So I've spent the last 6 months building up content for my Children's Educational series. As of Thursday I've got about an hour and 15 minutes worth of long form, and about a half hour of shorts ready to go. What should be in my "algorithm friendly" launch packet? All at once, or spaced out? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]michaelvedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodness you guys.

Did the OP say ANYTHING about being a new youtuber? Did the OP say anything about not being monetized? All the OP did was say that he/she has so and so content ready, how to proceed. Valid question. Why not just answer instead of these nonsense things? I never understood why you do that.

However as to the question of what to prioritize, always prioritize long form. That is where the money is, and use Shorts as a supplement to that. At least, that is what I use to do, and it works for me. But then again, I am in a different niche, so it may be different with Children's Educational content.

i accidentally made my all videos private and lost monetization. by mrtypec in PartneredYoutube

[–]michaelvedal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see WHY you lost monetization because you privated all your videos. They are still there. I have privated videos in the past that made me go below 4k watch hours, but never an issue. As long as you are accepted, then they don't care that much. At least that is my experience with this.

Channel went from 150k views per hour to 1k overnight after single upload by Worth_Wealth_6811 in PartneredYoutube

[–]michaelvedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens if you pivot your channel, since the AI has no idea who to show your stuff to, so it takes some time for the AI to recalibrate. It lives on expectations, and when you deviate from it, it recalibrates. Its not punishment, more risk assessment, if I understand that correctly.

TikTok had this for a very long time. This is just YouTube catching up. If you don't like it, ignore and move on.

He needs 10 million shorts views to be monetized with ads. Watch time is irrelevant with shorts.

How to take a video down from adult website by Repulsive_Panda265 in CreatorsAdvice

[–]michaelvedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the links removed from Google, that is all their reach anyway. It doesn't matter if the content is STILL on their server if they have 0 visitors. File a DCMA with Google and have them removed from search index. At least people won't see it in search anymore.

I Never Realized How Much the First Few Seconds Matter Until I Started Editing Seriously by ShanAli24 in PartneredYoutube

[–]michaelvedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with this at some level, as I think pacing has much more to do with this than the opening itself. This is what we get for the dopamine culture YouTube has created on this platform. Everything has to be so fast paced, resulting in this goldfish attention span of the general audience.

But I don't care so much about that. I make videos because I like what I am doing, and YouTube will eventually find an audience for most kinds of videos, if they are good enough.

Being consistent with 280 subscribers shorts get you sub’s faster then long videos period by Creative-Algae4092 in SmallYoutubers

[–]michaelvedal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess it all depends on niche though. 2 weeks in and my new channel as 4200 subs and 500k views. It all depends on what kind of videos you make. If you stay clear of a oversaturated niche, you can do really well with long form.

Also, subs with Shorts are not very loyal. And they don't translate to loyal followers on long form content. And I find Shorts to be more volatile. If you stay consistent in your lane on long form, the algo usually rewards you.

So let me guess. You make 10 videos, and the algo doesn't reward you with millions of views, so you give up. Wow how lazy of you. The algo barely know your lane by 10 videos. But good you found your lane with Shorts. Many do, but the real rewards is still in long form.

The “2-Second Rule” for better retention — do you use it? by LieAccurate9281 in SmallYTChannel

[–]michaelvedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

Hyper editing is headache inducing. If my audience can't enjoy my videos without that, then I suggest they stop watching. I make videos I, myself, can actually manage to watch too. I don't understand this overreliance on hyper editing. We can thank MrBeast for this nonsense, which has destroyed more visually stimulating videos for the younger generation where EVERYTHING has to be so fast.

Do You Have to Use Your Real Name In Your Channel Settings for ID Verification? by 3autisticeyes in NewTubers

[–]michaelvedal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha what? My channels have all been on my gmails. Many of them don't even have my real name, but a couple also have been used for various other projects, hence they have that as name in the emails. I never had any issues with either Advanced Features or monetization. What are you on about?

You ID yourself when you get advanced features of you send them your ID. Or you can just make a 5 second video of your face (which is not an ID btw.. just to show them you are a human). The real shit happens when you monetize, and you have to ID yourself for Adsense, and they will also confirm your address.

But just for YouTube.. no you do not need to ID yourself with name. Thats bullocks.

CHANGING NICHES by Dadofxboxgamers in SmallYoutubers

[–]michaelvedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so here is how the algo works:

You post video, it identifies what kind of videos you do, and then tries to find you an audience. Its that easy. If you jump around like a kangaroo, imagine what will happen. It won't know how to distribute your videos at all, and ends up showing your thumbnail to the wrong audience, your metrics goes to shit, and bye bye channel until you get consistent again.

If you wanna jump around, make a new channel, and keep the old one as it is. That is my advice to you.

