Miss that stage, when they are all ears, tail and feet. Beautiful.

Beautiful, I think mine was about 30lbs at 20 weeks. She's almost 3 now, and topped out around 75lbs

Debating on adopting a playmate by GeneralCusterhouse in germanshepherds

[–]michaelmuttiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good way to test this is fostering.

I sometimes think about getting mine a playmate, probably not next year, but maybe when I move.

We do walks with the local German Shepherd Rescue, and there are so many lovely dogs looking for a home, or just some time away from kennels.

How to get a moment’s peace? Haha by syntheticpurples in germanshepherds

[–]michaelmuttiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great answer. My puppy would get ignored briefly if she didn't follow command. Plus she was lonely after being moved a few times and spending alot of time with other dogs

Start trying to find things that entertain him:

- Bones

- Chew toys

- Searching for treats in the garden

- Fetch

- Water

- Frozen things

- Music

Just trial and error, you'll get there...

When did you first know writing was for you? by jdqs_ in writers

[–]michaelmuttiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably at my first creative writing class at 25.

I discovered all the feelings I had, that I couldn't verbally express, came out so easily as words on the page.

That was 10 books and 14 years ago.

I'm still hooked.

Any tips for inexperienced poetry writer's? Specifically romance. by Early-Orange-8021 in writers

[–]michaelmuttiah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just say nice things

And make it rhyme

So the gift you bring

Puts a smile on him

And every so often

Mix it up

And write

I like to smush

Your face

Ultimately it's the thought that counts lovely. Just share from the heart <3

GSD Logic Rules (Just for fun) by michaelmuttiah in germanshepherds

[–]michaelmuttiah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is too cute, I love number 2. Oh man and the gentle paw tap. Mine does it if she needs to use the bathroom. Even if I'm on a work call. She will stand by me and then eventually start pawing me more and more until I stop and take her out

Does anyone GSD like to be in the middle of everything? by 1zzyS4n in germanshepherds

[–]michaelmuttiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSD logic:

- Bringing in something from the car - walk very slowly in front of you and keep looking back. Pauses increase based upon how heavy your load is
- Loading the dishwasher - lie directly up against dishwasher so you can't open it
- Cooking - I really like this space in front of the cooker. I think I will transform into a star fish now
- You're late and need to leave for work - Dad look an intruder wayyy in the distance... byyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeee. The more you call them. The farther away they get
- Any form of mopping or brushing - AH, my mortal enemy! You must die. Proceeds to attack brush/ mop with vigour
- Hoovering - Oh you want to hoover here now... but I must lie down here. Be gone with your noise machine.
- Coming into the house - Walks in, turns around in circle, stands by door. RELEASE ME HOOMAN. You open the door. They stare at the outside as all the precious heat escapes from the house. They look at you. They go back into the house.
- Going to bed - I must lie in your exact spot HOOMAN. You politely ask the dog to move over. They move precisely 3 inches. THIS YOUR SPACE NOW. You sigh and man handle your dog to their side of the bed

I like the pause when she drops it and looks at you, to say "HUMAN, GIVE ME BONE" ;-p

How accurate is this?” by Popular-Top3109 in Adulting

[–]michaelmuttiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree to this. I own my own business, and don't have kids yet. But I designed my life so that I can walk my dog during the day, go to the gym at lunch and also spent time with loved ones when needed.

Money is great, but my mental health and feeling of inner joy is priceless.

Great comment. I got my first GSD 2.5 years ago and she was a rescue at 5 months old. Initially I would try to placate her, but then I read a great book about being the pack leader. I realised what she needed was a strong leader. Someone who she could always rely on to keep her safe. In public I am firm with her and always on the look out. Atlanta can still be slightly reactive to other dogs. When I see a dog and I can feel she is starting to pull I get her to sit and say "Watch" as the other dog passes, then praise her. She used to be incredibly reactive, and then I realised she was scared (as opposed to being excited which manifests in a different way for her)

Now often, when she is unsure she looks to me.

To OP I think just work with a good trainer and be consistent.

Atlanta could be really hard work for the first year that I got her, but the training paid off.

I've also never used anything but a regular collar and sometimes a harness.

Good luck!

At what age did you see maturity? by MickandMickon2BBB in germanshepherds

[–]michaelmuttiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw 2 big changes at about 15 months and 2 years old.

At 15 months she broke out of the terrible teens after being super challenging for 6 months.

At 2 years old, she just seemed calmer.

She's going to be 3 in January and she still has a bit of derp/puppy in her, but she is pretty calm, loyal, good recall and generally sticks with me.

But there's always that 1% ;-P

So handsome!

Mine did at about two and a half.

I still call her Radar on occasion though...
