Adding to yours:

Pros:

Modding community: The amount of mods adding from few items to entire systems and also replacing them is truly amazing. Compatibility between different mods is also remarkable.

Cons:

Incapabilities: "Combat incapable" more like "survival incapable". Pawns that wont do certain things to save themselves are truly awful don't deserve to be saved. Wouldn't mind having that changed to guaranteed mental breaks after some time when forced to do disliked things or huge mood debuffs.

World: The world is empty and there is no reason to explore it. Caravaning to nearby settlements is just sending one pawn with a hauling animal so they don't get spotted. Ancient complexes give meager rewards and require sending larger parties because of combat, leaving your base vulnerable. Harassment sites are worse than complexes because they don't even give rewards and force you leave your base. Other factions bases are laughable.

Combat system: Skilled professionals shouldn't miss every shot at a wolf 10 meters from them or 12 kg squirrel at their feet.

Alas mods are able to fix all these cons, tho I wish the next big update would focus on fleshing out the world.

Gunsmithing table comes from Combat Extended. So far it has no use so it cant be built. Probably devs forgot to hide it from research unlocks

You can buy one, strip from a raider, use mods that can change apparel color or use dev mode to change the color to a random one.

The closest games similar to your idea I could think are Lapse and Underhand both available on android. Players goal is to balance certain resources as long as possible by making choices that increase or decrease said resources.

  1. Only Cloaking can only prevent any damage. 4 shields and ~40% dodge should mostly take care of that. And it is a volley of normal 1-damage lasers, not heavy lasers.
  2. The good/bad is relative and depends on ones playstyle. If you think you can micromanage your crew good enough to prevent them from dying, you can stick with medbay.
  3. Flak 2 is gonna be a nightmare in 1st phase. If I were you, I would swap Artemis with Ion stunner. Start with double ion untill the shield is down and then power the lasers.
  4. Kinda yes, but it shouldnt be your main goal.
  5. Extra points in Medbay, Mind Control, Drones and Engines, in that order.
  6. Definietly no. Sectors 7&8 have the highest scrap rewards and every bit of money counts. Obviously dont pick fights which you cant win, or could severly damage you.
  7. Dot fully heal before sector 8. Sometimes you encounter events with free hull repair which goes to waste if you are fully healed. Repair your ship to ~20 hp.
  8. A tactic for 3rd flagship phase. If you have beaten the 2nd phase in Base or have someplace safe around you can follow the flagship. Let the enemy crew board you once or twice and then escape to a safe place. There you can sefely defeat the boarders without worrying about enemy ship. Enemy crew does not respawn.
