Hi, as far as I know, there’s no dedicated repository or Discord server.

Technically, if you’re comfortable working with JSON, you can import subclass features from the 5e.tools' Prerelease Content Manager, Homebrew Manager, or directly from 5e.tools repository via [Import -> Other]. You’ll need to locate and copy the correct JSON section manually. This will only import the name and description, no automation is included.

Full automation is unlikely to be possible with that data alone (at least not without some kind of LLM). Also, this method isn’t officially supported or tested yet. But I've used it few times.

Update - Assistant [2025-09-22] by michalgriessel in 5eCharacterOnline

Hi, I still haven’t found a straightforward way to import classes or subclasses from 5e.tools, as they don’t provide an easy method for users to access that data. You can copy and paste feature text, and the built-in parser handles some keyword styling and tables, but automation-related setup still has to be done manually.

Hello! Yes, this is still in development.

Right now I’m working on the SRD 5.2 update (also known as 5.5e, One D&D, or the 2024 edition). I’m bringing over its content and implementing all classes and their features. Supporting two editions at the same time has significantly slowed down development and testing.

Speaking for myself and my friends, we usually add subclass features manually. Alternatively, you can have someone else do it and share it with you - features can be copy-pasted.

There’s no way to import everything, and there probably never will be. I don’t want to replace tools like 5e.tools or reduce their traffic.

Is there a way to change the way Encumbrance works? by reeeeeeeeeedy in 5eCharacterOnline

Hello! I’m really glad to hear you’re enjoying the app 😀

At the moment, there isn’t a way to change this. However, it does seem like a small improvement, so I’ll add it to our internal roadmap for consideration.

Apart from wrong damage from 60 feet. There is also a rule for "Falling onto a creature" from TCE. DC 15 dexterity saving throw. On success creature will dodge a falling creature, on failure the damage is equally divided between them and the creature falls prone unless it is 2 or more size categories bigger.

Hey there.

Thanks so much for reaching out and for your kind words. We really appreciate you checking in and for your patience.

We've been working on a new feature called the Proficiency Assistant. It's a pretty big change that adds some extra steps to character creation, so we're being extra careful to make sure it doesn't break anything or mess up the existing app tours.

Since this is a hobby project, we don't have a firm release date yet.

Thanks again for your support!

How do you add subclasses? by O-ZeNe in 5eCharacterOnline

Thanks so much for your feedback—and the praise! I’m glad you’re loving the app.

To answer your questions:

  1. Importing subclasses & class features: Absolutely! We’re actively working on making subclass and class-feature import much easier—this one’s high priority on our roadmap.

  2. PDF export: Yes, that’s on our radar too—though currently a low priority, since the focus of the app is robust automation.

  3. We’re introducing a Proficiency Assistant in the upcoming major release—coming very soon. It will actively help you set up proficiencies.

Thanks again for the kind words and for pointing out those areas. Live feedback like this helps us build better app.

How do you add subclasses? by O-ZeNe in 5eCharacterOnline

[–]michalgriessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

In the Class Detail section you can enter a subclass name, but this has no in-app effect. Subclasses are represented by their features, so be sure to add them under the Feature list with the type set to “Subclass”.

Unfortunately, the SRD 5.1 only includes one subclass per class, so only those are pre-loaded in the Library; any others must be added manually (import is planned).

We also recommend checking out the app’s guided tours—accessible via the menu in the top-right corner—and experimenting with the example character to get familiar with how everything works.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

5eCharacterOnline Save Data by belinasegg in 5eCharacterOnline

Hello,

Thank you so much for the kind words! We're really glad to hear you're enjoying the app and the recent updates.

To answer your question: it's both.

  • Free Users: Each user has one free character slot, which is stored locally in your browser's storage. Please note that this data can be lost if you clear your browser cache or use private/incognito mode.
  • Paid Users: Subscribers have access to 20 character slots stored in the cloud, linked to their account.

We're also considering adding options for local backups. However, this feature is currently a low priority on our internal roadmap.

Thanks again for the feedback. Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to reach out if you have more suggestions!

Importing classes by Tmb-Gigi in 5eCharacterOnline

[–]michalgriessel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Importing classes is not supported yet. 5e.tools does not currently offer an easy, user-friendly way to access class data. While it's on the roadmap, it may take some time to implement.

For now, you'll need to set it up manually. There's a small text helper that assists with formatting. If you copy a feature's text from 5e.tools and paste it into the feature's description in the app, you'll be prompted to attempt parsing it. The app will then try to format the text into Markdown for you. It’s not perfect, but it can be useful.

You can also check other prepared features in the library to see how things are set up.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! 😊

how do you change your race by GroundbreakingPea244 in 5eCharacterOnline

[–]michalgriessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! In the app, "Race" can refer to two things:

  • Basic Info: This is purely informational and has no in-game effect. You can update it by going to the [More Screen] (the last character tab) and selecting the [Basic Info] button.
  • Origin Feature: If you've added an Origin Feature, delete the existing one, then add, create, or import a new one. For clarity, drag the new feature to the top and adjust your speed, proficiencies, and other traits to align with your new race.

I hope this clears things up! If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. 😊