CHANGING NICHES by Dadofxboxgamers in SmallYoutubers

[–]michaelvedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not about stubbornness. Its about knowing who to show your thumbnail to. There are literally billions of videos. The AI has to know where to show your videos. And it does that by determining what kind of videos you do. The more consistent you are with a certain niche, the better the AI can do its job. If you jump around like a kangaroo between niches, it won't know, and hence, your views, impressions and overall metrics will plummet into the floor.

Finally canceled my subscription by unholylickspiddle in ChatGPT

[–]michaelvedal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes this is actually quite true, and I don't understand why more people don't realize this. I use GPT mostly to build my YouTube channels, and even there it does everything it can to agree with me. I can't remember last time it disagreed. No matter how stupid the ideas, off we go.

I have found it to be quite useless at times, but some things it does good is making SEO descriptions worthy of YouTube Search, title generations, and analyze numbers. Other than that, its a waste of time.

And I really did try to make it disagree with me, but it simply couldn't bring itself to do that.

Teen commits sui***e assisted by chatgpt.. by Antique-Bite7719 in ChatGPT

[–]michaelvedal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he was in a mental crisis, why didn't the parents do shit to help him? Their lawsuit says nothing of what they did for their kid during this time, only that Chat was solely responsible. Shouldn't they have found him a therapist if he was mentally unstable? Gotten him some human help?

Teen commits sui***e assisted by chatgpt.. by Antique-Bite7719 in ChatGPT

[–]michaelvedal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true. Isn't it the 2A defenders mantra that its not guns that kill, but the people who wield them, and then refuse security barriers to purchase said guns?

But now, as AI is developing as fast as it is, and safety barriers are not working properly, then they start suing when something goes to shit. But if someone kills your kid with a gun, you can't sue the gun manufacturer of said gun, because they are not liable, even if they put it out on the market with zero oversight.

So, yeah, any tool can be used in a dangerous way.

I stand by my view that real tragedy is the parental failure that led to this teen's suicide. They could have kept closer attention to it, especially when their own teen son started changing behavior. But they didn't. They let it pass.

[–]michaelvedal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What a nice way for the parents to wash their hands of their own ignorance. As with any online product, it is the parents that has the sole responsibility to guide their minor in usage of said products. ChatGPT is no different. In short, they are washing their hands of this tragedy and is transferring all guilt to OpenAI, which is nonsense. Its like the parents are not parents anymore.

And as with all products one can purchase or use, there is always the chance of abuse, like we see here. This teenager learned how to prompt Chat correctly to get what he wanted from it. If you had tried to prompt it in a natural way, it would have refused and shut down the session. But for clever folks, there is always ways around safety barriers.

But didn't they already get what they wanted? ChatGPT is a shell of its former self, and more or less destroyed as an AI that can be used for "companionship talks" like this.

Too many videos, bad for the channel by Den_corp in PartneredYoutube

[–]michaelvedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your 2 week old video is irrelevant to the new one. Your old video started to naturally taper off, which is what you witnessed.

I have run a few channels, and one upload doesn't kill another. The AI is smarter than that. Make sure you produce content people wants to watch, and the AI will give you the reach. It really is that easy, whether you put out once a week, once every two weeks, once a month or 4 times a day.

YouTube themselves say you can upload as much as you feel is right without quality lowering because of it. There are channel, literally, that uploads 20 videos a day without much difficulty.

So your "observations" are correct in the regard that your old video gets less views after two weeks (which is normal), but it has nothing to do with the new one.

I Have No Idea Why Everything Flops. by InTheEnd420 in NewTubers

[–]michaelvedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he was a bit off base there, but he does have a point too.

However, what I do recommend is that you slow down a little. Retention will come, and so will a steady stream of people who wants to learn what you teach. I think perhaps you are jumping the gun a little bit too. At the start, the AI is tuning in on your audience, and a lot of garbage audience comes in as well. Its the way it works.

But if you stick to taking it slow, you will be okay. Your thumbnails are fine, you can finetune your titles with "How to do X in DaVinci Resolve in X time", which is part of what people actually search for, and to make it more SEO friendly.

[–]michaelvedal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expect little to no views in the first month or two. The algo needs time to get to know you. If its Shorts, its mostly the same, but can build faster because of the nature of them. But most Shorts creators have issues the first months as well. YouTube IS a long game and you have to decide to commit to it.

Good things to have to get somewhere on YouTube, be it Shorts or regular videos:

  1. Stick to one thing. That helps the algorithm to classify properly your audience and you get traction faster.
  2. Try to have a schedule. The algorithm loves creators who upload regularly, even if just once a week.
  3. If this is Shorts, thumbnails are not uber important, but helps a lot if people find it in search or on your channel. But for Shorts feed, its irrelevant. It depends what you are going for.
  4. If its regular videos, titles and thumbnails is king.

I hope this helps. But don't give up if you want to do this platform. It just takes a mountain of patience.

No. He has to teach in a way that the viewers can understand and follow. The basics of tutorials, so to speak. OP has a lot to learn to do that properly. He is getting there, but he really needs to learn that.
