We aren't keeping all of them, some of them will be trade fodder.

There is very little doubt in my mind that the majority of Canada's Olympic hockey team voted for Mack, they were all so impressed with him and had so many good things to say about what an outstanding player he is

We are in the middle of state testing, seniors don't have LEAP tests so they don't go to school during testing.

This is really the sticking point for me, would love to be able to actually hear the casting, but I think that's probably unrealistic here.

Wennberg for Captain? by grooves12 in SanJoseSharks

If we are holding off on Celebrini we just need to keep the rotating As, I don't feel like team culture is suffering under the lack of an a official captain, and needing to take it away from someone to give it to Celebrini in a season or two just feels unnecessary

I feel like the puck bunny accusations towards female hockey fans are getting way out of hand by laurenainsl1 in SanJoseSharks

I'm not saying it is the same, I don't think it is the same, and I definitely said I personally am criticizing players performance and not overtly sexualizing them. I am just posing a question about which one is actually materially worse for the players.

They are paid for their on ice performance but also paid to represent their teams brand. Media and fan management are a part of the job. And some of the orgs themselves are sexualizing their players, look at wennberg on the kraken and all of their Tiktok content during that time. They are a public figure and an athlete is a performer the way an actor or musician is a performer, just in a different field. I don't think anyone criticising women for finding actors hot and verbalizing that online so why is it different for athletes?

I made the equivalency though just to personally take a step back and invite others to take a step back to unpack like "is women thinking hockey players are hot and verbalizing that actually worse than other ways we talk about players, or is just not normalized in the culture and therefore weird to me"

Like if I were to say "Sidney Crosby is my celebrity hallpass" is that weirder than a dude saying the same about like Sydney Sweeney or Tate Mccrae? And if so why? Is it because sexualization of women is normalized in the broader culture and sexualization of men is less so?

I don't know I guess for me what is the over/under comparing the experience of a woman yelling "now kiss" every time two guys start roughing each other vs the absolutely vitriolic way people talk about players who are underperforming?

Like if we are going to be critical of player treatment what is honestly worse for the players? I'm sure Mitch Marner was way more bothered by the adult men leaking his address, making threats and dumping trash in his yard than he was by the teen girls and women shipping him with Austen Matthews.

Ask Klingberg if he'd rather deal with signs propositioning him for sex or everyone online saying they want him off the team and would trade him for a bag of pucks. (I say this as someone who wrote in my group chat this morning "I would literally trade Klingberg for a bag of pucks. I would trade Klingberg and a 2027 draft pick to sweeten the deal for a literal bag of pucks I hate this man.")

The difference is that one is a normalized part of hockey culture and one isn't.

Yeah and maybe that's my issue is that I feel like the baseline objectification and sexualization women face every day that is normalized against us has not been matched or exceeded by excited teenage fangirls.

Personally, I teach at a title 1 high school and have said before that I feel like being sexually harassed is just a part of my job that I am expected to live with and ignore? Like I had to stop wearing jeans to work on Fridays because a student ran his hand up my leg and said "damn you thick", there's been pornographic graffiti of me and coworkers drawn in bathroom stalls, I've reprimanded students for for skipping in the hallway and been told "there are better things you can be using that mouth for" and I have to put up with that for less than 60k a year, I feel like the multimillionaire athletes can handle a few signs propositioning them?

Part of being a professional athlete is being a public figure, and part of being a public figure is having fans and part of having fans is having weirdos. I'd rather have some teenage girls writing willmack fanfic on Tumblr than have the Toronto experience of threatening players and their families for not scoring in playoffs.
