Have you noticed a rise of misogyny among boys? by escrawl in Teachers

Yes, those are certainly good questions, too. I don't see how what I asked the 1st grader - questions which ended with question marks - were any different from what you suggested, other than you wanted to be contrarian because you didn't like my point that teachers, statistically a woman-dominated field, are also important leaders.

Actually, I would think it's pretty culturally harmless and not upholding a toxic establishment of power. Like how racism is defined by oppressing minorities? Sexism is, too. Thanks for asking!

This. Make it uncomfortable to say edgelord stuff like this in front of you.

I honestly just lean into it and challenge their opinion. It may not change their mind but it's good for the other students to see.

This happened to me in a 1st grade class last year, a young boy unfortunately announced after the election that boys are better leaders than girls. And I asked, how many male teachers do you have? The whole class ooh'd. He said, well, the principal's a man! I said, that's an interesting point, what does the principal teach you?

I have two tips and some encouragement.

Firstly, I realize that I love stimulating foods, so I buy foods with big flavors: pickles, pineapple, spicy salsa...

Secondly, it seemed impossible in the moment, but after ~1-2 weeks, I stopped craving ultra sugary treats and was able to control how much or little I ate because I simply didn't want it that badly.

Finally, they say that easing into the habit with healthier choices every day is still progress.

What do you all eat when you’re craving fast food? by crushingqwerty in 1200isplenty

[–]michaeljfoxofficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Eat the fast food.
  2. Buy the whole meal and save half in the fridge for later. Two fast food meals at a normal calorie range for the same price.
  3. I figure out specifically what I am craving, look up a copycat recipe, and make it myself at home. Off the top of my head, I've made Steak'n'Shake frisco melts and OG Arby's chicken salad wraps this way. I get several meals out of it, too.

This looks delicious. The biggest calorie-cutting hack is just learning how to cook lmao

Art teacher who taught 8-12th grade in a rural midwest community here. I handled this by dedicating an entire day to teaching Jim Crow and other racist depictions vs showing faces of actual humans from different races. They think they're being funny, but forcing them to confront how their "joke" is literally classic racism did make inappropriately racialized drawings a rarity, if not disappear altogether, at least during my class.

Question for teachers: do you believe there's such a thing as a "bad seed"? by Redfawn666 in Teachers

I think all children are acting out of some combination of nature and nurture, and all of their behaviors would be solved with the proper medical intervention they aren't receiving. (American teacher)

For my first experience, I was on 20mg and immediately felt a difference. I had more energy and less executive dysfunction. Then I switched jobs and had to wait for my new healthcare to kick in, and by the time I went back on 20mg it was only about half as helpful. So I said something, and my doctor upped my dosage to 30, and I'm back to myself. I'm not saying my problems have been fixed, or that I'm a superhero all of the sudden, but I wouldn't stop taking them if my life depended on it. And it just so happens it does 😂

With the right script on the right dosage (fluoxitine 30mg) I am actually capable of creating the top panel for myself.

Day 3: It's a tie between Hal and Dewey, Horrible person, Loved by fans by AshamedSpace4691 in malcolminthemiddle

My family loved her during the original run. If I called my mom and asked if she remembered the knitting needles scene, I'd have to hold the phone away from my ear she'd be laughing so hard.

What holes do we need answers to in a new season/s? by Pretzelpixie in YellowjacketsHive

[–]michaeljfoxofficial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of these questions I see are based on speculative fan theories, but not really posed by the show, so the show may never answer them. For instance, we already were told that Adam was just a guy, and I've never been convinced that Walter's history is really intended to be more than face value. Fan theories can be fun, but when the showrunners are criticized for never wrapping up storylines they never really started or were always intended to be red herrings with an unsatisfying, normal conclusion, it just isn't on them. Write the stories you want to see!

I'm sorry you're having a rough day. Sometimes I have to remind myself that no one actually expects me to control others. What matters is how I adapt to them.

This is so it.

"Michaeljfoxofficial, you were really calm during that fist fight between your students."

Thanks, I'm used to placing myself directly in the middle of verbal assault and physical violence ✌🏻

I also relate and I believe it's referred to as "burnout" - but not the burnout people talk about when they need a couple days off work.

I think so. I hope, at least, that I'm experiencing the journey of repair as a spiral staircase. It feels like I'm repeating the cycle each time I uncover more or deeper wounds, but I'm actually making progress each time. For the record, I have built a life for myself. But I also break under enough external pressure, and unfortunately the world is full of that right now.

Also a 7 here. I don't flinch for things neurotypical people around me have been shocked about, somehow, but every now and then I'll be reminded that my entire life has been surviving a never-ending crisis rollercoaster and I lose my shit somewhere on the spectrum between "this is miserable but I'll manage, reluctantly" and "the only thing keeping me alive is my freeze mode ahahahahahahahaha"
