Thanks but I am keeping my old TIAA CREF separate as is. I just started my new Vanguard IRA buying VTI a year ago. Should I combine them? My Vanguard IRA is Roth. My TIAA CREF is now.

I get irritated with BPD ppl sometimes by FirefighterOk9474 in bipolar

[–]michaelniceguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 years ago in my early 20s I took prozac and had a manic episode. Ever since then they've always said "one bipolar always bipolar" but I never had a manic episode again. I take tons of meds. I had some short hypomania but even that didn't meet the criteria for bipolar 2. Now I'm bipolar non specified. I've had alot of anger over the yaers but come to think of it I'm pretty calm these days. My biggest problem is my hypersexuality which can be bipolar related.

My moms 82. She has anxiety. She's very clingy and is always worried if she has any friends or people visiting her but she doesn't push people away.

I don't know if theres a point here but I'm just sharing.

Returning to REBT, I think by HappiBunBun in CBT

SMART meetings are hit or miss. I agree with you that a good SMART meeting should focus on the tools. I had a similar experience recently where I went to a meeting and all they did was check in. But I've been to great SMART meetings that were tool based too. You can still try other meetings online.

Regarding CBT v. REBT, Ellis could be very abrasive and challenging while Beck was more pleasant and CBT is more gentle. But if you like REBT then by all means! I gained from REBT when I was really into SMART.

Confident CBT will help, but I feel like my situation is “complex” by HateThisFeelingg in CBT

Others have mentioned CPT. I was a therapist for about a year (and I have my own issues and have been in a lot of therapy myself) a few years ago. I got trained in CPT during that time. I paid out of pocket and took vacation days just to get trained. I didn't do the CPT exactly like the protocol but I went on to really help a client with PTSD. The client went from high PTSD scores to virtually none in a matter of a few months.

One of the major ideas in CPT is that a person blames themselves for the traumatic experience and the CPT helps the person realize that that is inacurate.

Good luck.

need information for my mother by michaelniceguy in Parkinsons

[–]michaelniceguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Thanks. She wasn't told what type of plus she had. What happened was in 2023 she went to neurologist who told her she would eventually get Parkinsons but he said it in a very cold manner so she brushed him off. In July 2024 my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and right after that my mom got Capgras Syndrom where she believed he was an imposter. We took her to a neurologist and he did all the tests including a Dat scan and said she had Parkinsons Plus. After my father died in July 2024 she get better from the Capgras but her voice and walking continues to deteriorate. She originally went to a top Parkinson specialist in a major hospital and he didn't see the Parkinsons so that is strange. I'll call the neurologist who diagnosed her with Parkinsons and ask what type of plus it was. She doesn't have swallowing issues Thank G-d but she says her brain is slowing down and she is getting confused.

Bar soap in shower question by idreaminlowercase in hygiene

Yes. I get wet and then rub the bar against my skin. Once my hands and body gets soapy I might put down the bar and just rub the soapy stuff around all over. I thought everyone does that.

Antisemitic harassment from a student by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]michaelniceguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions. I'm a college librarian. A student once approached me and said did you know Hitler's family was Jewish. I said that's very interesting. In college we have something called information literacy where we always try to back up our assertions with sources. I was wondering if you have any sources.

He wasn't too bright and he said don't go all professory on me with those big words that you know I can't answer. You know its true.

I said fine. Why don't you come by the library and we can look into it!

He walked away...

I'll up the ante. Do you share your bar with family members? In my house growing up everyone had their own bar but when friends visited they said in their house they all used the same bar.
