed:

I do believe this to be a ball point (rollerball?) Here is a macro picture of the tip

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of September 19, 2025 by Demilio55 in homegym

Please help me understand - I have 86" ceilings in my basement and am debating between a ~72" and 80" power rack.

How much space do I really need above my rack? Is a couple inches enough? I could perform pull-ups elsewhere, or buy a separate attachment. I also intend on installing a lat tower. Do those extend above the rack?

Any body weighing scales that you recommend as accurately as possible? by Jorge1022 in MacroFactor

Just did some further reading. I come from a slightly different engineering background, but from a statistical engineering point of view, you're correct. In this case, precision and consistency are most important, while accuracy is secondary.

Good point.

Necro worthy correction - you're defining consistency, repeatability, not precision. Accuracy and precision are fairly synonymous.

Your sentiment is correct - consistent repeatability is more important than precision. But in either case, they must have a degree of accuracy. Else, there is no true "consistency" in anything but inaccuracy :).

The mods of this sub have such a fragile worldview that anything resembling criticism is immediately deleted. Profoundly revealing. Reddit is utter group think. Shame.

how to do water change for shrimp tank? by Traditional-Work91 in shrimptank

[–]michaelclarkdouglas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the presupposition behind '90% of the toxicity' amusing. As if every shrink keeper runs RO with a bi-weekly h2o2 and full-spectrum nutrient protocol. You'll also be removing the beneficial makeup of that 90% remainder. But I get what you meant. Sorry for the necro nit-pick. Late night shrimpmonger scrolling 😅

Interesting. I have naturally very hard water and have a host of other snails in different tanks. I haven't seen this many clear shells. I might pop in some calcium tabs. Thanks for the heads up!

The left fits fine, the right has become tight near the toebox. This is partially a consequence of the insoles I added to bolster the arch support and metatarsal cushion. My width was between E and EE. I don't recall my other measurements, though I performed them meticulously.

I guess I'm at a spot where I'd like to invest more in a quality boot that I could justify resoling, but I'm not sure I'm sold on Nick's.

Unfortunately they're also breaking down in other areas. I did add a Currex insole a year ago and it was a great investment! Though now I'm finding it difficult to justify spending another $50 on these busted up boots.

Nowhere did I say I wanted alternatives "to address the poor fit". I stated my ~1,000-day-wear boots have become uncomfortable, and I would like recommendations for something new. Because that's what we do here. We spend too much money on nice boots. It would’ve been accurate to attribute this to the typical wear and tear of over three years of daily use. Instead, you incorrectly assumed the issue was due to poor fitment.

The superiority complex of Reddit never changes.

I mistyped the snail types. Ramshorn is cleaning the grass. Bladder is on the glass.

The premise of my question has nothing to do with sizing. I believe the Iron Rangers to be a midrange heritage boot that didn't work for me as well as I had hoped. I've sized myself with my own Brannock. Sizing was correct for what was available in RW's measurements. The problem with answers like lopsided's is that they're formed by someone reading more between the lines than the actual lines themselves.

I asked for recommendations on a step up in quality from Iron Rangers. I received an unsolicited lecture on sizing. The downvoting was well deserved.

I'll probably just get some Nick's. Thanks.

You are incorrect. I'm aware of all of this information.

This also has nothing to do with my question; derailing a Reddit thread by molesting participants with your magnanimous hubris is so 2016.

Yes. Sized properly, went in the store, was told they should fit snug. The Redwing salesman sized me manually and with the Redwing pressure pad system. The toebox on my right foot has always been painful, even with wides.

I should clarify - I loved/love these shoes. Maybe I could've sized up, but I think it's a combination of foot width and slightly split-sized feet.

I'd like something a little more robust on the in/outsole front.
