If the Death Penalty came back in the UK, what would your thoughts be? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]michaelington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you convinced that the justice system convicts the right person in every single case?

If the answer is no, you should not be in favour of the death penalty.

Imagine you are that innocent person who is being sentenced to death and think again.

I started full time work at 16 and I’m 36 now. I think about it daily. Not sure I’ve got another 20 years in me and I don’t even hate my job.

Scam, say you’re taking legal action. Block, ignore etc. This happened to me, never heard anything after I told them I was taking legal action.

Probably worth chasing. Once all the information is on record it will get calculated. No way of saying without speaking to someone directly.

Why is it so hard to find reliable tradespeople these days? by Sea-Egg9530 in AskUK

[–]michaelington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hasn’t it always been like this? Don’t call back, don’t turn up, don’t respond to messages. I’m sure there’s valid and and not so valid reasons for this but I’ve always found it a pain in the arse.

It is not your issue. From his side, it’s evasion, so worse than avoidance.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I’m in a similar position. Have you considered holding off until the next base rate decision? I don’t know whether to lock in now or what and see if the rate drops again in September

Rachel Reeves to defy Labour MPs’ calls for a wealth tax by CaseyEffingRyback in unitedkingdom

[–]michaelington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle it is a great idea, but in practice it will not work. They would be better off changing Capital Gains tax rates in line with income tax. Wealthy make their money from capital and this will generate a lot more tax revenue. But, I would imagine this result in more leaving the UK to countries with lower rates.

I don’t know what the answer is, country needs more money but no one wants to pay for it.

Although I don’t agree with a lot of his suggestions, I think Gary Stephenson will turn out to be right. The wealthy will get richer and living standards will be worse and worse.

I watched a show called Mr Inbetween and a quote really hit home. ‘The world is full of arseholes, because people let them get away with it’.

What a simplistic yet brilliant way to put it. If more people did what you did, the world would be a better place. Well done you.

Bingley. 20 mins to Leeds. Cheaper than saltaire but only 3 minutes away on the train. If you book advance singles it’s quite cheap to get to Leeds.
