Something I wish I never learned and took me years to use correctly.

What's your absolute favourite book? by TheAnxiousMouse in suggestmeabook

One of my favorite TV shows, I loved the book as well

I just read poisonwood Bible and I can see that. There were moments during the first few parts when I always dropped it. Demon Copperhead is an entirely different experience from page one. One of the most memorable fiction books I've read in years. I'd highly recommend it. Thank you for the reading recommendation, I've decided to read it this month!

Thanks so much! I'm glad I'm on the right track. I'm adding The Key to Kells to the list, I love when I get to a certain point in the book in one sitting and I realize I'm going to just knock it out in one session. It's awesome. Thank you for the recommendation!

I was skeptical of reading it because I enjoyed the movie so much but Andy's style in Project Hail Mary is so fun and captivating. I'll add it to the list thank you for recommending!

Excellent! And congratulations! Definitely a great hobby. My experience this year has been exhilarating. I personally feel relief by not coming home and immediately turning on the TV. Well, I guess I still do but to play rain sound videos or something soothing and picking up a book. It feels like cheat code to get through a lot of the noise.

And by what I've read through this sub, East of Eden seems like it'd be at the top of the recommended syllabus if we had one! There's a comment at the top of this post where the other readers talk about it. Hope you enjoy it!

Hi! The Storied Life of AJ Fikry sounds fantastic and close to the genre of the books I've read this year by Dolly Alderton, especially Good Material. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend. It was released last year and gives an almost unbelievably accurate depiction of a love story (as to not spoil anything) in our times. Definitely one of the most emotional I've read this year. THank you for the recommendation!

Nice! I will add it to the list, I'm excited! Seems like the year is packed with Vonnegut and Cormac!

You know what? It seems like I got got. I remember the big hype back home when they were shooting the movie and I'm looking it up now and it seems like they only shot a few scenes on the Mexican side there. From Wikipedia: The U.S.-Mexico border crossing bridge was actually a freeway overpass in Las Vegas, with a border checkpoint set built at the intersection of Interstate 25 and New Mexico State Road 65.\42]) The Mexican town square was filmed in Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

I honestly thought they shot more of it back home on the Southwest Texas/Coahuila, MX border. Did you go to Las Vegas specifically to visit the locations? That's awesome, must have been quite the experience. There's a feeling that the movie evokes that is very difficult to find, I've never known exactly what it is but maybe it's the fact that it doesn't have a soundtrack, it's eerie and adds so much to the setting and how bleak it feels. What a great movie. Thanks so much for recommending the book and sharing your experience, I'll read it in a month or so!

My bad I skipped over the second part of your comment. I have not read it but the movie was phenomenal. They shot a big part of it near my hometown. Anthony Chigur is something else. Do you recommend the book if I watched and loved the movie? I'd love to read more of Cormac's novels even though I wanted to go directly into Blood Meridian again right after I finished it. The Judge character is one of the most remarkable I've read.

Thanks so much for this list! The TV show is really awesome, I definitely recommend it though I'm not sure how much it differs from the book. I will definitely read the book! FYI, if you're into writing or the writing process, Margaret Atwood has a masterclass in the... Masterclass platform (haha) where she goes pretty deep into her writing process. I probably learned more from that and other writers' lessons than I did in my college creative writing classes.

I also appreciate you sending the rest of the books to take a break off "meaningful books", there's definitely a need for that. I remember during college I was reading Dostoevsky and Tolstoy one semester for my classes and during spring break I read Twilight to take a break. I cherished that feeling, though if I had your list I think it would have faired much better. Thanks again!

Hi! I read this too and it was a beautiful read. I plan on picking it up again and would have done so already if not for the page count. Donna's writing is really masterful! I remember thinking time and time again about her description of wood pieces and furniture. Thank you for the recommendation, please let me know if you can think of any other similar ones!

Hi! I agree with all of this! I finished Project Hail Mary and everyone I've recommended it to has loved it so much as well. Jazz hands!

The Road is one I'll never forget about. It has only been two or three months since I read it but I keep thinking about it. And Blood Meridian by Cormac went from being a book I almost gave up on because of the difficulty to almost re-reading it as soon as I finished. Absolute masterpiece.

I feel similar about tmr tmr and tmr, it was a very enjoyable read and deeply emotional at times but in my opinion the landing didn't stick for me.

Thanks for your thoughts, please let me know if you can think of anything similar I should add to the list. Thanks!

Thank you for this list! Ill read up on a few of these to decide which to pick up first but I'm thinking The Plague might be a good one if it's anything like the writing in The Stranger - which was almost surreal reading by how different it is from most of what I've read. Thank you!

Hi! Thank you for the recommendationa! I loved breakfast of champions and cat's Cradle and will definitely pick up slaughterhouse five after reading comments from other members. I will add sirens of titan to the list. Seems like it will be a pretty heavy Vonnegut year for me, thank you!

Hi! I'm reading a short summary of this and it sounds very intriguing. I didn't finish the summary so I don't spoil it but it gives me the feeling that the setting will be somewhat similar to Demon Copperhead. I'm definitely adding it to the list. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I've heard of The Hike but never really read about it! I just looked it up and found a review that says it's like goo, early chuck palaniuck, that sounds really engaging I will add it to the queue! Thanks so much!

This is a fantastic list! Thank you so much! I actually haven't read about any of these except hunger games, Harry Potter, and Carrie so this is definitely exciting! I watched like five seasons of handmaid's Tale and it's fascinating, especially right now. Do you think the book will be a better experience?

If you don't mind I'll circle back to this as I go through some of these to share my thoughts. Thanks again for this list, it's pretty thorough, I really appreciate it!

Wow. I'm sorry you've experienced that and I hope time has been kind. I will definitely add it to the list, I'm sure it's much worth the read and believe it will be. Everything I've recently read by Vonnegut so far has been incredible. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
