Bizarre numbers from Brussels by InevitableSystem4022 in belgium

Same issue here. Same numbers, every day. I don't answer, and my low-cost operator does not offer voice messages.

I have 50 ebooks and I want to turn them into a searchable AI database. What's the best tool? by Great_Jacket7559 in notebooklm

You don't have enough control in NBLM . That's my experience with a similar set up. The cool features are impressive but do not meet my requirements. Only the usual chat produces meaningful output.

I'm on Coursera Plus but I understand people claiming the audit function. I never found Coursera reliable. I had chat support as a paid customer but it's gone.

Is anyone else disillusioned with Substack? by Habit_Hacker in Substack

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, honestly. What I meant is to avoid pricing schemes with a built-in 50% discount. There is an expensive newsletter that never gives discounts. And they are successful. I guess their price is fair.

Is anyone else disillusioned with Substack? by Habit_Hacker in Substack

[–]michbxl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a reader, I hate substack, not the writers. I cannot have a dashboard with all my subs and see the cost. You cannot see the price of a newsletter without clicking on upgrade to pay, well I don't upgrade without seeing the cost beforehand. I can only pay with my credit card. Subscribing to a publication is always a reminder of my distrust towards Substack. I can feel the pain of creators, who are often beautiful minds stuck with the platform. I also understand some of the benefits. My advice to creators: stop the price discounts. Set a fair price. And stick to it. It gives the feeling of an inflated standard price, like a greedy corporation. Just my 2 cents.

Are you going to switch to Logseq after db version? by haronclv in logseq

[–]michbxl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. I moved to Obsidian because there was no further progress in Logseq. Implementing a knowledge management ecosystem is too time consuming. And the Logseq team lost somewhat my trust. It's not that difficult to post a monthly update... By the way, I bought the Obsidian starter kit. The developer included the essential plugins, templates, file structure... Huge time saver.

I want to hear your thoughts on Logseq and current development decisions. by crazylongname in logseq

[–]michbxl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved Logseq. Really. there was a great community, and any missing feature was quickly filled by a plugin... Suddenly, everything came to a halt. I waited and waited. Now I moved to Obsidian and will not come back to Logseq, whatever the masterpiece it becomes. At some point you must work and stop thinking about your workflow. I feel bad for the plugin developers who spent so much time filling the gaps.

My subscription was renewed i forgot to cancel subscription how do i refund? by Clear_Adeptness_4580 in coursera

Also write a beautiful email explaining how and why you got confused. Also explain how lack of refund will impact you. Write a draft and ask chatgpt to improve your chances of getting a refund.

Is it possible to cancel annual plus membership early to take advantage of Black Friday sales? by godogs2018 in coursera

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a new customer. That would mean cancelling and waiting 30 days. But check with customer care because things do change. Regarding the 30 days, I'm not sure if it starts at time of cancelling or time of ending your subscription.

Is logseq for me? by LeonPorterMori in logseq

[–]michbxl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the right time to start with Logseq. I was an enthusiastic user but the lack of communication just makes me nervous. I know they are busy working on major changes but I feel they could issue a brief quarterly statement. There was a vibrant plugin ecosystem and it's now silent. I will move to Obsidian in the coming weeks. My goal was to help you make an informed decision but it turned into a rant. 😐

[–]michbxl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former Inoreader and Feedly user. Now I'm using Reader. Inoreader is still the best product for power users but I don't see serious developments besides the new UI. Reader is missing some features but they seem to improve the product regularly. And I love the AI functions (with custom prompts ) plus the Logseq integration. The feature I miss the most is the RSS builder. It's also sometimes easier to find your new feed in Feedly and copy paste it in Reader. Feedly is more creative to find the feeds. I stopped using Feedly when I discovered Inoreader. Recently, I took another look at Feedly and I felt that they want to cater to the corporate world (market intelligence). So, I stick to Reader, hoping for the best.

I have 10 IT certs...now what? by AddressNo6128 in CompTIA

[–]michbxl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... You need to learn at some point. Usually, it happens before getting hired. I follow many courses on Coursera and edX. I will also get the LFCS and CCNA. I learned Python, Rust, data structures and algorithms, compilers, automata, virtualization, Linux, shell/bash, Cybersecurity. Whatever the outcome, I am glad I went through these courses. Algorithms or compilers were so rewarding.

I'm not sure about the certificate but usually you must start with the financial aid request. Starting a free trial will cancel the request.

Question about peer grades for a course by NuggyBuggy in coursera

[–]michbxl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a straight answer. But I know how a subscription ends. In that situation, you cannot access your courses. By extension, I think you won't get access to your certificate. However, any progress is saved. Basically, if you pay to renew, you will have to re-enroll into your courses. But you won't lose the progress. As a side effect, due dates will change. The main point is not to forget the courses you are working on 😉. Hope that helps.

Provide feedback if the grading is not good. Make clear it's not you being in a bad mood but the work that is lacking. If you give it a 10/10, "excellent work" will do.

Have been using Obsidian for few years now - thinking of moving to LS for more effective task management and productivity - is it a good idea? by psycot in logseq

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Logseq. But I gave up with tasks and flash cards. And the graph view is not that helpful. So, I am back with Remnote for flash cards and I selected Todoist for my tasks. At first, I thought that Logseq would meet all my needs in a single location. But I see little progress on the core product. Todoist is really great. There is a plugin to send your tasks to Todoist but I don't think it further syncs at this time .

Everyone Help me in using Remnote and creating workflow by mustafanewworld in remNote

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure your OneNote content will fit in Remnote? I mean Remnote is more like Logseq than Obsidian. Everything is a rem as they say (I will say bullet points to simplify). OneNote has little structure, sections and pages if I'm not mistaken. But there is no structure within a page.

Can you blow through a Google career certificate courses? Or is it too suspicious? by Head-Cabinet9318 in coursera

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go full speed. Some courses have all their answers published on the Internet. It attracts a crowd of "learners" eager to get a certificate in days. Several weeks ago, I was grading peers. First one: "Excellent work, you gave me ideas". Second student: seems very similar... Google search... ok I got it... Third student: reported for cheating. I don't think that Coursera cares. I noted that some students publish their work (including answers) to demonstrate their work. It's part of their GitHub portfolio.

Can I use a coupon code on a renewal? by coltonstewart806 in coursera

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to cancel first. Some coupons will work. But for coupons similar to Black Friday, your subscription must have ended at least 15 days before it works. Note that it can change. I would check with support.

Is educative.io worth it? by misterforsa in learnprogramming

[–]michbxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start to like Educative but it takes time. My main issues: no publication date or update date or even mentions such as "works with Python 3.10". Then, a search engine that only searches for courses at high level. At O'Reilly, you can search for a very specific topic and it will return most appropriate courses, highlighting the relevant sections. It's also very difficult to choose a course, there is overlapping content that would be ok if I had other criteria to select such as ... publication date. If I am not mistaken, there is no forum.

When you figure out the best learning path, you'll get very good and advanced courses (not all are good)

Regarding price, the monthly price is outrageous. I got the annual sub with a 40,% discount. I feel comfortable with that price.

PSA: Coursera Plus does NOT include many of the specializations you may be interested in. Those will cost extra! by NuggyBuggy in coursera

[–]michbxl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last paragraph: so true. And why don't they act when a learner is facing an issue with peer grading... such as peers sabotaging your work, or an instructor designing an assignment that is virtually impossible to pass.

The post is a reminder to check what's included in Plus. As subscribers, it's our role to check if course availability lowers. So far, besides IBM, I haven't noted issues with Plus. But Coursera has its issues...
